Hello puys...
I have decent acads in school... But the problem lies in my grad (engineering).
I am in my 7th sem.. Got result till 5th sem , the worst part is i have 6 backlogs (3 backs i have appeared and result is awaited which will come in end of oct; rest 3 i am planning to drop according to my University rules) . Also my grad percentage lies btwn 52-56 %age..
So plz let me knw the drawbacks of my situation ... Mainly in my GDPIs and final admission..
one of the drawback i knw is tht i cant apply to colleges asking fr grad 60% like IITs / NITIE /FMS ..

2. Apart from that, there is no major drawback. But be ready to face and justify questions in your interviews for B-Schools regarding this.
3. Also for most of the IIM's, you will have tough time as there is decent amount of weightage allocated to grad marks as well. SO you might have to score a higher %ile in CAT to get the GD/PI Call.
4. Also after you join a B-School, you might not be eligible to sit in few companies which have through out 60% criteria.
5. Try to improve your %age as much as you can. And give your best to CAT 2012. That is all what you can do right now. All the best.. !!
@[370697:avinashkrjha] - Thanx for the reply... Till my grad gets over i blv i can make it 60 % ... :)
thank you
... found the thread... regarding vaibhav's query above... even i dont have the required 60% in my 12th although there is no problem as such in my graduation... so for the placements in b schools.. companies would object to the fact...? even in b school they wont let me sit for placements because of my low percentage in 12th
?

There might be few companies with this criteria. For rest, you can sit for placements. So better try to make up for this by scoring good marks there in the B-School. All the best.. !!
My profile :
@katvond said: My profile :90+ in 10th and 12th80 in grad.no work exp.which B-schools should i look to?also, which are the best b-schools for finance and marketing?
1. Seeing your profile, you can look up to any B-School in India except for few who give a very high weightage to work-ex. Though they are very few.
2. I won't rank colleges, but few good options for marketing are : IIM-A, FMS, IIM-L , IIM-B , IIM-K, MDI, SIBM, IIM-Indore, NMIMS and others.
3. Similarly for Finance : IIM-Joka, SPJAIN, and others.

@Sohini2289 said:@visionIIM-ACL I am quite confused with the kind of specialization i should do?Though i want to do MBA in HR i dont know much about it..how are the job prospects after doin an MBA in HR,am i fit for it or not, what are the skills required to do mba in hr..which b-schools to apply for to do mba in hr etc.Is it okay to do general/core MBA/PGDM which i suppose doesnt have any kind of specialization?which specialization has the best job prospects and which has maximum competition?if u can answer these questions or give me some idea as to how go to about with choosing a specialization it would be of great help..thanks
Hi
Sorry for the late response... i hope you would have gone through the links posted by Avinash. 😃
Coming to the query,
1. Job prospects in HR are good if you get through colleges like XLRI and TISS that are highly reputed for MBA-HR in industry. However, more than job prospects i will suggest to see if you wish to build career in HR.
Having a job and building a career are two different things. 😃
2. Read more about HR from Why HR thread and then see if you will be interested in the same. Skill sets are mostly focused on soft aspect of the personality like communication skills, convincing power and even negotiation skills to an extent.
3. All specializations provide with good opportunities to build career, just the point of concern is that an individual should actually be interested in specialization as per his/her interests and not take things as a burden for just the sake of job.
4. Since all specializations have their own scope in opportunities, they have almost same competition. And, competition should never be a criteria to select one as well.
Hope this helps.
Cheers!
Please tell me the best colleges for operations. It would be very helpful if you could also tell me the cutoffs for operations for the same.
Thanks a lot!

@pro15 said:hey puys help me....One of my friend told me that you need 80% nd above to get into iim a,b ..how true is it??/
Buddy
It is not a hard and fast rule for A. However, very rarely you will find a person in B with acads less than 80% ( almost none ) but you can still find the same in A.
Reason being there are many other factors also that play role in case of A and if you do well in them, you have a chance to make it to A whereas B does give very high weightage to academic profile.
Suggest not to worry about it much at this stage as it is not something that is in your hand, also colleges keep on changing the criteria almost every year these days, so wait to see how things go for this season. For time being, focus on preparation and maximize the score.
Rest can be taken care of at later stages 😃
All the best!

I dont think so. 😃 Score high and then with a decent GDPI , you should be able to make it. 😃
No matter what the criteria has been changed to, Male engineers are still the highest population in all B-Schools. And no need to feel down for being a fresher as there are good number of roles for which companies prefer freshers or people with low work ex. 😃
All the best!
I completed my +2 in 2006 and then did a 3 yr Aircraft Maintenance Engineering course and after 2009, i got job and have 2 yrs of work-ex, but got a graduation certificate now (2012) through a bridge course from Singhania univ.
