Hi,my acads are tenth 91,inter 95,BE 70,and 13 months of work ex till now as an electrical engineer.my sim cat percentiles are 86,90,85,75,90,75,85.
which colleges do i need to apply?and i am an obc candidate.at any cost i need to do my mba this year i mean 2013.pls suggest me

@asifpasha FMS, NITIE, SJMSOM, IIT delhi, IIT kgp, IIT chennai, JBIMS, the tution fee in these colleges are less than 8 lakhs for sure. placement and salary can not be judged before hand, it not only depends on the college, but also depends on your performance, ur profile, ur wok exp, specialization and so many things.

Have been through your profile.
But in most of the B schools, they go through the profile after GD/PI.
Fot getting a call, only your written score is taken ie CAT/XAT.
Ya, the ppl with better percentage or without gap will get advantage, but to get into top b schools, u need to prooof, that you worth that much.
prepare a good reason for your gap & low acads, which will convince them. And perform best in the GD.
That is the only key to get in

1. Do not get worried about the past now as you cannot change it. Focus on scoring as high as possible in order to get calls from all top b-schools except for may be few colleges that give more importance to acads.

You can apply to any b-school or any number of b-schools even if you do not have any work-ex.
Your acads are decent. If you can score good in CAT/XAT, you are good to go at most of the Top B-Schools as well.

1. Deadline for Sep CMAT is already over. Now, you can register for Feb 2013 CMAT. And yes, you should def give CMAT as Maharashtra Colleges will be accepting CMAT Scores.

Your profile to me seems pretty bland and average. Try and understand, more than half of the guys who take up CAT each year, have a similar profile as yours. I too had a similar profile as yours when I was in my last year of engineering and while I was preparing for my MBA entrances. The only good thing in my profile was my Extra-Curricular and believe me, I was directly or indirectly asked about my AVERAGE scores in all the 14 interviews I had faced. Since I had a backup in my extra-currics, I was able to justify most of the times.
You see, you need to score more than the lot and keep a margin of safety of atleast 1 or 2 percentile above the cut-offs in order to enhance your chances of a convert.
Find some star points in your profile, magnify them, prepare them, and throw them away during the interview on the panelists. That is how you take control of the interview, and get into a comfort zone. ;)
Also, as far as your applications are considered, if you are inteested in Nirma, then I must tell you, you won't get an I-Bank profile from Nirma. This year, the highest recruiter was Infosys who took 45 students in IT Consulting profiles from Nirma. Most of the batch had placements in marketing domain. Banks like IDBI, ICICI, HDFC and a few more I don't remember, did recruit, but then again, with a very basic customer-end or operations related profile.
SP Jain - Yes. A good college for people targeting Fin profiles. But then again, you need to get atleast 99+ score in order to even get a call since I'm afraid , you do not have a good academic profile.
NLDalmiya - Sorry I have no clue about this college.
JB - Indeed a great college. Should be a definite in your list. But again, its tough to get in.
Apart from this, Fin-based other colleges are NIBM Pune, IFMR, LBS (MBA-Finance - 60 seats).
These are specialized finance based colleges.

Saikat, I have a friend, who is 8 years elder to me. He was in the same school as me, but when I was in my 5th, he was in his 12th Science! He flunked 12th a couple of times, joined a Diploma in IT after trying hard to pass his 12th. After his Diploma, he waited to get a job, for some time, before getting fed up and joining a B.E in the year 2007 from my Engg college. Now you see, I was in the same class as he was, plus I was 8 years younger than him!
To cut the long story short, he was old, he was a fresher, and he had scored just 89 percentile in CAT while I had a 93percentile. Needless I had more calls and then converts than him. But that guy had some dedication. I couldn't convert TAPMI general MBA, so I didn't join its Banking and Finance course. While this lad, had joined TAPMI, became one of the top students there, and now works in a company people only dream of getting into! :)
Although he as entered there as a Management Trainee, just like any fresher would do, but the reason why I am sharing this incidence with you is NEVER CONSIDER YOURSELF AS A WASTE! You might have your reasons for your past, but look at the brighter side! The Future too is in your hands, and that is what matters! And if you are able to justify that to the people sitting on the other side of the table, then VOILA, everything is yours! :)
But please understand one more thing. You need to score more than others to get your call converted from the same institute as others do. That one thing you need to keep in mind my friend! :)

I am not sure about this, but then the most economical GOOD B-Schools would be the following:
1.) FMS Delhi (The creme-de-la-creme of the lot)
2.) SPM Gandhinagar (Fee includes everything is around 6 lacs)
3.) KJ Somaiya
4.) Nirma (Cheap. Around 7 lacs max)
5.) FMS BHU
Symbiosis colleges are COMPARATIVELY cheaper than the lot too. Tuition fees lies in the range of 8 -9 lacs (I am not so sure, as during my time, the fee was about 7 lacs, and then they increased it)
There might as well be some more, but I am not able to recollect them.

You should def give Feb CMAT. Even if you don't get a good college, you will have the experience of giving Exam.
Also, if you feel you cannot do very well in one of the sections, there are college with No Sectional Cut Offs. e.g GIM, KJ-Som, etc. So you can go ahead with giving XAT as well.
Since, you do have the oppurtunity to give 1 more attempt next yr, I would suggest you to work very hard in your weak Section so that you can hit at the Top B-Schools next year.

Apply to all the colleges which has reservations! At a score above 95 you might as well get an IIM convert as well (I am really not sure about the score, but I knew a friend who pulled off IIM-B three years back with 93 %ile)
I don't know which other colleges do, but all the Symbiosis Institutes have reservations for SC/ST categories.
My institute too has reservations for SC/ST candidates only, and all the OBC candidates are considered as Freshers. But IIMs do have! :)
