I have 4+ years of experience in Chemical Industry. Having a chemical Engg background ( 77.1%). I have scored 95.03 percentile in CAT-12. I am confused whether I should go for the full time MBA or an executive MBA. Can you please help. Also can you please let me know, what are the best colleges as per rank for Ex-MBA in India that I can avail with my score and job experience. The help will be really appreciated. Thanks
for all the confused lot who are still calling the one year MBA an executive mba, Blurred Vision IIM included - read this story in business standard and hopefully change the thread name too. The one-year MBA is the only MBA as approved by the Association of MBA's UK. The two-year PGP is a non-MBA wolrdwide. have a good read.
@radhikabedrath You think I'm confused? I never said the one year MBA is an Executive MBA! Read back, all I said is in India the programs are named so that people are confused and hence this thread serves the purpose for both (although there are separate threads for the respective institutes' 1yr programmes!! I'm only being intelligent in trying not to change the mindset of 2lakh+ people since I'm anyways not going to do a 1yr MBA course, the so called "Executive MBA" or "MBA for Executives" or whatever anyone wants to call it, in India. By the way you seriously think people with 5+ years of experience are even bothered what the course is called??!!! I guess the MBA tag and the institute name like IIM, XLRI etc. does enough and more for them!! :mg:
Appreciate your efforts, and wish you all the best in changing this mindset!! :cheerio:
@ajaygovindg oops, your name got included by mistake. and yes, the name of the course does bother many. I guess that is why the article exists? anyway, i am pretty shocked at this whole non-MBA certification for the traditional 2 year. whats up with this?
@radhikabedrath Well, outside India they say they would of course say so, because it is not approved by them. Their standards and guidelines are different and ours in India is different. Imagine someone who has a 1yr MBA from outside India (other than from those ivy league ones) - Firstly he/she would not be trying for any job posting in India, secondly even if he/she tries do you think something worth is available which would consider that as an MBA (other than in the MNC's which have worldwide presence)?!! So its all about who "certifies" it as an MBA!!! From an Indian perspective, a developing country, MBA is for freshers also and UGC/AICTE approves of the 2 year programs, whereas outside India it is not so!
but thats like laloo yadav certifying a GE engine as 'its working'. The MBA originated in the west and they wrote the rulebook on it too.@ajaygovindg
Like I said earlier, for people with 5+ years work exp, who are just looking for better salary or higher position in an organization, they're least bothered who started it!! 😃 Where they get it or where they perceive they'll get it they go!!
I think its better to continue this one-to-one discussion over PM, and not here, as it is totally deviating from the objective of the thread! :)

Firstly by Executive MBA do you mean the full time 1 year program or the 3 year part-time program? If it is the former then the term "Executive MBA" is incorrect as it is like any other MBA program just that its for 1 year only. But if latter then it is correct!!
Anyways, if you're looking to move out of the industry then Executive MBA will not help much. The 1 year programs will be helpful but then fees is also high for those programmes. Hope you have seen the list 1-2 pages behind in this same thread? If you're looking to do 1 year programs then only ISB, Great Lakes, Praxis, SOIL etc. in that list consider less than 5 year work exp!!
Hi, Need some suggestions from you which would be very helpful as im little confused regarding MBA/role change/1 year full time Executive MBA
1. I am having 2+ years of exp in Data warehousing & working as a developer in a finance project in one of the MNC (IT). I want to move into BA role/Consultant/Analytics domain as i have a lot of interest to work in those roles/Analytics domain.
Appeared for CAT for the 1st time, scored 82.XX which is way too poor to get into any good B school. XAT score is 78.XX. So should i continue preparing for CAT & other exams as from what i have seen, people who are working as a BA/Consultant are mostly MBA graduates & they are allowed/eligible to enter into Analytics.
2. Do you have any idea regarding certificate/executive programs in Analytics conduted by IIM B,L,C. If yes how beneficial would that be for one's profile without opting for 2 year MBA if a role change to BA within my organization is permitted & then to back it up with 1 year full time Executive MBA.
3. Does any company provide openings for 2+ years exp for a BA & will i be eligible for that role as basically im from development though i know BA's role as basically my work area involves a lot of interaction with the BA's.

1. You need not necessarily have an MBA to move into such roles. I know people who have moved into such roles without MBA. But yes you'll need to have the required knowledge in Analytics to clear the interviews.
2. NO I don't have idea about Certificate programs at IIMs. But I have heard of an Analytics program at Praxis Business School. Do some further research on it if you're thinking of applying.
3. Its not about eligibility. If you have the required knowledge/skillset and you can prove it in your interviews you can get such roles. But if you're looking for some formal education to build those skills and then get into Analytics then you can think of the certificate programs and then yes maybe after some time do an Executive MBA to go up the ladder. With a general MBA you need not necessarily get Analytics profiles in campus placements. You may get the designation of Business Analyst/Consultant, but it will not be Analytics. And even otherwise the designation is so misused these days that you have to very careful these days and understand what the work involves day-in-day-out before taking it up.

I understand that the forum is for discussion about 'Executive' programs. But, I feel there are few who may be looking for short term courses. Being a new program, many are not aware about the program offered by Praxis.
Thus I am posting this.
Praxis Business School with knowledge partners PwC and ICICI Bank offers a 1 year Post Graduate Program in Business Analytics. There would be 9 months of classroom training with 3 months of industry internships and then the final placements.
The course is co-created and co-created with the industry. Apart from the partners, companies like Fidelity, Target India, Bridge i2i, Persistent and ITC Infotech have recruited students for Finals and summers. You may connect with our students on the official query thread here:
Hi! I work in Chennai. I have 5 years experience. I have decided to pursue executive mba this year -1 year is all I have got! Please suggest me some part time or distance or e-learning E-mba that I would be able to do from Chennai! Thank!
Hi, Just wanted to get some ideas, whether doing a one year PGP from IIMs/ISB etc after an MBA degree from IMT, Ghaziabad is advisable? Just completed my MBA 2 years back, worked for 1 year and now contemplating this option. Would these institutes consider me a good fit if i manage a good GMAT score?
I am B.E (Electrical) from Delhi College of Engineering, passed out in the year 2008. Since then I am working in IRCON INTERNATIONAL LIMITED (Infrastructure dev. PSU of Railways) as Asstt Manager and then Deputy Manager. My current CTC is approx. 10 LPA. I wish to know shall I go for an Executive MBA or not and from where an in which stream? Whether I will be able to get good placements post Exec. MBA?
@OUTLIER123 With 5 years of work exp why dont you try for the full time 1yr programmes at IIMs, ISB etc. They'll have more brand value than any other. You'll have to take GMAT for it (which is the same for IMT also I think). So again assuming you have a GMAT score why not those ivy league ones?
Not that IMT programme is bad. Your acads are decent and your work exp is in IT or core domain?
