1st Post, Registered on 12th Sept'09 got my books on 20th Sept'09 and have schedule to start studying with FSA from 25th Sept'09 as think will be easy as dealing with related issues on day-to-day basis.

I have a few queries regarding CFA. As suggested i went through the older thread only to find out that it is dated 2006. I am not sure if the CFA registration charges are the same. Kindly update me with the process of registration and the fee.
I am a final year Production engineering student. I wanted to pursue MBA but could not make it through this year. The reason i want to join CFA is to make the maximum out of my MBA. And i guess applying to B schools with a CFA degree in hand would always tilt the balance in my side.
I would like to know the prospects of a CFA degree in itself and how does it help me in my career, That is now when i want to switch to the finance side.

even i got a similar query.I'm in my third year right now and have slowly and steadily starting preparing for it.i plan to write CFA L1 in dec. or at max June 2011(in case i fail in end time prep. due to other commitments at the same time like CAT,SNAP,GMATetc.)...In short i plan to be done with all 3 levels within first 3-4 years of my job so that it help me to get a good b school(aiming for GMAT)...As CFA is globally recognized and accepted hence i just wanted to know,how big a tilt can it provide in my application for a good b school abroad...

i am planning for Dec L1....i had a talk with Laxmi xerox, mumbai....they said they have L1 June 2010 notes without secret sauce....Can i used these notes for Dec exam....Also, if i postponed my plans for June 2011 exam....will these notes is sufficient....

People, please don't fool yourself. CFA is no magic wand. Don't expect an I Bank job after clearing CFA, though clearing all the levels is a herculean task in itself.
Btw how many I bank jobs are available in India ? Thousands of people are enrolling for this designation each year and that leads to over supply of CFAs (Different levels) in the market. Hence, erosion of exclusivity and bargaining power on the part of charterholder.
The best jobs will always go to people from IIMs/IITs. If you want, enroll for the designation for continuous learning and better knowledge.

You are absolutely right.The Indian IT services industry has unnecessarily raised the expectations of the youth.What people fail to understand is that ITES has a huge demand with less stress on skills while the other sectors are still conservative .Do not expect to get as easily into IBs as you got into an IT company. Also do not expect the kind of career growth as you had in IT.The financial sector is very mature and not as easy to get into as IT.

And yes...as far as IB jobs in India are concerned-there are a few,but then they go to the IIM/IIT etc lot.Also these jobs are still not very glamorous.
Just tell me-How are The American and European banks going to offer you front office jobs in India when the major work goes out in the parent countries.
Out here,they outsource major work to their KPO captives like XYZ bank India Pvt Lmt(Knowledge Process Outsourcing-reminds one of BPO) where back office research and middle office reconciliation ,manual EOD data feeds etc take place.Believe me,leaving aside the Equity Research part,the Operations work in India is totally not worth it.I would rather advice people to not join the IBs for such roles.
And yes,If by chance you plan to join the operations divisions of these IBs,keep in mind the fact that you wont be co-relating your CFA studies back there,the work is purely clerical.
One more thing-just be sure of the job profile you looking at.Since nowadays most of the profiles are called analyst profiles(eg: Trade processing analyst,Technical analyst,Business Analyst).Please do not confuse that with 'Equity Research analyst'.

puys ,i am new on this threadso pleae answer my query. i am planning to take my dec 2010 l1 exams-now in order to get a chartered membership we need to have 48 months of work -ex ,how early should this 48 months work ex come after finishing my level 3 ,i mean is there any time limit to get a chartered membership,if yes how much ?
