Can someone tell me if Sikkim Manipal is a genuine university. I hope it isn't fake. Is it really approved by UGC? Sikkim Manipal University claim to be UGC approved but then when I checked UGC website I couldn't found its name anywhere under the list of ugc approved universities but in one page I was surprised to see that UGC has put the name of Sikkim manipal university in the public notice about private universities. Why have the UGC put its name under public notice under which they mentioned the following :
"It has come to the notice of the University Grants Commission that some of the State Private Universities have affiliated colleges and started off-campus centre(s) in violation of the UGC (Establishment of and Maintenance of Standards in Private Universities) Regulation, 2003 and against the judgment of Honble Supreme Court in case of Prof. Yash Pal & Others vs. State of Chhattisgarh & Others. Some of these Universities are running these Centres on franchising basis also which is not allowed."

if you are going for 1 year executive program do it only from SP JAIN, GLIM or IIM(old ones) otherwise go for two year programs.mba core of nmims is better

Take a wise decision after considering ur preferences.Till nw i hv come to know about few cases of non placement evn from SP Jain,GLIM etc.1 yr executive MBA saves 1 precious yr of learning and earning but its completely a different ball game. Choose wisely.

dont expect to change your functional role from an exec-mba.its better to continue in the same functional area.though u can definitely expect a break through to a higher level of management.people who are very choosy about their functional area or domain and industry finds difficulty in placement.
if u want to try out something very different from what you where in earlier job.two year MBA program is the best choice.
Puys... M new to PG. I am interested in pursuing executive MBA from India. Can you please list best colleges in the league...
Thanks in advance...!:)
Hi Puys,
I have total 7 years of experience in IT industry. I wish to pursue MBA(executive) in future do not want to be completely away from technical stuff . I mean, I love coding, designing etc but still want to learn how top management works I mean billing ,budgeting etc. I know its strange and you may be thinking when I like the programming why I want to go for MBA or why I am not trying for MS or M Tech. Actually after spending 7 years in IT industry I do not wish to start from scratch.I may get the current profile or manager role after M Tech etc but it would not very beneficial because sooner or later I can get there by my B.Tech degree and by experience or performance . I wish to get into a profile where I will not only have opportunity to look into code but I will be responsible to take key management related decisions . Something kind of 40-60 or vice-versa profile.I also know the kind of profile I am talking about can be achieved by becoming Development manager in product company but that will not take me far in future.I know one cannot be coder for whole life but still want to be that for at least 9-10 years more.
In nutshell , I want to have MBA degree but not cost of something(except money :)). So please tell me if such profile after MBA exists or not.Is there any company which comes for placement for this kind of role in IT ?.I am not the one who wants MBA to be CEO one day or get high salary . I just want to keep my interest alive, strengthen my profile and yet grow. I know many guys who were engineers did MBA after 2-3 year of experience and now want to move back to Technical role.

In collaboration with CIMA, IGNOU is offering an MBA in management accounting and finance along with the CIMA advanced diploma in management accounting.
The program is 2 year distance learning,
Pros are:-
CIMA is internationally recognised
Distance learning (I am working professional hence good for me)
Cons :-
Last years brochure said it was AICTE recognised / This year it doesnt say AICTE recognised
Fees are around 1.65 Lac (1300 Pounds + 55000 Rupees)
Thus please advise if this MBA is worth doing ???
Also advise any other Distance or Weekend MBAs that are worth doing in Finance in Mumbai
Regards,
Vicky
Let me suggest something lateral.
If you are interested in coding and are a math oriented person - would you like to try to be a quant... Quant would be a person who does financial coding and product manufacturing. You might not be involved in high level decisions but you would be required to understand and implement finance a lot.
Basically I am suggesting a Masters in Financial Engineering or CQF instead of MBA.
Have a look at the links below... ask around or post here... the salary is stupendous and finance / coder combination people find this profession to be a true heaven.
Certificate in Quantitative Finance |
Master of Financial Engineering Program - Haas School of Business, University of California Berkeley
Master of Quantitative Finance - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
