Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) from ICFAI_Hyderabad

Tumtum have already solved the query but i want to tell you few good points.
Always look at the 'Broader Picture' merging weakness and strengths in one package and evaluating the whole package. Your post is silent about MS finance positive points. If you are inclined towards recognition part then i will suggest you to go to only delhi university or mumbai university.
Yesterday in times ascent one middle east based arab investment bank posted ad for various analyst/Sr analyst/Risk management profiles. If you study that ad from top to bottom, you will realise the essence of education. They mentioned the job description, job responsibilities and what type of candidate they are looking (Mainly experience) excluding education (Point to be noted ). At the bottom of the ad there was a line added which stated: CA/CFA/FRM/ Graduates/Master in finance or any other relevant qualification (which also means any qualification giving you finance education whether it is PGDM finance or even M.com).
It is all your hardcore experience which matters along with your extra knowledge with education taking a back seat. ICFAI can help you for entry level job. That is why it is called entry level. You enter the corporate arena of you choice (finance) and then it is you and your knowledge and of course soft skills.
Qualification can help you to kickstart your career but can not be substituted for real life time experience.
Cheers,

Babu, you almost stole the words from my mouth !

I definitely agree every bit with what you said.

Regards,

Tumtum.
A black day for all the guys pursuing CFA from ICFAI. CFA Institute has got an interim injunction against ICFAI's use of CFA charter in India and beginning next academic calendar, ICFAI will not have the right to award the designation.

This means that those of you pursuing it will only get the MS (Finance) and not the CFA charter from CCFA.

However, this ruling has only a forward effect and nothing has been mentioned about those who have already got it ( like me).

Well Guys, tumtum is right. They passed the order on Aug 4, 2006. ICFAI have put a stay order but i think CFA US have a very strong case. You still get your main degree i.e MS finance. CFA as usual is always bone of contention.

I have read 41 pages court order and court have mentioned to change name some thing like Chartered Indian Financial Analyst (CIFA) or Indian Financial Analyst (IFA). CFA US mentioned in the court that every country have its analyst program and ICFAI should adopt its own analyst certification program for Indian analyst catering to Indian economy.

The only issue for me is if ICFAI changes its university name, then what new name it will be. If you read 41 pages court order (On CFA US website), the case is very challenging given the fact that certain states have passed legislative laws to register ICFAI as university name. CFA US have to file fresh cases against those states if ICFAI refused to delete CFA from its name and course.

Lets hope for best and dont let your preparation get affected !:)

Hi All,

Can you all please help me ??I am a B.com(computers) graduate from 2005 batch. From last 1 year i am working in an MNC.I am interested in doing CFA from ICFAI,but i dont want to leave my job.i heard of flexible Learning programme by ICFAI,as per the info i got from ICFAI is that u have to attend classes on weekdays and at the completion of CFA u will be getting the same certificate as full time students are getting. Is it true??

Is this CFA for working executives is valuable..is it going to add weightage to my resume??

and is it possible to pursue CFA??coz few of my friends are pursuing Full Time MBA from ICFAI,according to them doing Full Time job and CFA simuntaneously is impossible.

PLease reply back ASAP.

Which MNC you working in and whats your job profile?

MS finance is tough nut to crack with full time job. It might take you upto 3-4 years to finish it completely if you are doing full time job. You should read the whole syllabus in the prospectus and then make out plan. You can do it with job but you need lot of discipline and stretch your targets i.e if you are not prepared to give exam in 3 months, then you should give in 6 month time..

Cheers,

ADP is nice outfit. Which process you in? Must be finance outsourcing.

Are you from commerce background?

Taking classes in evening will help you lot and self study on weekends sounds good.

3-4 hours every day with 80-90% productivity, is a good target ! Hours will not matter much, it will be conceptual knowledge.

I am working in Payroll department and i m from Commerce background.I got application form from ICFAI but that application form is for MS-Finance.Is MS-Finance and CFA is realted to each other.

What is the difference between these two??

Okay..good...Since ICFAI is university, you get a degree..MS Finance.

There are certain trademark issues realting to CFA. May be in future, ICFAI will only handover MS finance and not CFA.

so what do you think..doing CFA is risky?? Shall i join CFA or not??

Arnd 25000 students are enrolled for MS finance/CFA. You surely get MS finance which should be enough for decent entry level investment analysis job. For more details, read UBS (Hyderabad global delivery centre) ad in this month analyst magazine inviting application for analyst/associate positions for high end research process.

Cheers,
Well, I have read the judgment on this controversy and frankly speaking, in my personal opinion, nothing seems to change on ground. The charter by ICFAI MAY be awarded by a different name such as CIFA or AFA (or whatever) once the issue is resolved but there is still some time to go for that. In the meanwhile, my personal advice.....concentrate on finishing MS (Finance) by studying hard.

MS (Finance) continues to be a respected qualification and a trademark issue against ICFAI should do little damage to the reputation of the course which has been built over the past 22 years.

Just remember, no hard work or knowledge gained goes for waste.
MS is a Masters degree and valued highly by employers globally as Babu has pointed out time and again. However, I would like to point out that as perceived by Babu, it is NOT ONLY sufficient to get you an "entry Level" job. Many guys (who have done MS) have ended up in really good profiles or moved on to a really good profile after a year of work experience. So it is better even for your further progression.

So, do not underestimate it my friends.

All the best and enjoy.

Tumtum.

Delhi High Court admits ICFAI's Appeal - Students interests unaffected
The Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India (ICFAI) filed an appeal before the Division Bench of Delhi High Court, against the Order of interim injunction granted by a Single Judge in a suit filed by AIMR.
However the Judge directed that "this order of injunction will not come into effect till the end of current academic session of the CFA Program run by ICFAI. Nor will anything said herein will mean final expression of the opinion of the court." You may find more information by visiting the Icfai Website and click the URL http://www.icfai.org/delhihighcourt.asp.

Myself, MBA working in one of the reputed consultancy firm of India.

I am also pursuing CFA fron ICFAI and will be appearing last Group 9 - Theta in this Oct 06. Just to tell you friends that CFA is one of the best course in financial world (of course there are Other respectful courses like CFA AIMR, GARP)

Clearing CFA (ICFAI) , not only required indepth application of knowledge but also hard working and keeping oneselt abreast to current happening to indian financial world.

I also like others came to know that CFA name is gng to be change in coming future, but believe me friends , CFA has come a long way and industry like (Banks , both PSUs and Private, KPO) give good respect to CFA pass out.

Friends, request all concentrate all your efforts on clearing CFA papers, rather than asking questions or doubting the credentials about CFA, as it will result in nothing.

I wouls also like to thanks Babu, Tumtum and others members for keping up the spirit of CFA and enjoying learning from the course and sharing materials with each others.

I wouls also like to know if anyone is going to appear for Theta, or if some one can arrange for FCS papers.

Regards
P.S. babu/TUMTUM can have your PM Ids

Pls ignore spell mistake and cosmectic errors in my above mail "as this was written in Jet Speed."

But till where i know,ICFAI is not providing CFA ,at the end of the course students will be given MS(finance) certificate instead of CFA.For CFA again we need to appear for the exam after completing MS(finance).

Even i m planning to pursue CFA from ICFAI,but this is where i got stuck.
