Hi Puys, Me at last joined the CFA bandwagon and will appear ALPHA in Oct 2006. Would like to know if anyone in Mumbai from PG will appear for ALPHA in July.. It would help in my Preps towards Oct 06. Best of luck for those who would be appearing for July 06.
Welcome Vinit, hope u have a gr8 time learning. And there is a lot to learn as i am learning now:neutral: the workbooks look endless.how are u guys faring?
hey babu, that simply sounds great. But i would like to know from you that did u paid anyhting extra for those CD Roms and e-learning package? as i guess u too have enrolled at the same time when i enrolled that was around march last year. And I suppose we both paid the same fees that is Rs 45,800. Now if there is some discrepancies in the above information please clear my doubts. thanks a lot. Wishes Anand
Anand, i registered in december 05 for April 06 exams. I didnt paid anything extra. CD roms for Level 2 are included in the package but for Cd roms for L 2 and L 3, one needs to pay Rs 4000 extra.
Dispatch them an email. They should have sended CD roms to everyone who are doing L 1.

Yes, the material is huge ! Hope you have got huge Financial management( beta) and management accounting (gamma) workbooks too !
I think that is the beauty of this course i.e it makes you expert in your choosen field of investment research. From L 1-L3, there is simply no topic under finance which is not covered.
You should start with reading a chapter, then try questions given in workbook (First practical and then theoritical). For example in micro start reading demand and supply, understand the concepts and try questions. Workbook helps you to prepare effectively for examinations.
In L 1, out of 12 subjects 10 are done in school/B.com. Financial management is entirely new and FM will give you sound conceptual base for L 2. You have to devote more time for FM.
I have realised 2 points preparing for CFA :
1) Preparation have to be disciplined, well structured with lots of revision.
2) You have to reach to a stage where you can control the paper rather then paper controlling you. It is horrible situation paper controlling you in exam hall and you know it 3 months wasted. You have to make sure that you have done important topics, knows paper pattern and is confident to score atleast 60-65.

Well dreams, from my experience, I can surely tell you that many of my friends who were pursuing CFA alongwith a job had to leave it mid-way or left their jobs to complete the CFA !
However, I would also like to say that it depends a lot on your job function too. If it is demanding, then you better be sure that you wanna get into CFA coz it demands hard work and that too continuously. Now this was a plain vanilla situation of studying alongside a job. If you add the flavour of marriage (as you have mentioned), then the going becomes all the more tough and other factors such as your past educational and professional background, maturity and co-operation from your spouse etc come into play.
If you are already a post-grad with sound fundamentals and have a co-operative partner who understands what you will go through, then maybe you can take a hit at it. However, in that case too there wont be any respite from hard-work.
Bottom line- Better be damn sure of what you are getting into if you want to do CFA alongside a job and marriage, else you will just blow up hard earned money without any tangible return.

Dear Dreams,
I gave my first CFA exams in April 2006 and cleared that. I am finding course tough, but not impossible. Tough will convert to impossible if i have responsibilities like full time job, family responsibilities etc. CFA as a course is challenging. The challenge stems from the deep knowledge required to crack exams and new topics. Even in L 1 where subjects are repeated, you will be surprised to see vast amount of textual and practical knowledge given in textbooks and workbooks.
Tumtum has given very good and wise advice. I also know couple of friends working in IT who are simply stuck in beta because of demanding workhours. They are all talented given their past academic records but the situation becomes different with workload and in your case marriage.
You are allowed to complete the course in 7 years without paying de novo fees. So assuming your job and marriage, even if you give lets say one group in 6 months you will be able to complete the course in less then 7 years. The idea is to stretch out and avoiding pressure cooker type situation which happens while giving exams every 3 months.
Any other questions/doubt, do ask.
Warm Regards.
PS: You are B.com hons and i guess trying for a job in bank. Did you tried BPOs having banking process? GENPACT is one . They have couple of banking and insurance process which are non voice based but i think weird shifts timings might be there.
hi to all CFAs and CFA aspirants! though this is my first post in this thread, this is the thread that i have read word to word. I even noted copied all suggestions posted by TUMTUM and inspiring profiles posted by BABU. Thank you very much to both of you!! I'm going to enrol for CFA (MS Finance) tomorrow for October exams. I'm doing my MBA (2 year) from B grade school located in Chennai, because i could not get into A grade school thanks to my bad English. I was in great despair, thanx to CFA, it relieved all the despair I had. Finance for me is like Football game for Brazilians, in the sense I like the subject the subject so ardently; about expertise time has to tell. I believe that CFA need utmost commitment, diligence, and plan with lots of revision. Above all advices from experienced people (like TUMTUM, BABU, et al). I am taking CFA with great hope. Regards, DORA

All the best for enrollement. Easy process, thanks to hi tech ICFAI. Pick business today latest issue (June 18, 2006) priced at Rs 10. BT have published their third annual listing of India's best equity analyst. Turn to page 116 and on the top you see Pawan Nahar, 30. The guy is working in Kotak securities and tracking healthcare. He is MBA from Nirma instuitute of Management, B-grade school. To be India's best equity analyst figuring in prominent business magazine is incredible. Put 5 years relevant experience on your resume and you will blossom both professionaly and economically.
