I am looking for CFA L2, ( June 2012) materials. I am not looking for Schweser or Stella rather original CFA institute materials. When I registered opted for E book version and then Vital Source gave me all the hard time of my life. In two words, it sucks.
Any number of xerox guy or any help will be appreciated.
guys im planning on joining a crash course for CFA L2. 6 days crash course starting april 29 at Khar, Mumbai. it costs Rs.10K and there is a 20% discount for a group5 or more. pl PM me if anyone is interested. Cheers
Finally registered for L2 today! Yeah I know it is late but then I have done it now. I registered after seeing the Schwaser material of a colleague of mine. I think I will be comfortable with some sections while there are some really difficult sections - Derivatives, FRA and Alternative Investments. I plan to read Ethics from CFA books and rest everything from Schwaser. Many people have told me that Schwaser did miss some portion which was tested in the exam. CFA books are always reliable but then I really do not have the time to study from them. So I am taking my chances and relying only on Schwaser. I will try to study on weekdays of an hour and on weekends will have to do a full day marathon! Unfortunately my job is such that I will not be able to devote time everyday but I will try my best to do so.
Few questions: Am I really stupid to register so late? Is it feasible to prepare for L2 is such short time? Any advice will be helpful.

2.5-3 months is more than sufficient if one is studying regularly. So stay focused and motivated, you can crack the exam. As suggested earlier study from Schweser but solve questions from end of the chapters in CFAI books to stay relevant.

Thanks a lot! Well between March and June its going to be Office and CFA only. I will be making a study plan today and start studying from tomorrow. Lets study hard and crack his exam!!
@ saanil Few questions: Am I really stupid to register so late? Is it feasible to prepare for L2 is such short time? Any advice will be helpful.
Let me answer your first question first (since you have asked it and may be waiting for some answer!). Yes and No.
Yes, because firstly, you probably procrastinated too long on whether to go for it or not (even if you did your L1 in Dec '11 as the results were out on 24 Jan.) in particular because it seems you are under severe time constraint due to your job. Registering for such professional exam, for most of us, acts as a trigger for start of preparation and in some cases - specially persons with time constraints (like you) - acts a s a tremendous motivator to "sit down to study" even if for an hour as these are totally, yes totally, self-study programmes , which are pragmatically so different from classroom taught courses . In this case 'time', 'motivation' and 'sustaining the tempo required to score minimum passing scores' are the three most crucial factors for ultimate confidence building before the exam. So, you have lost some 'time' for your delay which could have been helpful for your preparation. Secondly, because, if reading the material lead to some sort of self-analysis and thinking which finally motivated (more like 'provoked'!) you to go for it then the same analysis should have resulted in removing all your doubts regarding your capability to achieve the goal. The decision to register must have been preceded by your realization concerning feasibility ' to prepare for L2 in such short time' and it should not be the other way round. So, by even creating self-doubts with such question you are yourself creating obstacles for your preparation and facing the challenge (which indeed it is, for you at least). So once you have registered, even if the decision is not stupid, your self-doubts are. What have you got to lose? Now whether you appear or not the substantial money you paid to CFAI is gone, you can not use it for any later chance. Obviously, from your statement it is apparent that the money you spent in thousands - more than half a lac- was NOT easy money - it was heard earned - so where is the scope of now doubting the sagacity or wisdom of your action? You have done it, now get ready to prove that you have done right. And NO (you are not really stupid), because when you went through the material of level 2 you may have also realized it is in a sense extension of the level 1 material which you coped with successfully (otherwise you would not have been eligible to register for L2!). Whether you know it or not even by your own planning you have more hours to study than even CFAI says you need to pass any level (that I will show in next para)- so where is the scope of doubting whether you are 'really stup[id' or not just because you registered for Level2. Relax, you are not. In fact you have necessary will to work smartly it would be more stupid not to go for it. Whatever many will tell you, for this level the actual focused study starts only after mid Feb for most (of those who clear). Only requirement is a hard commitment and focused preparation according to planned strategy. Your preparation strategy seems to be ok except for that you WILL have to do all the EOC questions thoroughly (and be confident that you can score >75-80% with them during practice and preparation ) without that Schewser alone in Level 2 may not suffice. Also you will have to as many practice /sample tests as you can in addition to the 2012 Schewser ones, and finally do the CFAI Mocks successfully to be sure that it is indeed "feasible to prepare for L2 is such short time". Now your second question, "Is it feasible to prepare for L2 is such short time?" Hope you know that the CFAI prescription where it states, "Successful candidates report spending an average of 300 hours preparing for each exam. Your preparation time will vary based on your prior education and experience." This is the minimum requirement with sufficient finance background (i.e. it is presumed one has the basic finance topic related knowledge and understanding ) but in reality most will say that 280 to 350 hours is a better statement of requirement with minimal basic knowledge of quant and finance . Now, in your case if you take even 3rd March as starting date, then you have exactly 94 days to appear in CFA Level 2 out of whichyou have 13x2=26 weekend days. So even with your work constraints , at the minimum you have 68+26 days to get ready to meet the challenge. If you can manage a average of 1.5 hours a day on working days (do ensure you squeeze this much at the minimum) and 10 hours a day i.e. 20 hours on every weekend (bit tough but is doable for the sake of your own future) you still have 102+260 i.e 360 hours at the minimum, which is more than enough.Apparently what is a crucial requirement is your dedication and single minded effort, though that does not guarantee you will pass but chances are highly likely that you will get the congratulatory mail from CFAI after the exam. Just a small caveat, the above should in no way lead to a feeling that Level 2 is just like Level 1. No, it is not. Level 2 is much more tougher than Level 1 and without a thorough understanding of the contents it would be difficult to get the passing score. You have already identified the comparatively tougher areas, so start with them. Moreover, in level 2 the vignettes are more challenging in the sense that you never know from where it may be (there has been instances when two of them are from the same page or even same para!) and there lies the importance of the EOC questions and exposure to the CFAI material. .
Finally, what I have said to others like you in some other thread on PG. So plan your strategy well and start today. You need to plan out day to day schedule for the study plan and stick to it, come what may. You will need to forget social networking and diversions like Facebook, parties and outings for these 94 days and ensure you remain focused by giving yourself enough rest during the preparation period. Believe me, it is a small price to pay to get the success you ultimately aiming for - the Charter of CFAI.

Thanks a lot bro! I really appreciate you writing this! It would actually be stupid now to doubt my decision after registering for it. Now what I can do is focus on strategy and stick to it, which is the right thing to do.

Just wanted to know whether you have already started preparing or will be starting from March 14? I am also a late comer and have just started preparing. Just wanted to know how you are preparing given such a short span of time. I have started with Equity from Schweser. After that I am planning to study Alternative Investments from CFA book and then Derivatives. These two topics are my weak spots as I really struggle to understand them quickly. Let me know how you are planning to prepare.

How good are the online video lectures that pristine, finstructor and other such coaching institutions provide. Are they comparable to the actual classroom lectures? and which one would you recommend? Ive also read on this thread about Schweser video lectures. Has anyone used them?
