Certifications for profile building

Hi Guys,

I am a Software engineer with a work-ex of 25 months.

I wish to make a move from the IT domain to a finance domain and would like to know some of the many certifications available.
I already have the CFA in mind. However, please provide a few more names, preferably global certifications.

Thanks.

CFA is good option .. FRM is one more option available .. it all depends on how desperate and how much u can afford .. Also your long/short term goal play a vital role in doing a certification ..

say you like risk management profile offered by bank, u can go for FRM/PRM rather than CFA .. so its upto you .. do a bit of research ..

cheaper options available are NCFM and FLIP

mayank469 Says
If we register for any flip certification only. Would we be given some reading material also along with it or not ? Or we would have to register for whole training, then only we would be getting the material.

u would get training material as online module in your flip account .. these modules have expiry date of 120-180 days depending on course u choose !

say if u opt for banking and financing - indian - u will get training for it with expiry date .. same is a case with others ..

call them for more info ..

I came across this certification of International Trade provided by the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance,Mumbai.

How recognized is the certification in India and the world?

I am working in SCM function and have decent exp in scm & logistics. What certification are available in the field of scm? I read about the APICS CSCP and Six sigma in this thread and they seem to be good enough but beyond them there have not been any other options. what other certificates are available in the field of scm and logistics which have industry accreditation globally. any guidance shall be most welcomed.

thanks.

Could someone please provide his/her feedback on this post??

Furthermore, I would like to know about six sigma.. Is it mandatory for me to have a 3 year work-ex in the lean management field before I can take the exam??

certification in Supply Chain like CSCP will definitely add value except if u are in NITIE

Hi, I hv around 5.5 yrs of wrk exp in IT in s/w testing nd quality assurance field. Currently I hold the ISTQB Foundation certification.
I will be pursuing 1 yr MBA program next yr (April '12-Mar'13) in IT management.
I m planning to giv sm certifications before the start of the MBA course...can someone pls suggest good certifications that will give me an advantage for jobs post MBA in IT field....
I am thinking about CAPM and Six Sigma, but not sure whether these certis will add value to my profile after MBA and help me in getting good jobs ?

Six-Sigma definitely will. But make sure you get the corporate quality project as the certification requirement to get the belts. (not sure of the details).

CAPM will not. If you dont have project management experience, forget it. If you have, even then its PMP. CAPM is for 2-3+ guys. You are almost a 6.

All the best!

Me and my friend are doing mba in finance and hr respectively,
we want to know if there are any good certification courses in these fields that we can pursue along with our post graduate program that would help our career in the long run.....

you can do CFA Level I ,II , III and FRM

Please go for PMP and ITIL since ITIL is for IT process where as Six sigma is for industrail process rest depend on you

i do't agree with tanmoysxs cooment on CAPM and PMP certification.it is not necessary that to become Project manger you should be entire Project life cycle experience.actualy even thoough u r invloed in some of phases of the project and have PMP certification there is more likelihood to become of PM

Oh yes, I do agree with patralekh on this! I guess I was not clear enough on my previous post. However, I didnt mean entire PLC experience.

I guess what I meant was - It depends on what you want to do rather than just acquiring a cert. Any cert will add future value to your profile only when you are sequential about your plans. E.g if you've worked on quality, next thing will be a six sigma. (I guess six sigma is not just confined to industrial processes - it caters to a lot in IT consulting as well.) Once you get better profiles/projects (get more exposure through MBA), you can think whether you actually like to manage IT Projects - Implementation or manage IT Operations - Managed Services. (both are different). Thats when PMP should come into the track. That is again when you'll try to link up your past project managing experience (any phase any portion in any PLC as per patralekh) and build up on that using PMP.

What I meant was if you do not already have some PM experience, six sigma might seem more meaningful to you, also PMP application itself needs some toil (it fails audit if you're not able to show the math on your PM experience.)
If you have some exposure, I'd suggest thats good enough for PMP. Just that may be you'd want to take up six sigma first, join MBA and take ITIL/PMP as you explore/link your past/future aspirations.

All the best!

good reply

i have 35 months of IT experience mainly in oracle erp and currently doing operations mba .. am planning to give APICS cscp certification .. can anyone please guide me about this course and tell me where it could be useful in future..

Does doing a certification in Unix (Sa-1 and Sa-2) help in any way?
because this can be merged with my job requirement!! so??

And how about ITIL??

Anyone???

Since u asked for other domains as well .. and u being from IT ... u can try for the ITIL ITSM foundation certification.

It is a mandatory thing if u plan to enter the services industry and join big names like MS, HP or IBM.

hey sahil can you tell what certification can a fresher go for...well that applies to myself

I'm a btech cse not been able to get a job 😞
