tanmoysxs- how are FINTAC certifications?? and do we have to give each paper seperately or we can give two or 3 at at a time like NCFM? asking this because its difficult to travel to delhi again and again. i am interested in finance field.
hi kriti....
well yes...not many of us have heard abt fintac certifications.....it is coz the company was earlier more focussed towards industry services and other certifications.....they have now entered into management certifications.....the course material is good n starts from the very basic...designed for those who are willing to start a career in a new field.....
u can take as many certification as u want in one go......

First, Why do u want to go to Company Scretariship?
As an young engineer, just in your 2nd year,u must be looking forward to internships in ur engg core field.
Also,in case u take up CS,be ready to face this qstn : " If CS was in ur mind, then y pursue engg?"

I have just passsed my engineering and will be joining PwC as an IT consultant in a month or so......I would ideallly like to do an MBA and get into management consultancy.......are there any certifications that can be useful for my case??
Hi, I graduated as an IT engineer and am currently pursuing an MBA in finance. Right now, I am doing an internship from ICICI bank. But I end up getting lot of free time since I need to visit office only around 4 days/week. So was thinking of utilizing the time for giving some good certification exams, which will help knowledge wise and also in CV enhancement.
I have already given NCFM - Beginners module & Security markets module, a couple of yrs back. I will be taking up a specialization in derivatives in the final yr of my mba, hence was thinking of giving the Derivative market - dealers module. But what I want to know is whether there is much use of NCFM module in terms of CV enhancement? Giving them in the beginning when I was lukin to enter financial mgmt was fine, but now when m already doing an mba in finance, wud it make much difference to my CV? Coz now-a-days almost every1 gives these exams.
I have been thinking about CFA, but may not be giving it this year, so can you suggest any other good certifications which might be useful for me, or do you think CFA wud be the best option?
Whichever suits your profile and interests, just go ahead with that. These constitute the elite club in the financial world which will take you places. Develop a mindset for the rigour required to achieve them, as these will need some bigtime substantial effort from your end. An investment of 2-3 years which contain in store for you some of the biggest and brightest rewards possible in one's career!
I would be joining B-school this year , would be taking finance as my specialization and i am planning to do CFA . My doubt is if i am able to complete only CFA- level 1 till the time of placements , will that be useful in any case during placements ... or only completion of 3 levels alone would be considered valid..... Also i have heard that the final CFA degree would be given only after 4 yrs of exp ?? is that so ???
CFA L1 by the time of placement will be a definite advantage. A person during his MBA can by no means complete all the 3 levels, unless he is God.
And L2 and L3 are way too tough, you can do them once into job.
Yes, the rule is that even after passing all the 3 levels of CFA, you will definitely get the certification and value and brand recognition and acceptance of yourself in the industry..but but but, the Charter, which is why you had started with the CFA will be yours only after 4 years of "relevant" workex, i.e, to be a charterholder, you will have to show to the CFA 4 years of workex in the investment banking industry.
i am going to complete my b tech in june 2011. i plan to do cfa before doing my mba( which , i hope would be sometime in the nxt 2-3 years). is it possible to study for cfa while working? n will it be of any advantage when i sit for mba interviews(apart from increasing my knowledge of finance)...from the point of view of profile enhancement?
I need some help , regarding NCFM certifications , if not NCFM then any other certifications to differentiate my profile, i could not pursue CFA because of economic constraints, so would like to know about any specific certification which could help me improve my profile
I have 30 months of IT work ex, pursuing MBA at IMI Delhi , and i am doing summers at Stan Chart under private banking division read wealth management division (just mentioned if this internship experience can be complemented by any specific certification )
Take some time. Wait for you to get into a job, see the domain you are into, see whether you still want to do your MBA,and if so, if the liking has changed towards any other major, basically take a year break, settle in a job, and then once you make up your mind, and quite comfortable in your job, you can surely simultaneously pursue your CFA working. And yes, if you can even complete a L1 by the time you take your GDPIs, you will surely be at an edge for admissions.
abhimukh19,
I believe, with a good StanChart internship there is no need for you to complement anything right now. I would suggest complete your internship, do your L1,if not this Dec, target next June (by when you will already have a job confirmed), and then start your job with a L1, once into job, think about the feasibility of a L2 and L3 and then move ahead.I am not sure how much a FRM or CPA cost, if they are lesser, you can pursue them too. But even before you kickstart with any ONE of these certifications, do keep in mind each of these financial domain is different, so you decide what kind of a financial consultant you would eventually want to become, whether a risk manager, or a investment specialist, or a financial planning manager.

Thanks for you insight..I will be joining an MBA institute this june.I want to fine tune my profile with finance as a major and plan to do the CFA sometime down the line.I understand that the rigours of a MBA curriculum would not spare me any time so am hoping to write the level 1 exam next june when i would hopefully be completing my summer internship.
Is it going to provide me an upper hand when it comes to final placements and would you endorse my plan or would you suggest me to go for it after i finish my MBA?
Passing your L1 during your MBA is possible and with a year in hand, its definitely possible. A finance major is also going to help you. And yes, a big upper hand..:) But all this only after you make up your mind to become a investment analyst / advisor. I-banking is just a sea in the ocean of Finance.
