Your location says Lucknow and there's no Alliance Francaise there, which would have been the best.

Try The French Tutorial, Learn French for free - What is the Personal Edition?

Although this is a good start, it won't be the full solution. The best thing would be to find a teacher in Lucknow who takes private classes.

One word of advice - don't learn French by translating words to English. It will completely spoil your learning and you will never be able to converse fluently. Learn from a teacher who teaches using gestures and try to see as many French movies as you can. But avoid the translation method of learning under any cost.

Cheers,

I'm getting enrolled for a German course at Max Muller ..:-).. might even consider JNU.. which is closer to home and not to mention cheaper..:D

I have done German in school.. even gave my Class X German Boards.. But they don't really teach much in school, just enough to pass the exams :-(... But I suppose it would be a bit of an advantange when I start again..

Try to learn it myself a while back.. Downloaded everything I could get my hands on from esnips, torrents, emule etc.. requires a lot of patience if you try to learn yourself :-|..

Auf Wiedersehen..

Can anyone say till what level we should study a language before putting it on our CV's? Do we have to pass exams on these languages, or simply learning them for fun is good enough? Right now I'm learning Japanese on my own, and enjoying it like hell. I've been studying for two months, and have breezed through one of the introductory books( a pretty easy one, I admit). I've started with Teach Yourself Japanese, from the Teach yourself Series(some of you might be familiar with this series). I suppose I do have an advantage, seeing as I spent 3 years of my childhood in Japan, and so am quite familiar with the langauage. I'm good enough to understand fragments of whatever Anime it is enough that I keep watching. So can anyone advise me about what level its safe to reach before puting it on the CV?

Well kudos - Japaneses is a tough language. Whether you want to put in on your CV is based on basically two things:

  1. Do you want to pass it off as value addition to your job.
  2. Do you want it to show on your resume.

If you want to add it as something you bring to a job, then you must have a certificate to prove it. My friend did a certification course and reached the third level which is business Japanese. You need a 60% score in each level to pass. After getting said certificate, he managed to land a really good job in Japan.

Now, if you want to show it on your resume by all means add it. But do remember that without a certificate to back it - it would have to be as extracurricular or hobbies.

The golden rule being - the moment you show something as value addition be ready to back it up with a certificate (intangible traits excluded )

Cheers.

hey does anyone know where i can learn german(level 2) in bangalore other than max muller bhanav...
i am done with level one but dont want to spend another 8-10k at max muller...
any ther cheaper options in namma bengaluru..

well... according to me... its based upon which type of Industry you are targeting for your future/ career...

Like German and Japanese are considered mainly for engineers... specially who are into Automobile sector they learn any of the these languages...

Similarly, French and Spanish are considered mainly for tourism & hotel industry, fashion & textiles etc...

Please add to it... for other languages...

I short listed Japanese... because its interesting and toughest to learn...

I'm interested in learning French and Spanish. I also want certificates for them. Please suggest some good schools in and around delhi.

There should be an Alliance Francaise branch in delhi too. Check that out. Inarguably the best place to learn french. I have done two levels from Ahmedabad and Bombay.

Check this out

That's interesting.what are the other sectors for which u think learning foreign languages would prove useful?

HI puys,

Could somebody guide me that when do they induct people vis-a-vis Alliance Francaise, delhi chapter. Was wondering whether they keep on making a new batch as and when they have the required numbers.

Also, the difference one feels when u have an 1 hour lecture each weekday for 4 consecutive days or 2 hours each class on the weekends.

I have mailed to them , but didn't get any reply, hoping a response from you guys.

;)

I've been planning to learn Spanish for a really long time now. Should I go in for a course with Mumbai University (if there is) or the one with Instituto Hispania?

I also know basic Turkish as I was there in Turkey for like 6 months. Does that help? *just keeping some hope*

Regards,
Perseus
