[2023] Which B-Schools should you apply to?

@sandeep.crazy said:

HI seniors/friends,

I am an aspirant of CAT 2012... Here goes my acad details
X -- 86.5....................est b-schools in India including IIMs where i can get a quality specialisation and can provide me a nice platform..
I have heard about NITTIE... Please provide me names of any other colleges and entrance exams...

1. Best B-Schools known for Operations are : NITIE, SPJAIN, IIT-Bombay. Among IIM's , IIM-B would be the best option for Operations as far as I know.

2. You should not face any problems in the interviews as long as you are able to justify your passion for Operations Field.

3. NITIE and IIT-Bombay is through CAT. SPJAIN is through CAT/XAT/GMAT.

4. All the Best.. !!

HI seniors/friends,

I am an aspirant of CAT 2012... Here goes my acad details
X -- 86.5 % (State board)
XII -- 95.1% (State board)
Graduation -- 7.56 (CGPA) ( Mechanical ) ( S.V. University)
Work Exp -- 13 months till date in a reputed IT company..
My dream is to study in one of the top MBA colleges in INDIA not necessarily IIMs.. and i am striving hard for it ...
Last time i got 91.6% in CAT and i got calls from all six new IIMs and Indore (being a OBC canditate) without any preparation..
Regarding my career, i want to work in the field which really relates to my graduation i.e Mechanical Engineering..
But as i have already started my career in IT , would i be facing any troubles facing the interview panel, because this is my greatest concern..
I am interested in supply chain management, operations.. Please provide me with the information about the best b-schools in India including IIMs where i can get a quality specialisation and can provide me a nice platform..
I have heard about NITTIE... Please provide me names of any other colleges and entrance exams...
Hii.. As far as your academics are concerned they are more than decent and they can fetch you some very good calls.
If you are REALLY interested for a field related to mechanical engineering, NITIE is surely a good choice. Apart from it IIT B is great in operations.
Among IIMs B is really good in operations. But for all these you have work really hard and get >98 % ile.

But what I want to say is think deeply about a career you want to choose because this normally changes once when enters into a b school especially when you have not worked in mechanical sector.

Regarding the interviews don't worry as of now. Just bell the cat first and these small things can be handled easily.

Couldn't find the relevant thread to post this question. Sorry if I am off-topic. The search functionality is also under maintenance.

1) What is the exact time when CAT registration starts? I am asking this so that I can confirm the most suitable batch for me.

2) Does it matter in any terms if I apply for more than one IIMs while registering for CAT? When is the actual application fee processed?

3) What all documents should I be ready with while filling the online form? I have read the registration guide but still wanted to confirm.

Thanks:)

hellos @[316381:visionIIM-ACL] and avinash Jha:

Hi , well have already asked bt still wanna clarify my doubts :
1.(a) My profile goes 10th : 85%(ICSE) , 12th : 81%(ICSE) , Btech CG 7.71(NIT Warangal).
(b) Shall be having 35 months of work experience in DEC 2012, 27 months in as aluminium smelter and after that in an engineering services firm in aerospace industry
(c) Have a fairly decent extra curriculars.
Is my profile good enough for the top notch IIM's?
2. Which all colleges should I apply for apart from IIM's ?
3. Havent taken AIMCAT'S of T.I.M.E as yet , have just taken testfunda material including the test series , have my previous TIME material and the Arun Sharma's.. Should I take the AIMCAT'S asap or the mocks of testfunda are enough ?
4. And have started studying seriously since May last week..2-3 hours ..is this enough or should I increase the number of hours..??
5. The verbal portion is a bit weak as compared to the Quant DI side..I want to know what is best strategy for RC's because my correct percentage is not going up in RC's..

Thanks in advance

1. Profile is decent enough to fetch a call from the Top Notch IIM if you score good in CAT.

2. That depends on you, your expectation level from the B-School and of course your performance in the mocks. But i would suggest you to apply to few colleges for sure: IIFT, NMIMS, IIT B/D/Kgp , MDI, SPJAIN, XLRI, XIMB.

3. You should take at least one of AIMCAT's or CL's mock because these 2 mocks are taken by a good number of students in India. It is in that situation only that you get to know your level.

4. 3 Hours is good enough if you use it efficiently everyday. Though, you can try to increase it as the D-Day is approaching.

5. For RC's, try to practise as much as possible and keep reading. Read any damn thing. Be it articles, newspapers, magazines, nobles, etc anything..

6. All the Best... !!

I have got

79% 10th
82% 12th
73% Graduation(B.tech)

15 months of experience in IT sector.

What should be the least targeted score below which it is impossible to get a call from good college..

it depends upon your definition of good college... if you are talking about IIM's even score of 98 sometimes is not enough to get a call..... so try to maximize your efforts and scores... and atleast don't think about things like least targeted score right now... ATB...

@[370697:avinashkrjha] i was under the impression that one should look towards xlri primarily if one wants to build a career in hr

XLRI is renowned for HR Course. But that doesn't mean BM Course is not worth. Apart from that, there are other colleges through XAT which are worth joining like SPJAIN, XIMB.. !!

@[370697:avinashkrjha] alright, will prepare for XAT also!

1. XAT is held on 1st Sunday of January every year. The same is expected this time as well.

2. Results of XAT are declared by the end of January.

3. Admission forms can be purchased/applied to individual colleges either before or after XAT exam depending upon the deadline of individual college. For few it is before XAT. e.g XLRI, XIMB, GIM. FOr few it is after XAT. e.g IMT. And for few it is even after XAT Results. e.g IFMR, LIBA. Stay tuned to this thread for all updates. All the Best.. !!
