XAT Percentile - 80.35 OA

10th - 84.7

12th - 84.4

Grads - 72.5 (B.TECH ELECT)

Work-Ex - 18 months

Batch of Interview - YMCA Mumbai, 25th, 8:30am

GD Topic - Indian growth story is over

Nobody had points at all. Random facts and figures of GDP etc etc only to show their knowledge rather than discuss things and reach to a conclusion. Total fish market. Some people were dominating too. Though, I enjoyed it. Was having a good laugh on myself and others for total lack of substance in the GD. Even the panelists looked disgusted. Basically, nothing good comes out of GD, usually. Seen this now in 2-3 GD sessions. :P

PI - Panelists themselves read thro my introduction and told me why are u looking for a change when it is one of the best core companies with sizable income

A: Gyaan. accountability, responsibility, decision making etc etc.

Q: Job profile?

A: Operation engg and other details

Q: How does an alternator work?

A: Confidently answered. Impressed with my fundamentals.

Q: Other calls?

A: Blah blah

Q: How will you pay such high fees?

A: Loans, savings

Q: Why do you think an MBA will give you an extra edge than being just an engineer?

A: Gyaan with examples from current job

Q: Do you know MS Excel?

A: Couldnt believe the question!!! I said Yes, of course. They nodded.

Q: What other things do you think you can implement in your plant to maximize operational efficiencies as a manager?

A: Gave them detailed set of changes required with reasons. Looked impressed again.

Q: Would you like to ask us something?

A: No. Thats it.

Any other interesting thing - I dont know if I should mention this here or not but since "Any interesting thing" column has been given, let me share with you.

When asked about final placements for the batch 2011-13 during the initial discussion with everyone by the panelists, they honestly replied that 44 still remain unplaced out of 240. Got to say thats a high number and lot of our faces drooped just there. But, got to give it to GIM for honestly coming out with figures before even the start of the GD/PI sessions. That was a pretty frank and straightforward reply which, I personally liked it. Not indicating anything to anyone with this post, just stating the fact which the panelists told us. Yet, 1 month still remains and they are hoping for the best. And so are we.

Tips: Just be chilled out. Dont be nervous at all. The panel is quite chilled out. No stress/grilling sessions. Smile as much as you can and crack a joke in your PI just so that even they dont start getting bored.

Hi all,

My GD/PI experience:

XAT Percentile - 82.62

10th - 78.6

12th - 76

Grads - 68(BTech)

Work-Ex - 36 months in IT

Batch of Interview - 25 Feb 8:30 am panel3, Brainstorm Consulting, Bengaluru

GD Topic - Is the Indian growth story over?

Experience - Overall it was a pleasant experience. The panel had a Marketing professor and a Finance professor.
My group had 11 members and two people were absent. The panelists explained us the positives of studying in GIM, the hi tech facilities available there, the thousands of books and research journals available in their library, diversity of people present there, the faculty and various clubs.

GD - The panelists told everyone what they wanted us to do. Everyone had to give introductory statement on the topic for 30sec. Then the discussion was open for all. GD was smooth, only once or twice it tended to become a fish market, but everyone got a chance to speak. The panel asked us to stop after 10 mins. and to conclude individually for 30sec. Then, we had to write an 200-250 words essay on the same topic in 5mins.

Please remember your GIM ID and XAT/CMAT ID as it has to be filled in the form.

PI - The panelists were same as that in GD. They were quite chilled out. There was no stressing/grilling.
My PI started with the q.
-tell us about yourself?
-strengths and weakness?
-then they asked why I want to do MBA after engineering?
-Why GIM?
-some questions were asked from my work ex. about my role and my job profile.

Thats it! My interview lasted for about 10mins .

Any other interesting thing - No ques. from GD. The panelists were same for both GD and PI. The person who was interviewed just before me was grilled on his GD comments and I was expecting the same with me.
So please remember whatever statements you make in the GD.

All The Best!

not at all happy with today's process....interviews were conducted very fast except the starting 2-3 candidates.I dnt know on what basis will dey evaluate?

my gd/pi experience

Batch of Interview - 26 Feb 8:30 am, kolkata

GD Topic - is mba necessary to succeed in the commercial world
?

Experience -The panel had a Operations professor and a Finance professor.
My group had 11 members and three people were absent. only a small conference room at the rooftop of a hotel.went there and was straight directed to sit in a chair behind a semi circular table with others sitting alongside.

GD - The panelists told everyone what they wanted us to do. Everyone had to give introductory statement on the topic for 1min. Then the discussion was open for all. everyone got a chance to speak.not a fish market, though I think we ran out of ideas at times. The panel asked us to stop after 15 mins. and to conclude individually for 30sec in the reverse manner. Then, we had to write an 200-250 words essay on the same topic in 5mins.

PI-same panelists and same place.was 2nd in the batch.so went after 10 min after the end of gd.

finance prof didnt ask a single question.it was only the operations prof in the questioning mode.

OP-thank u

my interview revolved only around 2 questions-why mba and what calls do u got.mera to ho gaya.

PI lasted for around 12 min...dont know what to make out of this.
sorry for such a long post.ATB to all puys and pirls
I had a very unique experience in my GDPI today. Lets say it was an 'out of the box' interview :D

Centre- Brainstorm Consulting, Bangalore
Time - 26th Feb 1:30

XAT - 79.58
Xth - 79.8
XIIth - 66.66
B.E (Mech) - 57
19 months of experience in IT + quite a lot of ex-curricular.

GD Topic - What is your realistic view/vision of industries in India in 2025/2026?

We were 10 in the GD. (4 girls, 6 guys) Everyone got around 5-10 seconds for an intro, in some cases even shorter. Then 5 minutes to discuss the topic. Luckily, it did not turn into a fish market. I was the third to speak, but it seemed like the GD was less than 5 minutes. Ended pretty soon. Then 5 minutes to summarize.

PI -2 panelists. For now, I will name them P1 and P2.
P2 - Tonse...
Me - Sir, my name is Supreet. Tonse is just the name of the native place.
P2 - Ah, ok....So, which all calls have you received?
Me - Told
P2 was noting down. P2 - So, in the scenario where you are selected for all, which would you choose?
Me - Sir, I am not being diplomatic. My first choice is GIM itself.
P2 looks at my acads.
P2 - Just 57 in BE. Very poor. Xth ok, XIIth bhi ok.. But so less in VTU? I am sorry but you are rejected.
P1 - Also, 79.58 in XAT.
P1 - In PUC, you have 400. This is out of?
Me - Sir, 600.
P1 - I see you have failed Engg. Maths, I as well as II.
Me - (sheepish)
P2 - That's very bad.
P1 - You have done badly in other subjects also. (Points out to my remaining backlogs. There were many.)
P2 - Very poor. How did you finish your B.E? (Looks at my XAT scorecard) Very less. only 58 in Quants? How will I teach you management? You will have to convince me.
Me - Sir, I have learnt my lessons. Working hard in my company now.
P2 - Are you even serious about this?
Me - Yes, Sir, I am serious about pursuing MBA.
P2 - What is your perception of life?
Me - Sir, as in?
P2 - In general yaar...
Me - Sir, we all have one life. Enjoy to the maximum, and work hard.
P1 - (laughs) We can see you have enjoyed during your B.E.
Me - (sheepish)
P2 - So, you will come to Goa and enjoy by the looks of it. (laughs)
P1 - What exactly is enjoying life? Drinking?
Me - Not necessarily Sir. Whatever you find happiness in..
P2 - What do you find happiness in?
Me - Sir, I am extremely passionate about football. So, when I play/watch the game, I enjoy.
P2 - So, tell me about yourself.
Me - I was born and bought up in Muscat, till 8th std..
P2 intervenes..
P2 - Muscat??
Me - Yes, Sir, till 8th Std. I moved to Mangalore. I have completed my engineering from XYZ, and I am presently working in ABC, a small IT firm in Mangalore. I am extremely passionate about football...
P2 - Tell me about your family.
Me - Told
P2 - What did your elder sister study?
Me -Told.
P1 - So, do you have a girlfriend?
Me - Sir, I was in a relation earlier.
P2 - When did you breakup?
Me - Sir, around March-April last year.
P2 - What was the reason for the breakup?
Me - Sir, I haven't yet deciphered it yet.
P2 - Huh?
P1 - I think he means to say he hasn't analysed the reason yet.
Me - I haven't been able to find a single absolute reason, sir.
P2 - So, why haven't you found another girlfriend yet?
Me - Sir, after that phase I was into CAT/XAT preparation.
P2 - Do you think girls are a distraction.
Me - Sir, to some extent.
P2 - Why haven't you been in a relation since?
Me - Sir, that's what, I got busy with exam preparations.
P1 - Is it because of the lack of opportunities?
Me - No Sir, there are plenty of opportunities actually.
(Both smile)
P2 has a look at my salary.
P2 - So, you earn this much (amount)?
Me - Yes, sir that's right.
P1 - You are handsome enough, earn a salary, then why lack of opportunities?
Me - Sir...
P2 intervenes.
P2 - See, even we don't have opportunities. But, you are saying there is no lack of opportunities.
Me - Sir, you are from Goa, so I think there should be plenty of opportunities.
(Both laugh)
P2 - So, do you drink?
Me - Yes, sir ocassionally .
P2 - What do you drink?
Me - The usual, sir. Beer, vodka...
P2 - Whiskey?
Me - Yes, sir.
P1 - How ocassionally?
Me - Sir, weekly or fortnightly..
P2 - So, you are coming to Goa for the drinks and the girls?? (Both laugh) Both are available in plenty in Goa.
Me - (sheepish)
P2 - So, tell me, why you want to come to GIM?
Me - Sir, I will prove to be a good manager.
(Both laugh, and I am like damn)
P2 - Prove? Everyone says that.
P1 - You won't be a manager there. Just a student.
Me - Yes, sir, I meant a good management student.
P2 - I am still not convinced. I will give you 1 minute time to convince me that you are a potential MBA.
Me - Sir, I may not have good acads. But, I have proved myself elsewhere. I was part of the management team of a revolutionary hybrid car project, where we used an autorickshaw engine and the hub motor of a yo-bike. I handled most management aspects, from financial to personal to parts procurement etc.
I was also event head for college fests, and I organized treasure hunt, with 25 volunteers under me.
Also, I was the chief editor of the college magazine, Sir.
P2 - Tell me some place where you cheated despite being a manager.
Me - I haven't really had that kind of situation sir.
P2 - Then you are not fit to be a manager.
Me - Sir, but I haven't yet encountered such a situation where I had to cheat.
P2 receives a call.
P1 - Have you manipulated anyone?
Me- Sir, as in convinced someone to get some work done?
P1 - No, cheated or manipulated?
Me - No Sir, not really.
P1 - You have lost your chance.
Me - Sir, could you give me a minute to recall.
P1- OK.
Me - (after 10 seconds) Sir, there was this one instance where we had quoted a wrong estimate for our project. Our actual budget was 60,000 Rs, but it eventually went up to 75,000 Rs. But, when we were going out for asking funds from potential sponsors, we quoted a figure of just 55,000 Rs.
P1 - Why did you quote the wrong amount?
Me - Sir, if we had quoted a huge amount, people would get skeptical about the project.
P1 - So, this is how you got the money?
Me - Sir, we also had some alumni in our college who gave us some money. And, we also put in a lot of effort and a lot of our money. In fact, at one stage we were at dire straits.
P1 - This is how you say you completed your project.
Me - Yes, sir. We did put a lot of effort and our own money into it.
P2 - So, have you read any management book in the past 1 or 2 weeks?
Me - No, sir. Just started reading a novel.
P2 laughs.
P2 - Novel, huh?You need to read management books, you know. How else will you be a good manager? Anyways, which novel?
Me - Sir, just started reading Rozabal Line.
P2 - What is it about?
Me - Just finished 20 pages, Sir. Not yet fully read it.
P2 - Do you read newspapers? Which one?
Me - Yes, Sir. The Hindu.
P2 - Tell me some fresh news from yesterday evening.
Me - Sir, the Finmeccanica controversy. Colonel Tyagi is found guilty.
P2 - Hmm...scams...
P2 - So, tell me what the others outside have been speaking about our interview process.
Me - Told.
P2 - Ok, thank you. Any questions, Sir?
P1 - No, that's it I guess.
Me - Thank You, Sir. ( I stand up)
P2 - So, what are they telling about us in Pagalguy?
Me - Sir, the usual. Read few yesterday's experiences. Like the same questions being asked. Why MBA and Why GIM and all of that.
P2 - But, we didn't ask that...
P1 - We were not there na, sir, yesterday.
P2 - Oh right right. Yesterday's candidates.
P2 - So, how was your interview?
Me - Sir, it was different.
P2 - Not good?
Me - Sir, it was a great experience, for sure.
(Both Laugh)
P2 - Hope to see you soon at GIM!
Me (leaving) Hopefully Sir! (I thank both the Sirs and leave)

I have to tell I may attend a thousand interviews, but I will never come across such an unique interview ever. I feel the panel was friendly, as well as truthfully blunt. They tried to put me in a bit of a corner, and gauged how well I responded to the situation. Well, that's what I think.

How do you guys rate my experience? Do I stand a chance with my poor grads?
I certainly hope so. Lots of hopes on GIM. Gave my best. Everything left to Almighty! :)

Thumbs up to GIM though!

Note - Bangalore candidates, you may get confused with the location. You can get down at Majestic, and then take a rick. Say Malleswaram Ground. Look around the place. It is on the first floor of a building. Not a very large board. There is a Shri Sagar Tiffins Hotel nearby, which is pretty famous!

Also, keep your GIM id, XAT id, and CMAT id handy.

ATB to the rest of the candidates!
@supreetkini ...2 good...simply awesome...

GD Topic: "FDI in retail good for India or not"

Moderators: Dr. Sunil Rai (Director, GIM) and one marketing faculty(Nirmalya Bandyopadhyay)

Quite obvious GD was a fish market as the topic was a cliched one.. Apart from the fact that that we were judged mostly on the introduction and conclusion part and only Mr. Rai was judging us.
[My name was 1st on the GD list but among the 12 students present I was the 2nd last to be called for PI]

Mr. Rai (R) only asked questions, the other one didn't ask anything.

R: You should be stressed as well as amazed as you were the first person to start the GD process and is being called so late.

Me: yes sir, I was thinking on the pattern on which we were called for PI.

R: If you could tell us what the pattern was, then we assure you that we won't ask you any further questions and would let u go.

Me: Sir, based on our GIM application no.? (I already concluded earlier that it wasnt on the basis of alphabetical order)

Both : No.

Me: I want to give one more shot sir.

R: okay, total 3 chances for you. one already exhausted 2 more left.

Me: Based on our XAT-CMAT score normalized on the same scale.

Both : No. last chance.

Me: Based on the work-ex., sir?

Both: No. Now we have you ask you questions..

R: Tell us about urself.

Me: Told.

R: What is success according to u.

Me: Gave some gyaan.

R: Started a discussion on whether should students go to kota for IIT/AIEEE prepn or not. He said students who think they are not capable shouldn't go to Kota. I differed on his views.

R: what do you think that Private companies are now playing a major role and Govt is not doing much.

Me: Told him that's not the case. Its the Govt who designs and frames the Policies to which the corporate companies adheres to. Told him about PPP model. Also told about Bihar which tops the Growth rate amongst major states and where there services sector that contributes more to the GDP and not private companies.

R: Asked about my CGPA, is that common over there or were you rank holder?

Me: Told.

Other prof: What other calls do you have?

Me: Told.

Other: Be truthful and tell us if you convert both, which one will you go for?

Me: Told would go for GIM.

R: Asked me about XAT %ile, CMAT score, CAT %ile.

Me: Told.

R: Thank you Abhishek and shook hands.

Me: Thank you sir.

P.S. : After I came out and was travelling in metro, I pondered over that pattern on which students were called and finally came up with a conclusion : We Engineers were called in the last.. [Before me were 3 techie and after me was a final year Mech. Engineering student]

There were 2 panels.. In my panel every1 was present but one. In the other panel too going by the numbers i think barring one or two every1 was present.
Done with my GD-PI...
1.30 pm slot , Kolkata....akash deep hotel.

1stly we were addressed by an alumni mr.chopra...he was from 2005 pass out batch.we had a Q/A session with him.
13 ppl turned up for this slot. Only 1 female candidate ,me
Then we had out gd session: topic- realistic view of the vision of indian industry in 2025.
It was was an Okay Okay session. 1stly- we gave brief introduction f out thot process on the topics, then 10mins discussion, again 1 min conclusions for each.
Then was the write-up part..only 5mis were given. on the very GD topic.

Then the PI s started. I was the 10th person.
The gentlemen were very nice . We had general discussion sort of instead of just q/a session.
One of them was an Operations professor, we discussed abt my interest in Operations as specialization.
They asked me of my other calls. I was totally honest with them.
Then they asked, since i work for tcs past 3.5 years how comfortable would I be returining to the same company, ie.sabbatical s and all were discussed.
that was prettym much it....
ps: I was happy to inform them that the senrs...are doing a fantastic job...ppl like avinash jha,, rishab sarda, priyank gujrani, swambar majumder etc

Overall pretty good experience.
Really hoping to convert this one.

I had a very unique experience in my GDPI today. Lets say it was an 'out of the box' interview Centre- Brainstorm Consulting, BangaloreTime - 26th Feb 1:30XAT - 79.58Xth - 79.8XIIth - 66.66B.E (Mech) - 5719 months of experience in IT + quite a lot of ex-curricular.GD Topic - What is your realistic view/vision of industries in India in 2025/2026?We were 10 in the GD. Then 5 minutes to summarize.PI -2 panelists. For now, I will name them P1 and P2.P2 - Tonse...Me - Sir, my name is Supreet. Tonse is just the name of the native place.P2 - Ah, ok....So, which all calls have you received?Me - ToldP2 was noting down. P2 - So, in the scenario where you are selected for all, which would you choose?Me - Sir, I am not being diplomatic. My first choice is GIM itself.P2 looks at my acads.P2 - Just 57 in BE. Very poor. Xth ok, XIIth bhi ok.. But so less in VTU? I am sorry but you are rejected.P1 - Also, 79.58 in XAT.P1 - In PUC, you have 400. This is out of?Me - Sir, 600.P1 - I see you have failed Engg. Maths, I as well as II.Me - (sheepish)P2 - That's very bad.P1 - You have done badly in other subjects also. (Points out to my remaining backlogs. There were many.)P2 - Very poor. How did you finish your B.E? (Looks at my XAT scorecard) Very less. only 58 in Quants? How will I teach you management? You will have to convince me.Me - Sir, I have learnt my lessons. Working hard in my company now.P2 - Are you even serious about this?Me - Yes, Sir, I am serious about pursuing MBA.P2 - What is your perception of life?Me - Sir, as in?P2 - In general yaar...Me - Sir, we all have one life. Enjoy to the maximum, and work hard.P1 - (laughs) We can see you have enjoyed during your B.E.Me - (sheepish)P2 - So, you will come to Goa and enjoy by the looks of it. (laughs)P2 - So, tell me about yourself.Me - I was born and bought up in Muscat, till 8th std..P2 intervenes..P2 - Muscat??Me - Yes, Sir, till 8th Std. I moved to Mangalore. I have completed my engineering from XYZ, and I am presently working in ABC, a small IT firm in Mangalore. I am extremely passionate about football...P2 - Tell me about your family.Me - ToldP2 - What did your elder sister study?Me -Told.P1 - So, do you have a girlfriend? Me - Sir, I was in a relation earlier.P2 - When did you breakup?Me - Sir, around March-April last year.P2 - What was the reason for the breakup?Me - Sir, I haven't yet deciphered it yet.P2 - Huh?P1 - I think he means to say he hasn't analysed the reason yet.Me - I haven't been able to find a single absolute reason, sir.P2 - So, why haven't you found another girlfriend yet?Me - Sir, after that phase I was into CAT/XAT preparation.P2 - Do you think girls are a distraction.Me - Sir, to some extent.P2 - Why haven't you been in a relation since?Me - Sir, that's what, I got busy with exam preparations.P1 - Is it because of the lack of opportunities?Me - No Sir, there are plenty of opportunities actually. (Both smile) P2 has a look at my salary.P2 - So, you earn this much (amount)?Me - Yes, sir that's right.P1 - You are handsome enough, earn a salary, then why lack of opportunities?Me - Sir...P2 intervenes.P2 - See, even we don't have opportunities. But, you are saying there is no lack of opportunities.Me - Sir, you are from Goa, so I think there should be plenty of opportunities. (Both laugh)P2 - So, do you drink?Me - Yes, sir ocassionally .P2 - What do you drink?Me - The usual, sir. Beer, vodka...P2 - Whiskey?Me - Yes, sir.P1 - How ocassionally?Me - Sir, weekly or fortnightly..P2 - So, you are coming to Goa for the drinks and the girls?? (Both laugh) Both are available in plenty in Goa. Me - (sheepish) P2 - So, tell me, why you want to come to GIM? Me - Sir, I will prove to be a good manager.(Both laugh, and I am like damn) P2 - Prove? Everyone says that.P1 - You won't be a manager there. Just a student.Me - Yes, sir, I meant a good management student.P2 - I am still not convinced. I will give you 1 minute time to convince me that you are a potential MBA.Me - Sir, I may not have good acads. But, I have proved myself elsewhere. I was part of the management team of a revolutionary hybrid car project, where we used an autorickshaw engine and the hub motor of a yo-bike. I handled most management aspects, from financial to personal to parts procurement etc. I was also event head for college fests, and I organized treasure hunt, with 25 volunteers under me.Also, I was the chief editor of the college magazine, Sir.P2 - Tell me some place where you cheated despite being a manager. Me - I haven't really had that kind of situation sir.P2 - Then you are not fit to be a manager.Me - Sir, but I haven't yet encountered such a situation where I had to cheat.P2 receives a call.P1 - Have you manipulated anyone? Me- Sir, as in convinced someone to get some work done?P1 - No, cheated or manipulated?Me - No Sir, not really.P1 - You have lost your chance. Me - Sir, could you give me a minute to recall.P1- OK.Me - (after 10 seconds) Sir, there was this one instance where we had quoted a wrong estimate for our project. Our actual budget was 60,000 Rs, but it eventually went up to 75,000 Rs. But, when we were going out for asking funds from potential sponsors, we quoted a figure of just 55,000 Rs.P1 - Why did you quote the wrong amount?Me - Sir, if we had quoted a huge amount, people would get skeptical about the project.P1 - So, this is how you got the money?Me - Sir, we also had some alumni in our college who gave us some money. And, we also put in a lot of effort and a lot of our money. In fact, at one stage we were at dire straits.P1 - This is how you say you completed your project.Me - Yes, sir. We did put a lot of effort and our own money into it.P2 - So, have you read any management book in the past 1 or 2 weeks?Me - No, sir. Just started reading a novel.P2 laughs. P2 - Novel, huh?You need to read management books, you know. How else will you be a good manager? Anyways, which novel?Me - Sir, just started reading Rozabal Line.P2 - What is it about?Me - Just finished 20 pages, Sir. Not yet fully read it.P2 - Do you read newspapers? Which one?Me - Yes, Sir. The Hindu.P2 - Tell me some fresh news from yesterday evening.Me - Sir, the Finmeccanica controversy. Colonel Tyagi is found guilty.P2 - Hmm...scams...P2 - So, tell me what the others outside have been speaking about our interview process.Me - Told.P2 - Ok, thank you. Any questions, Sir?P1 - No, that's it I guess.Me - Thank You, Sir. ( I stand up)P2 - So, what are they telling about us in Pagalguy?Me - Sir, the usual. Read few yesterday's experiences. Like the same questions being asked. Why MBA and Why GIM and all of that.P2 - But, we didn't ask that...P1 - We were not there na, sir, yesterday.P2 - Oh right right. Yesterday's candidates.P2 - So, how was your interview?Me - Sir, it was different.P2 - Not good? Me - Sir, it was a great experience, for sure.(Both Laugh)P2 - Hope to see you soon at GIM! Me (leaving) Hopefully Sir! (I thank both the Sirs and leave)I have to tell I may attend a thousand interviews, but I will never come across such an unique interview ever. Also, keep your GIM id, XAT id, and CMAT id handy.ATB to the rest of the candidates!
Awesome! All the best dude :)

Apart from the fact that that we were judged mostly on the introduction and conclusion part and only Mr. Rai was judging us.[My name was 1st on the GD list but among the 12 students present I was the 2nd last to be called for PI]Mr. Rai (R) only asked questions, the other one didn't ask anything.R: You should be stressed as well as amazed as you were the first person to start the GD process and is being called so late

-----------------------snipped---------------------------------------------------

Forgot to mention that at the end I did mention pagalguy and my mentor here Mr. @avinashkrjha and before I uttered his name the other professor intervened and told must be that guy 'Avinash Kumar Jha' with a smile on his face.. πŸ˜ƒ :)
