[2023] Which B-Schools should you apply to?

@anant_nh said:
@Abir1103 -> others have said that i can expect around 95 , but no one has said 99.9 percentile .... even if normalisation works in favor of me then also 99.9 is too far ....!!!
Others are right, expecting 99.99%ile with a raw score of 99 is expecting too much, leave all those suggestions behind focus on applying to colleges with cut-offs less than 95%ile...
For now only FMS and NITIE don't come in your list...i hope your confusion is cleared now.

@addaa Dude. I wrote it 3 years back in 2009. The first online version of CAT. I don't remember how many questions I attempted!! Plus the format was also different. We had 3 sections VA, QA & DI. 😃 My percentile was 94.34
@ajaygovindg

@ansh12345 ya thanx
@bhargavsg If you think you can crack it with good percentile,it is ok.

I thought 1st online version of CAT was in 2009 .

[FORE at ninety-four?? 94 was/is wonderful man ]

@jitrana Sorry, the CAT I wrote was 2009 i.e. 3 years back. I took admission in 2010. :)

Cut off for our batch at FORE was 91.33!!

Lots have changed since then, for almost all B-schools in the country. So no point in comparing, plus I don't remember! :)
@ajaygovindg Hi! Is Goa Institute of Management worth applying to? Goa, being a non-industrial location. Will it serve well in the future w.r.t. getting placements compared to B-schools present in Industrial locations like Mumbai/Delhi?
could somebody please clarify the sectional cut offs for ximb?
@Jahid89 Goa Institute of Management or GIM is one the well known institutes in the country with a very good history and good alumni base. It definitely is in the top 40 B-schools in the country. Placements has never been a problem, and companies don't mind going there because quality of students recruited from there has always been good.

You can get further details/facts from @avinashkrjha :)
@harrypotter24 Check this http://www.pagalguy.com/forums/xat-snap-iift-and-others/2013-2015-ximb-admission-t-85606/p-3602673/r-3754687
@vivaciousmani The number of candidates who apply is also a very crucial deciding factor in cutoff's for various institutes. AFAIK, the perception about ISM Dhanbad is not that great maybe considering the location (main factor I believe), placements, only engineers are considered or any other factors. I don't know much, and it is just my assumption.

Again, I was going through their website and could not find information about the courses/papers/electives offered in MBA. So maybe going by the name, the general perception is that the course is niche and caters to specific industries only. Again no offence meant to anyone or the institute. Just trying to deduce some reasons as to why the perception is not good, because like you mentioned the MBA programme has been started in 1997 and it is pretty old.

Maybe you can try finding some seniors here in PaGaLGuY and get your queries/concerns clarified.

@ajaygovindg hello sir!!i am expecting 92+ %ile with 80% in b.techi wanna ask you, how dms, ism dhanbad is?i know its not that much reputed college, but i wanna ask, why so?means, al the management departments of other IIT's HAS rose to fame and acquired standerd, but why ISM, dhanbad failed to make a mark in management studies....?it is very good engineering college(top 10,as u know), its management department is as old as one of the oldest of other iit's....then why didnt it acquire standerd ....wat could be the reason of it?so will the tag of IIT ,ISM DHANBAD will help me in long run. by that, i mean, is it worth applying considering the tag of IIT? as i will surely get into it, as its cut off percentile is just mere 60%ile..........
yaar trust me

if u really want to do mba for it's great use and getting good profiles after placements and at the same time learn from great minds

do not even think of doing mba leaving aside top 20 bschools of india
but if u ant a job and are thinking to do it this year or have no toher optio then join any good bschool
don; go for ism dhanbad if u are expecting 92%ile
maybe go for IMI
always do mba from an institute where mba is it's flagship programme , leaving aside iit's
ism dhanbad would not give u that exposure which maybe traditional iit would give

@ajaygovindg apprecite ur honest reply man...
@ajaygovindg and also 1 more thing...i hv read it sumwhere...that mba in IIT's are only applicable to engg students...and nly engg can enroll in for mba in IIT's....throw some lit on this plz?

yes only engg are eligible for mba from iits as per till last year

though this year 1-2 iit's may change this

@ibad786 said:
I agree. No offence meant but one will always have a secondary feeling on campus as primarily its an engineering college.
correct

though iit's have a pan india or pan world presence par haan ur point is also valid
some say companies which come for btech placements go to mba students for placemets

though i can't confirm this , only as per some students reports

par iits ka tag bahur bada hai yaar
iit bombay and 1-2 more iits like kharagpur are good for mba
fees bhi kam hai
iits mba depends upon which other colleges u are getting for mba
