[2014-15] Ask ISB Hyderabad Admissions Director: The Official thread for PGP Admissions

@cocsy

Sir,

I have a doubt regarding the documentation required for income proof of parents. The ISB application portal says -

If your parent does not earn anything and is currently a "Home maker", you may declare the same on a sheet of paper, the time when they stopped working, their current age and also that they are not earning anything ,including the reasons for the same, scan the same in PDF and upload

However, I have also an affidavit and income-proof certificate from the mayor of the city certifying that my father no longer earns anything owing to old age (71 years) and health issues. Should I also upload the pdf scan copies of these documents in addition to the self-declaration in the Upload Documents section of the application portal?

Yes, please upload both documents. For any further clarifications please call or email ISB's app help team. 040-2318-7472 or app help @ isb . edu (no spaces)

Dear sir,

I am a 2014-2015 PGP aspirant. My details are given below

Professional Experience = 9 years (5.5 years international - onsite deputation)

GMAT = 700 (2011) and 690 (2013)
Two awards for professional excellance at workplace.

No significant extra curricular achievement other than holding an Amateur radio license in the US

Please do a quick evaluation of my profile and let me know where I need to pay that extra attention to get an interview call. Is 9 years too old for the PGP batch

Also I would like to know whether there are overseas placement happening with current / previous batches of the PGP program.

Thanks for your help.

9 years wkex is a good time to contemplate an MBA as you would have significant self-awareness & workplace learnings by now. We look at the quality of your takeaways and the depth of your interests - the number of interests is therefore not of relevance but the quality and how involved you are with your interests is. A unidimensional personality is usually not indicative of an engaged individual - which is a key leadership attribute.

International roles are also offered by employers who recruit on campus. You may want to review our placement reports to get a better sense.

I encourage you to call us at our admissions number to discuss how to compose a strong application and to understand how it will help with your career interests.

Hello,

Among the ISB students of the present batch, is there any other modes of communication except chat and e-mail? (For example the recent trend of social intranet portals where students can post/share their knowledge)

Thanks,

@Kankana_c

You may want to check on facebook, other social media for groups run by current students. Each will have its own set of rules regarding who they include as members, what their interests are etc. If you would like to connect with a current student you can contact our admissions team and we shall try to arrange.

If you are referring to other ways in which students connect among 'themselves' then there is a whole range of in person forums both structured and unstructured where students interact among themselves.

Hi @ISB.Admissions ,

If in the same job, I have served at two different locations in the same role with same responsibilities, how do I include it in Employment details? It doesn't make sense to make two entries because I'll be repeating the same job descriptions and if I make one entry, what location do I mention (the most recent one?) ?
Thanks

Sir,
My question is specifically related to the awards column in the application. Can I put the awards that I got in school and in my job?

Sir,

Is it mandatory to submit the original certificates of all achievements mentioned in the Awards Section, while uploading documents after getting a interview shortlist? Should I exclude an achievement if I am unable to produce a certificate for the same at the time of interview?

Hello Sir,

I have been working with a new venture for past one year. I intend to apply in R1 with a need-based tuition-waiver. However, as is the case with any new venture, the company is running cash-tight. Thus, my salary has been slightly inconsistent for past few months and that too from the founder's personal account as the company registration is underway. So, I wanted to know that is producing latest salary slip a mandatory condition for getting accepted or the Income-tax return could suffice?

Further, what document can I produce as the proof of income for my parents? Will Income-tax return suffice in their case too?

Thanks.

Hi

Can anyone tell me how much time does it take on ISB pgp application form to change the Evaluator status from "Link forwarded to Evaluatior" to "Recieved"?

My evaluator notified me yesterday noon that he has forwarded the evaluation but I am still not able to see it on my application? Do i need to ask him to check if something went wrong?

Please help.Thanks in advance.

Hello Sir,

I am a reapplicant this year. I have applied twice in the past. My question is whether the adcom will have both my past applications along with my current one during the time of evaluation or will it only have current application and the latest past application or only the current application.

The reason I ask this question is so that in case the adcom does have all my applications, then I don't have to repeat some of the information from past applications. For instance, in the past reapplicant essay, I would have talked about my profile changes between the first application and that one. In this year's reapplicant essay, I am only planning to detail the changes between my past reapplicant essay and this reapplicant essay.

Kindly let me know how I am supposed to approach this year's reapplicant essay.

If the two locations provide us with a different perspective on you as a candidate - eg., nature of challenges you dealt with - then by all means feel free to create two entries. Or you can note the locations under the job details/in your essays.

We do not require certificates for awards and achievements. Our primary interest in your awards and achievements is to understand what these mean to you - which is assessed through your application and especially at the interview.

Please call our admissions advisors to discuss. This is a confidential discussion and meant to assist you in making a strong application.

The admissions review team may refer to your previous applications.

Hi,
I could not help but notice that there seem to be a lot of consultancies in the market who advice and aid ISB applicants in presenting their essays the way the ISB adcom wishes to see them. Few of the consultancies claim to have ex-ISB alumni too in their ranks. Almost all of them advice a generic set of guidelines, which should be followed to ensure 'success'. And almost all of them boast of a good success rate as well, according to their websites! This leads me to ask, is ISB becoming too predictable with its admissions? How do you spot whether an essay is self written or 'tailored' by a consultancy?
Regards,
Murty.

I have already submitted my application around mid of July 2013 and for some project work I would be required to travel abroad around first or second week of October for around 2 months. I want to avoid skype interviews if shorlisted and prefer to have a face to face interview.

When I called up the admissions team to schedule my interview before first week of October, if shorlisted, then I was told to contact once I receive an Intreview shortlist mail from ISB. Just consider that if I receive the shorlist mail for the Interview on or after first week of October then how will I be able to prepone it.

Can't it be possible that the admissions team can accept the time period even before I am shorlisted and if shorlisted then they can schedule my Interview accordingly. Since I had already submitted my application in Mid of July so I feel that the application might have already got reviewed or may be reviewed by September 15th. Please suggest as to what shoud I do

Like with any other business relationship, we encourage you to conduct your due diligence with respect to consultants you seek help from. However, we do not endorse any. As regards the application process, it is designed to identify the strongest MBA candidates with an ISB-fit. There is no consideration given to predictability or lack thereof :) We would be only too glad if students understand the MBA admissions process better as there is a lot of self-learning and self-awareness in going through the application process.

If you find the application or process unclear or would like guidance on how to make a strong application, you are most welcome to call ISB's PGP admissions team. We are glad to clarify.

Dear Sir,

if one does get an interview call, it is approximately how many days before the interview date?
I see the interview dates from Sep -3 Nov. Are the calls given phase wise,as per the interview location?
