4. HCL Singapore Pte Ltd., Singapore (By March '16 it will be approx 2 years as I have no plan of changing job again till I get into business school :) )
I know my profile is pretty ordinary and I need to work really hard on my GMAT and essays. I need following:
1. What GMAT score should I aim for for putting up a strong case in front of adcom.
2. Considering my recent Mock Results (620 - Economist GMAT Tutor and 640 - PlatinumGMAT Mock) without any prior preperation, what strategy will best suit me. P.S. I am good at Quant and OK in Verbal.
3. What other institutes would you suggest me to apply for? For eg. whether IIMs can be given a try considering my profile?
Will really appreciate your inputs as I am planning to attempt for GMAT in January '15.
Hi,
I recently gave the gmat and got a 730. My profile is as follows
BE - 66% from Nagpur university
2 years of techie work ex after that in techmahindra
MBA from Scmhrd between 2008-10. Worked for a top FMCG firm between 2010 till Feb 2014.
I was an area sales manager and led teams from size 5 to 10 (on stretch assignments). Then was a Brand manager for 1.5 yrs and was part of a very successful brand team. I was the only one shifting to brands from sales in that year in my company. Overall good leadership exp in this phase of my career and lots of challenging assignments to talk about.
Currently I am working with a mktg Analytics startup in Bangalore as a consultant and have a team of 3 business analysts reporting to me. This is exciting work with most clients From the US and Europe. The culture is very different from a FMCG firm and one of the reasons I joined. I wanted to exp working in start ups before I went in for another MBA to better understand their challenges.
So total of 6 yrs of work ex. 4 yrs post MBA, 2 yrs pre MBA.
My aim is one of the following colleges
Wharton / LBS / Kellogg / Ross / Tuck / Duke. I want to keep Emory as a safe school.
My acads are ok throughout. Not Topper material but always in top 15 percentile.
I have been an active quizzer throughout my college life and have won a few of them. I have played football for the college team and I am a runner. I have ran a few 10ks and plan to run the half marathon in oct and I am training for it.
I have been active in committees and event organising (headed quiz comms, cultural festivals etc) and have been part of my earlier mba school's placement committee.
Any comments on how realistic my aspirations are and how to go about the process of applying to schools would be of immense help. Also plz ignore the spellings. This iPad is cumbersome to type on.
