Aww ... I always wanted to be there ... to enjoy the sunset on the beaches, to snorkel - get blown by the amazing coral reefs around that place .. ! How did you go about planning that trip - How many days, rough itenerary, costs, food and local cuisines, etc etc - Elaborate please
@Monil...Andamans was a wonderful experience...me explored too little(portblair and coupla other isles)...there are lot many islands(like havlock which is a must visit) which i cudnt visit due to my short trip.
if u expect some great water sporting experience, my disclaimer first The water park at portblair has been ravaged by the tsunami and much of the sheen is lost there ...the ppl at the water park told so...efforts are on to start all the services. Snorkelling! Same old story, tsunami affected the North bay island, the coral island visited by tourists. Still people snorkel and also go on glass floored boats to see the corals. A gud experience for a first timer, but not for a seasoned tourist, i believe.
Now coming to the scenic beauty part...no comparisons...i wud like to visit again and again...cant stop praising....u let the evening pass by at wandoor/ cove sea beach or be it at the old British Ross Island.I will go again to discover the Andamans...had a very short stay...much is still to be explored. A visit to cellular jail in the morning and the light and sound show in the evening, one feels that the trip to Andaman has really been successful. One experiences what our freedom fighters underwent in those days. Its a pilgrimage place of our freedom struggle.
Ross Island, is the place where the British stayed it overlooks the cellular jail. A reminiscent of their times, the island is picturesque and has old church, bakery, water distillation plant, swimming pool (nothing is in use though) among other things. Old trees which have fixed their thick roots on houses, there are deers grazing and many variety of birds.
Abt expenses...my dad and his company footed the bill not much idea. You will get all ranges of hotels and services. For veggies food is a huge problem(as is everywhere with us)...non-veggies enjoy it though.
I wish to add that our host was a nice guy, very cordial and saw to it that we enjoyed our stay. If anytime u plan to visit Andaman, i cud pm u his cell no., u better talk to him and plan ur trip. And yes plan for a min. of 5 days to visit far islands like Havelock (which is a must) and so that u enjoy every place rather than hurry from one place to the other till u catch the flight back. Portblair gets domestic flights from Kolkata and Chennai. Hope this has been useful to u. :) Cheers! P.S. do share ur experiences after u return.
I have been almost all over India (mostly when I was a child).
The best place where I have been is possibly Munnar, Kerala. I loved the tea gardens, the mountains, the weather. But again, I'd recommend it to be visited after marriage.
Last year I was on a trek in the Himalayas - a place called Panchachuli (Five mountains). It was the most amazing experience to walk through a difficult terrain and be one with nature. I would recommend it esp. for people (those with not so luggage around their waist(read 'fat') ) around Delhi. Its more fun if there's a group of friends willing to explore nature from close quarters. I'd be happy to assist in case you're game for it.
Hi Puys, I am planning for a trip to goa in Late july/ Early august. Can someone PM me any gud website on goa( accomodation, activities, food, places to get around, night life ) etc etc .
recently i went to a wonderful serene place wid my bro and a friend..d name of that beautiful place in himachal is "chail". it is very near to simla and about 120kms from chandigarh..it is an ideal place to spend a lazy weekend..it boasts of a beautiful palace known as chail palace and the world highest cricket ground which is 7500 sqft above sea level. it has a resort called tarika jungle retreat which is amidst jungles and living there in swiss tents or cottages is an unforgettable experience. kali ka tibba is a sunset point and a temple is also there which is a viewer's delight..so if you want to spend a time of your life at a place which has lazy elegance.. so chail is d place.. and ya it has more monkeys than humans...lolz
The best place that I've visited so far, is Khajiar. It's popularly known as the "Switzerland of India" because of its breathtaking hilly-lush green landscapes. I had visited this place 2 yrs ago, and fell in love with it ! The memories are still so afresh !
Khajiar is near Dharamshala, another place worth seeing if you are interested in visiting monasteries (in the background of the magnificent Himalayas :) You can easily get a bus to Dharamshala from Pathankot.
