I'm an ISB aspirant. I've a work-ex of 2 yr & 5 months, in a PSU. My grads major was Electrical Engineering an my work-ex is core sector ( designing of industrial equipments). Throughout my acads I've been having 88.2%, 80% & 80.8% in X, XII & Engg respectively. But my GMAT score is 490. Though ISB doesn't mention any score cut-off, can you suggest me if I can opt for applying ISB R2-2013 and if there is any chance for such a combination of acads, work-ex & Gmat score ? Kindly let me know such that I can submit my application.
Thanks & Regards
We do not have any cut off in GMAT scores. However, historically we have not admitted anyone in the class who had GMAT below 600. In a pool of very strong candidates it may be quite a task to use your essays & application to stand out as a strong candidate without a good GMAT score. You may want to look at how you could increase your GMAT as you seem to have an interesting background and would have good insights to add to an MBA classroom. Please feel free to call us in case you would like to discuss more.
In an accelerated 1 year MBA i have been told by my friend studying at SOIL that dedicated 1 to 1 mentoring is something that is very effective. Does ISB also provide such industry mentors? if so what is the total number of contact hours a student has to spend with such a mentor?
I have an experience of 3 years 7 months in IT and Telecom sector (first 2 years in IT services and then afterwards in Core telecom as software engineer). With a decent GMAT score and 77%, 80%, 70% in 10th, 12th, btech, how would ISB rate my profile as I have heard IT doesn't hold much weight-age.
The learning model at ISB infuses team based learning through various individual case studies. The knowledge is gained by an individual through faculty and peers who bring with them their diverse experiences.
Among other approaches, the program includes numerous opportunities to network and interact with business leaders in multiple industries and multiple roles. This includes ISB alumni who provide a great perspective as they understand both what it is to be in the program and how to relate your current learning to fit work related needs. One of the key learning expectations of a program such as ISB is that the student learns to initiate, develop and maintain multiple professional relationships to suit their career and professional needs.
All industry, govt, NGO etc experiences are very valid experiences. We are interested in a candidate's takeaways from such professional and personal experiences. Strong candidates typically are very clear in what they seek from an MBA, have drive to apply themselves and can use essays, the application & interview to demonstrate their focus and convince us of their desire to work towards their goals. I encourage you to call our admissions advisors for tips on how to create a strong application.

It is not possible to comment on selection without reviewing a completed application. Please note that ISB's selection process looks holistically at your takeaways, learnings and clarity of purpose in addition to test scores and academic credentials to gauge your leadership potential, academic capacity and well-balanced personal attributes.
I would recommend you call our admissions team to discuss how to create a strong application by highlighting your personal and professional strengths. You may also like to review our blog & youtube channel for tips:
Dear Adcom, Does the merit scholarship is based on the entire admission process by collating quantitative numbers across various sections, interview etc? Or the merit scholarship decision is a separate decision based on factors other than the admission shortlisting?

Merit scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of candidates' strengths in leadership potential, academic capacity and balance of personal attributes/achievements. These attributes are assessed during the application & interview process. You may like to consult information on the various scholarships at following link:
Each year the ISB awards several scholarships, in the form of fee remission, to outstanding candidates. These scholarships vary in amounts and include some full scholarships. Scholarships are both need and merit based. Recipients are selected on the basis of exceptional academic and professional...
I have a question pertaining merit based scholarship- if a wait listed candidate gets through then is he considered for the merit scholarship or is he out of the running?
If ISB follows a one school two campus formula why is this thread called "[2014-15] Ask ISB Hyderabad Admissions Director: The Official thread for PGP Admissions" and not just "[2014-15] Ask ISB Admissions Director: The Official thread for PGP Admissions"?

Good catch. π That's a question to PagalGuy's web-content team as on their site they control the nomenclature of the threads.
I have applied for the round 2 of admission to the ISB .I have given the interview location as Delhi .Interview dates for Delhi are 9-13th January. Because of some critical project work I will have to go abroad for 1-2 months .The tentative dates of my departure are either 5th Jan or 12th Jan.If I will have to leave on 5th Jan then I will have to miss the interview with a broken heart (if I am called for the same) .But if I will have to leave on 12th Jan then there are some chances of me being in a position to attend the interview if I am shortlisted. This can happen only if I am called for the interview on 9th or 10th January. Can ISB help me in this regard?

What is key attributes you look for moving the candidate to the round 2 in ylp application?
Will there be an extensive filtration at round 1?
Thanks in advance.
Similar to PGP candidates, those applying for YLP are assessed holistically for:
- Leadership Potential
- Academic Capacity &
- Personal Attributes
that indicate balanced, driven, engaged and well-rounded individuals. As most YLP candidates do not have professional work experience, we shall look at their educational, co-curricular, internship & other similar situations to understand their takeaways and learnings from their various experiences.
Only those demonstrating the above attributes in ample measure are selected to proceed to round 2. Our process is not a rejection process and all candidates who can present a strong application will be selected for later stages. Please feel free to call our admissions advisors to discuss how to create a strong application in each stage.
