how are FINTAC certifications?? and do we have to give each paper seperately or we can give two or 3 at at a time like NCFM? asking this because its difficult to travel to delhi again and again.
i am interested in finance field.
kritigup..
Honestly speaking, I havent heard much about FINTAC and their reviews or recognitions anywhere else other than this thread. Hence, I am not too sure about the financial courses offered by them. Not much details on the website as well. However, from the name of the modules, they look similar to NCFM modules. So you can as well do the NCFM certifications. To have a further edge, I would say, still ICFAI short-term finance courses (certificates/diplomas) are time-tested and imparts a lot of knowledge.
Other than these 2 options, you obviusly have your CA (darn tough) and your CFA/CPA/FRM as well. CFA/FRM would take some hardwork and patience, but if you are ready to invest 3 years, nobody will be able to beat you in finance. Its a global standard. CA, on the other hand, requires patience of the highest degree.

i am going to drop this year for CAT preparation..gave cat 2010 also..so wanted to do some short term courses..icfai courses are correspondence courses?
Yes.distance.and short term courses are available as well..but I would suggest give your best shot to CAT, single-minded..once into the creme-de-la-creme, you can take up elite certifications rather than courses..then you can enjoy an awesome internship..and then a big collar job..But thats my perspective, definitely, preparing solely with A thing in mind can sometimes get frustrating..so you can surely look into the 4-6 month diploma courses offered by ICFAI/SCDL/Welingkar/etc..O yes, Hughes too has some nice 4 month courses..
All the best!

Hi Suraj,
Firstly, 60% of the A grade B school graduates are fresh from college..hence, go for CAT bigtime and crack it!! All the best!!
As far as finance courses are concerned, the same goes for you. Since you already are a commerce graduate, you'd know which course to choose..but as far as options go, if you go through my last few posts in last couple of pages, they all speak about options for short term and long term certifications in Finance.
All the best!
i did my bcom last yr and going for cat 2011 but i dnt have job.in the meantime i want to make my profile strong. can anybody suggest me the option please.i will be highly obliged

Would doing PGDRM (Retail Management) from SCDL help a marketing mba pursuing student ??
For someone having 3 yrs workex as a Software pro in a big4 Audit firm under a major US Bank Client ,having 6/7 NCFM certifications, what should he take up next prior to MBA's for enhancing profile :
1. CFA L1 / FRM L1 / CFP by FPSB?
Can someone brief on the differences of the above and which suits the bill for a pre MBA(Fin)?
Please suggest in case of any other certifications which one should take.
2. As per my knowledge, NCFM/BSE certifications are for self knowhow only, for someone who has no background of markets, indexes etc....and they do not contribute to ur CV.
@Digital..there can be no certification or course to enhance a profile in Marketing..Good that you are doing the program from SCDL..but thats it..after that, just plunge into the corporate world..to excel in marketing, you've to taste the real sand and soil, unless you work and take up challenges in the real world, you will not be able to do good..nothing except learning from the workplace can help you sell a product or research a market segment.
So all the best! Hope you do good in your career! And learn as much theoretical concepts of retail marketing from your course as possible..thereafter just plunge into the job!
@GANESH..you are absolutely correct, NCFM is for starters, and it does help for starter CVs, as you would agree, that even CVs modify themselves with time..
But you are surely a step ahead..Now, coming to which path to tread, it all depends on :
-> if your past software workex had any relation to anything in Finance, and if so, which domain. (investment or risk or planning)
-> what your area of interest is.
-> what domain of NCFM modules you've taken up.
Now considering the above factors will definitely help you in establishing the decision. As for credibility, all the 3 enjoy their respective elite global standards.People would say CFA here, but its just that a investment banking career is so popular these days.(yes again, after the sub-prime crisis) But I would still say that a CFP or a FRM (GARP) is equally elite. If you want to become a risk professional and you feel you understand financial risk markets better, go for FRM ; if you feel you can make a career in planning and consulting of financial instruments, go for CFP; and if you feel you are the next Buffet in the making, and you have it in you what it takes for a investment banking reward as well as rigour, go for CFA.
(just a small snippet to add here - a top class rewarding investment banking career comes with the biggest of moolahs, but with a consistent 6/7 day 18/20 hour workweeks..:))
Note that I know how can you simply "feel" which one you are good at. Thats where your basic NCFM modules would come useful, and yet if you are at a confused cross for a decision, do some basic research and see which of the subject or career progress path enchants you more and is more comprehendible to you.
Note again, an MBA (Fin) is a completely different world. It would teach you how to "manage" finance. You'll learn to do the job. With what domain specific skill you'll do the job depends on the certified tag you carry. So a CFA/FRM/CFP + MBA would definitely make you creme-de-la-creme in the domain you choose and get certified in.
All the best dude!
Hi,
I am interested in HRM..
Can someone suggest what certifications I should go for ?
-Thanks!
@iim_a, like I said for Marketing, wherein nothing except working works, in HRM, nothing except researching the best HRM courses work. HR is one behavioral science which contains a lot of things within, accordingly universities usually tweak in their HR programs. So I'd suggest do research on universities worldwide / India and their HR related courses, some would be MS, while others would be MBA, or even simply PG and then decide which one to go for. I am not aware of any elite HRM cerfications. I just know 2 names, TISS and XL..:)
All the best!

Actually i thought that since i am pursuing my mba right now i could try to finish it off side by side with it
But thanks you've explained it too well

Hey, Thanks a lot.
I guess, opting for CFAL1 now and later capping it with CFP will be good.
For CFP,2 months study is good enough and the exam can be taken on any weekday.
The downside is that these certifications are expensive and Net cost for appearing in these 2 exams( CFA L1 and FRM) is steep.
Some of my school friends working as PO's now have done their JAIIB/CAIIB and have good knowledge in Risk management/Corp Fin/Trade equity.
I guess exposure in work place is equally important.
@GANESH, sounds like a good plan..you can go with CFP after a CFA L1..CFA L1 would not take more than 3 months..its easy, L2 and L3 are toughest..so after your CFA L1, take up the CFP..
I guess the costs of all these 3 are equally worth it.
Yes, work experience is very important. Infact, for CFA, even if you clear all the 3 levels, you will not get your charter unless you are able to show 4 years of workex in the investment banking industry.
