@cricketfreak said:@sachin_nitrkl Hi sir , as you mentioned, anyone above 99 has a fair chance to get a convert , I am really looking forward to FMS , i have 99.38 , from some past information gathered , I learnt generally it's people with 99.60 who have very good chance , do you really have a rough idea how many candidates in your batch are ones with les than 99.50 ? I know it's a stupid question to ask, but given my preference for FMS , couldn't resist asking it , thanks
Focus on GDPI dude .. i cant collect that info for u unless i am doing a MR project on that.. i can say its a fair number.
@sachin_nitrkl @cricketfreak lolz...in case u dont knw bout it.. MR refers to marketing research.. :P

I Dont have a call from XL, So FMS is my best choice. I can explain to them my reasons for HR... But the point is that they may tell me the same as you said, that if I want to pursue HR, FMS is not the right choice. How should I convince them on this? Can I say that I believe HR specialization will have fewer students as compared to Fin. and Mktg, so it will have a better student-teacher ratio, so better learning opportunities as compared to other b-schools? I understand that u are not into HR, but still, Can you tell me about some alumni who is working in the HR field? and some companies which recruit for HR profiles?

@sachin_nitrkl Hey Sachin. After having skimmed through several PG threads it has come to my notice that even getting 99% isnt good enough to get you into a top college unless you have a spectacular set of extra curricular/co-curricular activities. I just have a few certificates in sports/athletics from my X and XII standard. I also co-hosted the annual cultural programme at my college in DU for which I do not have any certificate. Please guide me on the extracurricular activity certificates that I can get while working till GD/PI next year to improve my CV. Thanks again for the advice.
Does anyone know when is the short list for GD/PI going to be announced?
there is no clue about it on the FMS website.

Just to correct you,, " a spectacular set of extra curricular/co-curricular activities" doesnt help if you dont have good enough percentage to get a shortlist at the first place. And to convert it , i dont think they look for extracuriculars. I sat in a lot of interviews last year , and had extracurics bad , if not worse than yours. but i never felt i got rejected in any because of bad extra curics. What they definitely look for is a well informed person who knows about what is going around , has fair amount of soft skills and more importantly knows himself inside out.
It is a myth i would say from my personal experience that extra curics get u through. They definitely help u though to steer an interview in a particular direction , but nothing more than that.
Some colleges do give u some weightage if u were some national or state level player or if u were a kathak dancer , but lets face it , such people are less than 5% .
No one in an interview forcefully asks u why u dont have an extra curic ? they might just be interested in knowing what u do apart from studying , since they want to know u as a person. and for that saying watching movies or playing cricket is fine IMO.
But it would work against u a lot ,if u dont know what is going on in ur state or in the country , the major news and so on.
So my only suggestion is to make a sincere effort to read the newspaper daily and talk like a well informed person , and try to have an opinion on every issue. Also try to learn about ur industry and work /company more and more if u are a work-ex guy.

you can opt for certain certifications or try to gain knowledge in a particular field , if u are sure of what specialisation you want to opt for.
For eg if u wanna pursue Finance , it helps if u have a couple of certifications or atleast understand ET.
for marketing focussed guys u can may be read up and follow latest campaigns in the industry and how they help companies achieve what they want to.

They wont say FMS is not the right choice and so .. They might just want to know your motivation behind pursuing this field. So have a good answer for that.
never say that "I believe HR specialization will have fewer students as compared to Fin. and Mktg, so it will have a better student-teacher ratio, so better learning opportunities as compared to other b-schools?" .. it will backfire badly .. it kind of means quality gets hampered in a fin or marketing class just because student teacher ratio is high.
Safe answer would be to say : i just want to learn different aspects of business and will be in a better position to decide which specialisation to opt for in the second year once i have seen all the fields in the first year.
Though this answer might not sound so good if u are a highly experienced guy. Then they expect u to be mature enough to know what u want , having spent so much time in the industry.
