Speed post would be ideal. But if you feel there's not much time left, you can send it through courier too.

I can't say for sure whether he/she will get a call for sure. Because apart from your rank you are also judged on your complete academics, extra curriculars, personality, communication, performance in GT/PI, rank, the essay and finally also on the ranks of others who apply, in no particular order.
It would be difficult to tell the last rank for the SC category who got a call for GT/PI as the institute wouldn't like to reveal such important data. However, the last person to get in last year for this category was around 9k. So you can ask him/her to apply along with a convincing essay. All the best to your friend.
Detailed semester level marksheets would be required. Please get them attested and send them with the application form. I would suggest so because the faculty would want to know the specifics of your marks, course and subject details.
1. We are not sure about the exact numbers. Moreover, the dept office would term this information as privileged. However, the conversion ratio for each seat is around 1:8.
2. We have 62 students in the current batch.
3. The word limit for the SOP is 500 word. This information is already present in the form at our website.
4. We have 12 freshers in the 2007-09 batch.
Right now you can submit your appointment letter along with the latest pay slip. However, you must also submit a note undertaking responsibility to bring along your work experience certificate when you appear for GT/PI, if you are shortlisted. The work experience certificate becomes important because the authorities at IIT Madras need to ensure that they are interviewing and letting in people with genuine credentials.
Yes, because that would help the committee of professors here know that you have been employed with X company since so and so date, till the present date. But as said above, you must also submit a note undertaking responsibility to bring along your work experience certificate when you appear for GT/PI, if you are shortlisted.

You have to send some sort of proof for the work experience you mention in the application. So if you have sent your appointment letter and/or experience certificate you should be fine. It is advisable to include a copy of your last salary slip with appointment letter, because an appointment letter might tell us the starting date of your employment but would not tell us the duration of your employment.

You have decent chances of getting a call. Please remember that a GD/PI call would depend on lot of other factors (academic background, work ex, extra curr., work ex etc) apart from the JMET rank. Send in a very good SOP, it would surely add to your chances.

You can handover your application at the Department office at DoMS. As you have already read in the GC post, GC is a very famous landmark in IIT and would not be difficult to locate. DoMS is located very close to GC. As far as the office timings are concerned, peple are generaly there between 10 am to 5 pm on week days.
mindtalks SaysSeniors... plz provide us the GD/PI links of yesteryears.........

Class means the class mentioned in your degree/marksheets say First Class, Distinction etc.
Hi..
Just had a question with resp. to the experience letter.. I have an increment letter from company dtd 29-Nov-2007 and had a hard copy which i xeroxed and have attested it from a gazzetted officer. The salary slip which we get is through email and we dont have any original for it.. so the gazzetted officer is not ready to attest it since there is no original. Can we send the latest printed salary slip i.e. Dec 2007 without attestation and the attested increment letter and appointment letter to give a fair idea about the employment?
Awaiting reply,
Thanks,
Apekshit.

Yes you can send the printout of your latest salary slip without attestation. But along with your increment letter and the salary slip do send your appointment letter, which tells us when you joined and also a note saying that, if shortlisted, you will bring along a genuine work experience certificate at the time of GT/PI.

Here are the things that should accompany the application form:
1. DD for Rs.500/- for GN, Rs.250/- for SC/ST/PH, Rs.800/- for Sponsored candidates and US $100/- for FN/NRI drawn in favour of "The Registrar, IIT Madras" and payable at Chennai.
2. Attested copies of 10th, 12th stds along with detailed mark sheets of all semesters/years; and those of your appointment letter and work experience letter (in case you are not able to submit an official work experience letter, in lieu of it submit your latest salary slip and attach a note that says that you will appear with a credible and genuine work experience certificate when you appear for GT/PI and sign it)
3. Duly attested photograph on the application form.
4. An essay stating your reasons for seeking admission into the IIT
Madras MBA programme, and any other information that will be useful to support your case for admission. Specific examples or descriptions of situations, with supporting evidence, would be helpful.
Fill in all details accurately. Incomplete forms will be rejected. Also, do not staple the application form. Use gem clips. Do not fold the application. Send it in A4 or larger sized cover. It should reach DoMS by speed post or courier on or before 28th Jan 2008.
Can anyone tell me d details abt gd/pi...

Can anyone tell me d details abt gd/pi...

Generally IIT M conducts Group Task (GT) instead of a gd. In a GT the group is given a task and assigned a role. You are supposed to act as a team and try to propose solutions. For example you would be told that you are IAS officers in some state and need to device strategies to encourage investment. Here you have to work as a team with the rest of the group mates. Your knowledge, leadership skills, team work, communication skills etc will be evaluated during the GT.
PI is generally not stress. Its very general and non technical. Questions would be directed towards your work ex or general questions like ambitions or reason for pursuing MBA etc and some questions on general knowledge. If you are a fresher some academic questions can be expected.
We would write more about the GT/PI process and also post our and our classmates experiences as soon as the calls for the same are out.

Ashish,
As you already know chances are extremely slim at a rank of 2707. It seems highly unlikely that you would get a call from IIT M. But having said that, we have already mentioned earlier that a call would depend on a lot of other factors like your academic background, SOP, work ex, extra curr. etc. So my advice to you would be that if money is not an issue, you should go ahead and apply because if tomorrow you would find some1 with a lower rank get a call it would hurt. So give it your best shot with a great SOP and make your profile look as good as possible and hope for the best.
But again dont raise your hopes too high, I would again say that chances of a call are very very slim.
