Hi,I may be asking at wrong place or it may sound a very silly question, but I dont understand one thing. Why we have to apply to colleges even before the CAT result is out? Wouldn't it be better if people get an option of applying after they know their score. I've given CAT this year but I am not very sure about the %tile. I dont consider this as fair practice by colleges. All the MBA gurus here, please point me if I am missing anything in the process or Is is it another money pulling business?ThanksSaurabh
Profile > CAT Score. Increasingly so :)
Thats the funda and hence the process... Both Companies and Colleges are more profile driven now than cat score driven.
Essentially speaking, if you have a stellar profile, your chances are way better so basically good colleges want to capture you before someone else does...hence the play.
It is absolute fair practice on behalf of colleges because companies like good/different profiles. and since all of it this is market demand driven so it makes sense for colleges.
Is this process fair for studnet with not good enough profiles? No. But then there are other colleges which don't use the same yard stick...

but sir, what is the funda behind IMT's policy?
last date - 10 Dec 12. Then they will extend. Then they will again extend after CAT Results. Is it not a money minting policy?
@poker2 has IMT extended its deadline before?? or u jus sayin?? jus askin curious 2 know. i want 2 apply. but if its after results will b more than happy 2 apply..:)

Going by trends, IMT has been extending last dates in the past few years.
Most likely, the trend is expected to continue this year as well.
@avinashkrjha dude cn u tell me whether the extension of deadline will happen b4 d actual deadlin which in dis case in dec 10?? afterall its matter of 1750 buddy..

Not very sure, but I would suggest you to apply on 10th Dec only.
There could be a chance of extension before 10th Dec also.

last 2 years it has accepted more applications but then I dont think risking it would be the right way to go about it.
and about money minting - isnt that why you are going to b-school too? ;)
and why does ISB charge 20+ lacs for a one year residential course or why IIM-A/B/C charge 15+ lacs although they are government funded?
we don't know answer to such bafflingly simple yet complex questions...:)
most of us are kids who want a better life. we get it via these institutes who are few and far in between. so the option is all yours.
PS: I have no idea about such policy. I am, like everyone will tell you, logically conjecturing.
@saurabh1938 I'm not supporting this system of applying before results are announced. But then there is also another explanation to institutes having the application deadlines before results. To get the cream, or candidates who PREFER/CHOOSE to study at that institute irrespective of an exam score!!
Like DEVILISHANGEL mentioned, organizations want the candidates with profiles that suit their requirements. Similarly institutes want those candidates who consider applying to study there as first choice. Once results are announced, the applications coming in will only be the lot who have lost confidence, have got unexpectedly high/low scores and hence considering to apply, candidates who have applied just because they cleared the cut off and hence will be cribbing more about the institute if they don't get what they want (not that people are not cribbing now!!).
The deadline extension happens when they don't have a good candidate pool to choose from. Say X institute gives GDPI calls in the ratio of 1:10. Assuming they have 100 seats, they should be calling 1000 students. But then they have to consider drop-outs and so they have the call ratio as 1:12 or something like that. Now to give call to 1200 students they would need to have say 1500 applications (again assuming 300 would not meet the CAT score criteria). Now when they don't get this 1500 applications they extend the deadlines!!
Once again, not trying to justify this application process before results are announced, but then a logical and objective thinking of what might be the possible reasons for such a system.
Lastly if this system needs to change there should be a check by the controlling body, which in this case is AICTE or MHRD, and that unfortunately won't happen because there is lots at stake for all the private institutes and so they'll definitely lobby against it!!
Xth : 74%XIIth : 73%B.Tech : 66%CAT : attempted 15+15=30 questions (with 95% accuracy)Can anyone tell me my approx CAT %ile and also to which institutes I shud apply ??Thankx,
Going by trends of last year, you may expect 85+Apply toIMTNIRMAFORELBSUBSFMS-BHURest options can be explored after CAT Results.Through XAT --> XL, XIMB, GIMThrough SNAP --> SIBM, SCMHRDAll the Best..

Sir you suggested the above institues. I have a doubt : I thought of applying to the following institutes. But you din suggest any of the following.
Does this means that these institutes are not better than those u suggested or they have a higher cutoffs.
Which is the right reason ?
