Batch of Interview -25th feb lucknow 1.30 pm batch
overall a very pleasent experience..the panelist told everyone in detail what they wanted us to do,,explained about GIM,the pro's & cons after joining gim.one of the things that i liked about them was their simplicity in telling that gim also has some negative thngs,,i mean they were not just telling us the good things about gim but also told each & every aspect of gim be it good or bad which ranged from various clubs,,to thousands of resarch journals,,the comrehensive data cloud that they have, marketing, finance, operations at gim,,,diversity of the people present, about the faculty,,everything......& how the increase in fees is justified!!
GD Topic -is india's democracy an assistance or a hindrance in its development
Experience -had a very nice gd,,the people in my batch were also gud,,everyone got a chance to speak,,i was the last one to give an introduction & most of the points were already told by the other people but somehow managed to give a thik thak introduction,,,entered in the gd after 2 or 3 minutes put my points there,,gave a very gud conclusion (jiski baad me tareef bhi kri panel ne in pi) so all in all a decent gd for me....but cud have entered the discussion earlier...(another point that the panel asked me in pi)
PI -this was the most collest & awesome pi till date fr me.....one was a very young professor maybe late 20's (let's call him Y)or early 30's,,an senior professor maybe in his 50's....(O)
Y-so u r a banker,an agriculture officer in a big nationalised bank..
me- no sir,i was,i resigned in december..
meanwhile "O" got a heart attack while listening to my answer and asked me why did i left the job,,started on the job security in the sarkari naukri,,even told that people join mba to work in a bank & u left it..
me-sir i wasn't satisfied with my job.."O" again luked puzzled...i explained to him that i would have liked to be a part of a major decision making process, explained hw i was a scale 1 officer,,had limited powers,,only work was to distribute loans to the farmers,,but also wanted to play a more bigger role in designing the rural credit being provided to farmers,,to generate awareness among the farmes how to utilise the credit being provided wth them...also explained that if i had an mba i wud have directly got a scale 3 job a headstart of atleast 8-9 years frm my present role...the panel seemed satisfied,,but i also cleared at the same time
that being an agriculturists & also done farming myself i wud be better off working at the grassroot level(money not being a problem )& helping our agriculture sector, again corelated with the idea of an mba..
boot "Y" & "O" seemed satisfied (atleast mujhe to aisa hi lg ra tha)
next question suddenly out of nowhere
O- who was Gobind ballabh pant?( i have studied frm pantnagar university named after him)
me-sir he was a freedom fighter,,,first chief minister of UP( forgot to add that he was also a bharat ratna recipient)
O- who was his son?
me-no idea sir, told honestly ,,actually he was also a political leader,,education minister & a very gud one.
O-who was udham singh?
me-sir he was also a freedom fighter,,then got confused with jim corbett & told no sir he was a hunter,,,all started laughing ,,then realized my foolishness & again said-no sir he was a freedom fighter this time i m sure,,,again the three of us laughed...
O-no no,,i meant to ask what was the famous thing that he took?
me--no sir,,no idea,,,actually i forgot that he was the Indian independence activist, who assassinated michael dyer in March 1940 an avenging of the jallianwala bagh massacre..
meanwhile Y-so u did BTech?
me-no sir,,Bsc in agriculture..
Y-Luked puzzled-maybe thinking in his mind-aisa bhi course hota hai kya??
u had a gpa of 7.8...how did u faired in ur exams?
me- told that i was among the top 15 in a batch of 140 people..
Y-have u heard of of joint liability groups..
me-told gave the answer,, Y seemed a little unconvinced....then explaied in detail.
Y-what is the procedure followed in giving loans to joint liability grops..
me-gave an honest answer that since i haven't disbursed a loan to any JLG i don't knew the procedure,,then he asked about kisan credit card...i explained everything in layman terms,,Y seemed convinced..
O-what are ur views on organic farming,,can the poor realy afford it.
me- gave a very basic defination of organic farming,,,explained that in india it's practically not possible to grow organic food for small farmers profitably,,,only the rich can afford,,& its a term which can be more associated with horticultural crops like fruits & vegetables & not with cereals.....both seemed convinced & impressed,,also told about the satus of organic food in d country..
Y- once again asked Why a btech in agriculture,, i again explained to him that its Bsc in agriculture....
Y & O-so wen did u decide to do a btech(ths tym i thought that they were hardore engineering fan))i again corrected them & this tym both the panelist started laughing & then Y told me to understand his emotions,he actually wanted to say Bsc in agriculture...
me-tols that eventually i wanted to join the army as my father was in the army ,,my brother is in the army, also being studied from an army public school but was unable to clear NDA,then told how my father motivated me to study agriculture using the proverb "jai jawaan jai kisan"
Y-again got stuck on my Bsc degree,,,sked me why did i had a gap after my graduation for 1 year,,i again explained to him sir that this was a 4 year course not a 3 year course,,no gap after graduation.,,again y started laughing.
Y- so what do u think about farmer's sucide-again explained that the gorvernment was at fault not the farmers,,the subsidies don't reach to them,,farmers r unaware & bhut sara gyann...both seemed convinced!!
O-What is this genetic enginnered crops?explain it to me.,..are there actually any??
me-answered giving the examples of bt cotton bt brinjal,,status..
O-where is bt cotton mostly grown has it helped in increasing production?
me--sir in gujrat bt cotton has been extensively grown,,while bt brinjal as been given the license to be grown in some states but it still is in experimental phase,,,,
also told that its early to consider an opinion whether it has increased production ,,gave them the example that since it has been grown no incidence of draught in the areas,,no incidence of pest & disease as a resut the traditional varities have also flourished,,also the area under traditional crop varities is much more than that of bt cotton & their production share is also more,,so it is still early to say whether growing bt cotton has helped us or not.......both seemed impressed by my counter reasoning this time)
O-so were u unhappy at any time when u were pursuing agriculture?
me-no,not at all..explained how it really changed my life,,told about my practical crop production-where in a group of eight we were given i hactare(10000m sqr.) of land & where we had to grow rice, toria & wheat for a full year & all the work from sowing to harvesting was done manualy,,how that course taught me that life actually is a bitch(ye word nhi use kiya waha)...& hamare kisaan bhaii 2 waqt ki apni aur hamari rotiyo k liye bhi kitnii mehnat krte hain) i have tremendous respect for farmers..
Y-do u kknw itc-e chaupal?
me-explained in a layman language..everything from the kiosks to real time information provided by it & hw was it a win win situation for both farmers & itc
O-what was your xat score-told,cat score-told,have u got a call from irma-told
O-so if u join politics do u aspire to be the next CM of up?
me- no sir ,i will never ever join politics,,i am a hardcore believer of ethics & how the indian political system is lacking in it..
O-thats why i am saying that our country need people like u to change this scenario-
me-once again told that i was better off working in a village helping & creating awareness among our farmers rather than joining politics in which i am not interested & how it wud be a waste of my studies & what i wanted to do actually,
O-ur views on our govt wheter helping the farmers or not?
me-once again gave my views which were eventually correct..
(earlier they had asked about my other calls)
O&Y-; u have a profile that is best suited for joining IRMA &IIM; A Abm,,we think irma is the best college for u..i culdnot deny that because if i had countered here i wud have made a fool of my myself as they were true,,i just said that sir i also believe that but i can also apply the management priciples that i learnt here in the rural scenario as i already have the basic understanding of rural society & the relevent work ex(i posted in a remote village in farrukhabad in up as an agriculture officer))
both then asked that if i wanted to ask someting i replied that most of the queries were answered by the seniors & then the young professor said-pagalguy,,,i just smiled,,,both of the also smiled & my interview was over..
Any other interesting thing -
the old professor ased my why didn;t i initiated the gd,,i told that i was listening to other peoples views & then i gradually enterd in the gd,,he told me not to be overcautious & praised me for my good points in the gd!
in the end both of them told me that we need more guys lyk u in our country,,u r clear what u want to do,,u have a sound knowledge of urself & agriculture, then they also told me to work for the betterment of farmers & the rural society in the future, here they added that thats why u shud spek more otherwise people jo sirf bolte h aur kcuh aata nahin overshadow people like u & that is happening with the country now.. they also told me to encourage more people to study agriculture & here i added that people even don't know that there is also a course lyk agriculture,,,the govt shud generate awareness about agriculture as a profession(also added that there shortage of agri graduates in our country & that none of us(agri graduate )is unemployed,we get better jobs then most of the sectors in terms of money as well as satisfaction......
ps-the word spoken by the panelists in the end made my day,,,,even if the call is not converted(my dismal perormance in xat),,they have given me so much confidence that i wud always be grateful to them...
also my interview was little less articulted than the way in which i have written..&also; i might have skipped 1,2 questions..
advice to other aspirants--be honest,be simple,be clear & everythng else wud be good..enjoy the show!!!
kudos GIM!
verdict-
converted
