That was the list of some great schools. Mine included as well. It always feels proud to be in a coveted list. Anyway, not sure whatever happened to the mighty Symbiosis. Perhaps it was more of a marketer just like Amity. I have also heard that Symbi was declared fraud like Rai University. Is that true?

Cannot comment on Symbi, but the list only includes names of institutes which teach 1 yr Executive MBA. Symbi doesnt have 1 yr EMBA as its course.

Let us not get into that, rather tell us something about SOIL because I am sure very less people know it.

i need to ask one query .. can anyone tell .. it is how much safe .. to do exec mba.. i mean in the sense of placement..

Hi everyone.

I'm a CA working with a Big4 (1.5 years now) .. Considering studying again and planning to give CAT this year.

Outside of that, I'm also trying to gather information about Executive MBA too.

I understand IIM-A has a minimum 27 years of age criteria. Does other IIMs have this criteria too?

About XLRI and ISB, are they as good as IIM-A? (in terms of placements) Any eligibility criteria there? I see average age of participants at ISB's PGPMAX is 40 years :/ ..

Hi aashish,
CA MBA makes a very good career option, but you should not be looking at Exec MBA from IIM A,B,C,L,I or XL but ISB because

- i personally feel Exec MBA should be done after good years of workex at least 5 years, even you look at their average years workex of their current batch its close to 10 (except XL).
- ISB has an MBA program for executives with workex >2 years and their average is also consistently kept at 5 years.
-PGPMAX is for senior executives and not a full time program
-ISB makes most sense for you.

I am an HR professional having 3.6 years of experience in recruitment and corporate HR.

My qualification is just a plain B.com. Please help me selecting a course from the below option:

Welingkar - PGDHRM 2 years (Distance)
IMT G - PGDHRM 1 year (Distance)
Symbiosis CDL - 1 year or 2 years PGDHRM (Distance)
SIES - EMBA (18months)

Suggestions other than the above course are welcome..
Please help

Thanks

Hi Caterpilar. Thanks for your insight! 😃

I understand that average experience for executive MBA for any reputed B-school would demand 5 yrs+ experience. But looking at the work pressure, I'm not 100% confident of cracking CAT or the MBA program at ISB. Due to tough competition, it becomes all the more imperative for me to keep my options open.

PGPX at IIMA does look apt in my scenario but the age bar makes me ineligible.

I gave CAT last year and returned with 72 something. Today, after an year, I'm again unprepared for CAT '12. My bad though!

Have started preparing now, let's see if it works out! Else CAT '13. I've GMAT in my mind too! Time to get serious. Thanks again! :)
Hi,
I am aspiring to join a top ranking institute for a 1 yr executive PGP in the batch of 2013. I am looking at joining only if I get through into any of the following institutes,
IIM-A
IIM-B
ISB
IIM-C
IIM-I
XLRI

I am currently having 9.2 yrs of exp and will have 9yr and 11 month if I continue to work till March'12.

Currently Desg: Regional Sales Manager at American Express
Exp in current company: 4.4 yrs as on date
Role: Channel Head - New Account acquisition of Consumer card customers for Chennai region(successor of a person who was the president of ISB 2006 batch in this role)
Some achievements:
Cricket captain for the company's regional team and also an active divisional player
Youngest Channel Head ever since the inception of the business unit
Have done a lot of work for tsunami Victims' families' up-liftment via State govmt projects
Have been the core trainer for over 23 corporate training programs in my previous company- NIS Sparta( Asia's largest corporate training company)
Have trained a batch of 16 people from General Motors, designated state heads and above as my first training program with a participant satisfaction of 87%.
Awarded 'turn around King' title during annual company awards function by the president and CEO Amex for the region's sales performance in 2011 after my promotion from Channel manager to Channel head.

Have been preparing for over a month and my last 2 scores are 640 and 650 on mock GMAT tests, looking to book a date in the first week of August and I am positive of scoring 680 or above on the real test.

I might be promoted by January(855 chances) to a Zonal Manager level in the company ( next level to Director). I am currently earning 13.5 lacs and with the promotion might go to 18 lacs+.

Can someone care to discuss my decision to take a break and go back to academics?

Will I be able to see the change in CTC ( 1.7 - 2.5 times) like the institutes claim if I were to finish the course in any of these institutes?

Will it be too high an opportunity cost?

Considering the last date of submission of application for IIM-A is 10 August, should I book a date before the 6th of August which might give me 4 dates to invest in my application filing process?

Hi @ @[491949:aashish2137] CAT should not be your target since all these institute do not accept CAT score except IIM I, IIM A's average work ex is around 10 years, average age 32+ and if you can make it there with 2-3 years experience (which is technically possible) it will be not only an exception but a record too!
Rest have stringent criteria of 5 years so technically you can't apply to them w/o 5 years of experience ... the only institute which can accept you with 2 years of exp. and realistically possible is ISB.

Hi @[590518:venkatdonthi]

a) GMAT should be taken around 15 days prior to last date as per GMAC
b) With your profile MBA do not make much sense unless it is from IIMA or ISB
c) If you are really desperate to do an MBA IIM B and IIM C can be considered. (but since you are talking about opportunity cost i don't think you are!)
d) Opportunity cost is very high and markets are not good either so be careful.
e) Change in CTC for you should remain on the lower side of 1.7-2.5
f) In current times i do not subscribe to the thought doing an Exec MBA for those who are doing in well in their career
g) Above views are personal, do verify them

Thanks Caterpilar! Well said and point taken into consideration..

One more question, does one need the official score report (with AWA and IR score) to fill any institute's application?
