Ok i have a similar doubt.. if you do a PGDM from anywhere in India.. your degree says PGDM.. so you can get another MBA from abroad right?
That's right daffyme-ji. You can go for a second MBA abroad.
In India we get the MBA degree packaged in many flavours, but the content is more or less the same. Only the prestige varies depending on where you've completed it from.
But for Adcoms it's essentially the same situation, as you'd be considered a second MBA applicant. We work with several such candidates each year and need to spend extra effort (on justifying the why-2nd-MBA question) while working on the application storyline.
hi sir,my name is aravind and i am from chennai. At Present i have finished my b.e in ece in 2011 (present passed out).i am now in an aim to do my mba abroad and i also heard that most of the universities prefer experienced candidates, so i decided to prepare and do the gmat test now and after two years of work experience i want to apply for admissions abroad .please tel me wether my decision is right or wrong and i also have a doubt that if i apply after two years for adimission with a two years old gmat score will the universities give priority to my score or will they jump to the person with the recent gmat score. i look forward to your reply. thanks Aravind L
Hi, I am Neha Kapoor from Mumbai. I've pursed my diploma in Computer Engineering from Mumbai, and for my bachelors degree, I am going to Temple University, Philadelphia, USA.There, I am a Computer Science major. Now that Computer Science is such a popular field, I was thinking of choosing a minor. So can you please tell me what minors will work as a good combination with my Computer Science major ? I am interested in Management studies too. Also, will it be wise to transfer after my freshmen year ? Or should I complete my degree as soon as I can, and then prepare for GMAT ? Please help. Thank you 😉
Sirji, you reached out to us over email with the exact same content. We responded, but never heard back from you. So continuing the discussion here.
GMAT 740 (Q51, V39) How good Is a 740 from an Indian/IT/Male category?
That's a good score. A little more balance between Q/V would've been nice, but don't worry about it. Most Indians have skewed scores in verbal. Just move on to the other components of the application.
Indian/IT/Male/25 (Yeah, I belong to the most competitive pool of applicants !!!) : Work Experience : I believe my work experience is very much different from the normal IT job that people do and this is the area am banking on. : Have gone to multiple teams over the last 3 years with varied roles in the Software cycle. Currently a Program manager.
From the last (role-related) points that I've extracted from your profile, it does sound pretty much like a regular IT role. Care to elaborate a little more about the why-different part?
Post MBA Goals : Getting into either Consulting or Finance.
You'll have to freeze up on one. Can't leave the ambiguity in, if you are targetting the top-20.
3 years today, 4 at matriculation :
There's a lot of data that you've shared here. For a resume, it's ok (though I'd have loved to trim this up and make it easier to digest).
But when you are writing essays and trying to tell Adcoms why you are better than the rest, just remember that it's not about how much detail you can cram into their word limit. It is more about how you can prioritise, package and present your entire life history in there.
Hi, I am Manikanth from Hyderabad. I gave my GMAT yesterday and got 730(M 51, V 3. I have 3 years of IT exp with Oracle India. I did my MCA from NITK, Surathkal and BSc(Electronics) from Pune University.
My academics: X - 73% Inter - 75% BSc - 81% MCA - 8.4 (CGPA)
I have a very different background and it was never a cake walk for me. I started my first job in a STD booth in my 7th class and have worked in many petty jobs since then to support my education. As part of my jobs, I have developed interest in various fields that is how I joined BSc(electronics) and then did an MCA. In the last 3 yrs in Oracle i've had exposure to various ERP modules and now am more interested in strategy or Product management roles, either of which needs an MBA. I am targeting ISB and few other US B-schools (only those which offer good fundings as I can't afford anything above 25 lakhs, since I can get loan for only that amount :D). Can you please tell my chances for ISB and suggest any good US B-schools, which provide good funding and also has good placement record.
I took my GMAT for the second time recently and ended up scoring roughly the same.
I have 31 months of work experience with IT now and will have 42 months while joining the b-school. .
10th : 92.4% 12th : 96% B.E : 69%
Both my BE score and GMAT score are not up to the expectations of many good schools. I'm planning to take up the IELTS soon and hoping I'd score above 6.5 .
I'm looking at Canada and Great Lakes Institute of Management in India.
I have quite a few appreciations and awards at school level, district level, college level and also at the company.
Have presented a few papers and won them, have participated in a lot of events involving art and have won most of them.
I have completed a certificate program in Sales and Marketing from Loyola Institute of Business Administration in April 2011.
I have co-ordinated a lot of activities, events, culturals and functions at college and at the work place. Have been a constant blood donator too.
Could you please suggest some good schools in Canada where I stand a chance and it is worth the time and money I invest? Also suggest about my chances to GLIM.
..browsed through a lot of advice given, very informative...and LOTs of gyaan:).
Okay,I'l try to structure my queries as much as possible:
1.I REALLY want to know about the various options available in Masters in Operations/General Management( :LSE's Masters in Management would be an utopian scenario!) If you can provide a some info regarding the courses available and the job profile after completing the Masters.
2.What are the advantages/disadvantages of Masters after Grad/..over an MBA ? Would really appreciate your viewpoint. Other than these my MBA specific queries are:
3.Since my BE score is not that high ,what are the ways I can offset that in my application? Are there any specific Certificate courses I can target to mildly improve my profile. :)
4.Which level of colleges I should be able to get in US/UK/Singapore..considering the poor acads?
5.If I join my family Business will it count as Work ex?(Its a SME).Will it harm my chances of an MBA if I cannot show them professional work ex?
6.Which Course can provide me a breakthrough into the alternative sources/Green Energy industry?(It's something that I would love to build my career in :))

My suggestion is to look at the average GMAT scores of the school and apply to schools that are within the 80% range. That would effectively put all the top schools in Canada and India out of your reach - Rotman, Schulich, Richard Ivey, ISB - and yes even GLIM.

Hi Manikanth,
Congratulations! I think you have reached out to both Sameer and I over the last few months.
I personally think that "diversity: is not measured just in terms of industry/function/role but also in terms of the perspective that you bring to the table. From that aspect your story seems very interesting. I am pretty sure you will have a lot to offer in terms of that diversity.
ISB is always going to be a 1 in 10 chance based on their acceptance % but I think if you articulate yourself well through the essays then you have a good chance.

Hi I have conditional offers for MBA from Cardiff Univ and for MSc Management from Univ of Bath and Univ of Strathclyde. All one year duration. Confusion is MBA from a lower ranked univ betterthan MSc from a higher ranked univ. Secondly does MSc in Management have employment opportunities in Uk?

i couldn't find a thread that address MBAs universities abroad that accept you on basis of your college and schools percentages and not on entrance exams.
i have two main questions here. -can anyone provide me with a list of good worth it universities abroad that shortlist you on basis of your college and school percentage with no entrance exams, maybe only interviews.
-The other question is more specific. has anyone studied at JCU singapore? will you be able to give me some feedback on the degree's worth? and job prospects and such?
Thank you in advance for your replies. It is highly appreciaited
Most of the Univs in UK do not ask for any entrance test scores for MSc Management. Univ of Cardiff and Univ of Aberdeen do not ask for any entrance test score for MBA. They waive IELTS or TOEFL under certain circumstances - for instance Personal Interview.

I wish to apply to decent colleges in Asia/Europe/USA , well only problem I think with my profile is that I don't have work experience , but well I do want to continue my education right now . Please Suggest.
