We did have a course in Project mgmt as part of the MBA curriculum, and as part of the course, did work on MS Project.. so needed to know of some certifications to boost the profile.

How about any certification on IPM+ , i think this tool is widely used in IT companies for project estimation , to billing information etc πŸ˜ƒ

Vivek,

I am preparing for the PMI-PMP right now and am taking the exam next month.

Let me know your queries on the same.

FYI..MS PM and the PM elective as a part of the MBA curriculum is a minute subset of the PMI standard. Again, this is about PMI. If you talk about Scrum or Prince or Agile, then that is different. PMI, however, is "the" global standard in the world of project management.

Depending on your work profile and work ex, you can either pursue the CAPM or PMP or PgMP.

Hello every one. I am presently working in Power Sector in B to B marketting (2 years Workex till date). I am planning to give CAT this year.
I am facing a dillema. I am not able to decide whether to go for NCFM (Capital Markets/ Derivatives Markets) in next 1-2 Months or CFA Level-1 next year in Dec once i get into a good b school. .

Further Can CFA Level-1 be given next year in June with 2 months preparation? as I am looking for some boost in my resume.

A site www. nationaltalenthunt. com (remove the spaces) will be holding an e-national aptitude test on 4th sept.....all getting above 85 percentile will be given a certificate........

This won't be of much use during MBA placements n all.....but it might add a bullet point on the CV and can help during undergrad job interviews.....especially for those who don't have too many certificates for extra-curricilarsn all.....

@nishant
no details of test centre has been mentioned. plz comment.

No test centre......you sit and home and give the test online.......

A few time slots are given......just login at the starting time of one of the slots and you can give it.....

main reason for it is to boost my profile for b-school ...
can u suggest for some of these...

Hi,

There are various certifications available that one can undertake.

Broadly speaking, the choices available are
BSE, NSE and FLIP.

BSE is largely classroom type sessions and also more expensive.
NSE and FLIP are both more cost effective.

NSE and FLIP in fact have 2-3 joint certifications also.
I noticed that Equity Research and a couple of others have FLIP training and NSE certifications.

Caveat: There's no doubt that CFA and FRM are possibly the benchmark for Finance certifications. But they come at a big price.

My two paise worth of advice :

If you're getting ready to start studies at a B-school (i.e. preparing for CAT, working, preparing after degree etc.) go for the cheaper alternatives. Once you join college, you can consider the better quality certifications (at least, at that point, you're that much more likely to get a break into the Finance industry.).

i m in bcom final year.........do i hav to get some certifications apart from good cat score for admission in a top ranking college ???

See...top bschools judge you on your overall performace till now...so if you have been a sports achiever or good in academics (90+ in 10th, 12th and likewise) or have a great extra-curricular record, then certifications aren't something that you should bother about...
however in case you don' have an outstanding CV, then you can always pursue some well-known certifications to make up for the shortcomings in your profile...

I will suggest the usual ones..NCFM or IIBF
To tell you honestly, one of the career paths you can make is to apply for Bank PO exams and then work for 2 years in bank. After that apply for MBA. This would give you a good boost in your CV for interviews as well as for your campus interviews. (This is also something I wish I would have done).

I think B-schools looks for extracurricular activities to find whether the candidates takes initiatives or not. All you need to is to justify that with some instances - even instances from your personal life will do.
