Buddy these are all certifications .. each of them have modules or levels which u need to study by yourself and give exam . so all of them are short term but you need to see which one maps to your career goals .. collecting certificates for the heck of it doesn't help

Buddy

I wonder how will NCFM help you for MBA in marketing and sales ?

Request people to not just go for certifications for adding CV point, only go for those certifications which are in alignment to your career goals.

Cheers!

Exactly sir , thats why i asked if there are any certifications that would add value to my Resume just like NCFM adds to those who want to pursue MBA in Finance .
@visionIIM-ACL I guess what he meant is some Indian certification in Marketing/Sales, like NCFM for Finance (offered by Indian entities)! :mg:

Agree to the second part. No point in doing some random XYZ certification for the sake of doing it or for brownie point in resume!

My bad, misread it πŸ˜ƒ

To be frank, there are no such certifications in sales and marketing that are recognized by major companies for sales and marketing profiles.

Rather, I would suggest to take some small market research or product analysis projects yourself, work on them with the help of people around and by reading from different resources, put such projects in your CV and it would definitely bring a good value addition πŸ˜ƒ

And once into B-School, you can take up weekend projects as well as work on research papers with your profs πŸ˜ƒ

Hope this helps! πŸ˜ƒ
@robin.hood Adding to what visionIIM-ACL has said, read the disclaimer just before the Marketing/Sales certifications in my post above - "Marketing is all about skill set & one need not be necessarily certified for gaining that skill set." (which by the way is applicable for other areas also, but some people, including me, don't have the patience!! πŸ˜› ) :mg: So focus on some live projects etc. like vision said and add value to your profile and also your knowledge base to grow up the ladder. :)
@ajaygovindg - U are right sir . "Marketing is all about skill set & one need not be necessarily certified for gaining that skill set." I just want My Resume to look convincing enough for my interviewers . Though i have been the Editor-in-cheif of my college magazine and founded the Debating & Quizzing club of my college , these are things that won't distinguish me from other applicants as many ppl are involved in extra - curricular activities . Need ur suggestions on how make my Resume different from others and aligned with my decision .

I am a Software Engineer so won't be able to do any Sales or Marketing job full time now .

@robin.hood

On certification/profile building front, I guess live projects, market research projects etc. are the only way forward to show your interest in the area I believe.

And, you may want to consider MBA from institutes like MICA, SIMC, Delhi School of Communication etc. where one has better chances to get into Brand Manager profiles (or starting point for such profiles) after MBA!! πŸ˜ƒ If you get an MBA with electives/specialization in Marketing from other institutes, except for maybe few people who have prior relevant work exp or suitable profile or people who get lucky πŸ˜ƒ , mostly people get into Sales profiles from campus.

I disagree slightly with the colleges and the profile of Brand Manager mentioned above πŸ˜ƒ

However, as i suggested earlier to build the profiles is what seems to be one of the possible options and @robin.hood it has nothing to do with what job we are currently in. πŸ˜ƒ

We can do such projects over weekends in a month or two duration as well and there is still time for GDPIs to begin.. such voluntary projects reflect your passion for the stream as well! πŸ˜ƒ

As far as colleges and profiles offered are concerned, we can discuss it later once that stage comes up! :)

one can also look for online certifications in quizzes and case study offered by various web portals like dare2compete.com , just to show interest in specific field if one has an interest

@robin.hood : you can check dare2compete.com which offers various competitions in different domains -- most are for bschoolers and corporates but some are open for all

few days back they asked for entries on an article - " marketing ethics " from all over india .

@visionIIM-ACL Arrey slightly kyun saar, poora hi kar lo!! :mg:

But then how many people have got into core Marketing profile (and not Sales), from the various institutes? Considering the batch size also, I think the proportion would be very less and they can be categorized as the "lucky" people I said. :)

@robin.hood
On a serious note, what I said maybe totally subjective because I'm saying based on what I've heard & seen from different people. It is not backed by any data, placement reports, profiles etc. from any institute. But what I said is very much true for Tier II institutes definitely and vision would also agree to that I believe. πŸ˜ƒ The top 20 institutes are again a class apart and one would need to go through in detail (website, placement report, PG threads and all sources of information) separately about each institute to know better.
hello people,

I'm doing final year MBA, specialising in Finance/Systems. I'm looking out for a job in finance profile, but mite join systems company too when it comes along with a good package.

Everyone writes the NCFM exams, i just wanted to know whether does it add any value to my resume'(i'm a fresher, EEE graduate), i know as such we get to know about the markets better but wanted to know does the certification helps in anyway!!

Donalddric
@donaldric12 Just writing some certification and then putting it in your resume wouldn't help. You should be confident to speak at length about what you've learnt (one can't know everything but at least the basic concepts) & most IMPORTANTLY Be able to articulate well in words about how the certification has helped you and how it will be a value add in the particular job profile you are looking for, because obviously there are 1000's who're taking up NCFM, so you need to show how you're different from the rest.

Thank you so much sir for the valuable advice ! You are extremely right in saying that if one does voluntary projects then it would really reflect his/her passion towards the field ..
