plz do tell me about it?
@sb29 thanks for that information. i just wanna ask that the profile which i sent u of mine..is it sufficiently good enough to get admissions in CAF or to apply as a research associate.
@caayush I have no idea. You need to apply to find out whether they take you or not. Also, do check on the requirement for masters degree in foreign universities.

Applied to the FPM in Strategy at ISB ! (Was initially planning on Operations but both me and my SOP reviewers felt that my SOP showed more of an interest towards strategy).
Wish me luck, people ! and all the best to all of you for your applications.
@horsehead said:Hello everyone...I am presently an assistant professor (economics and finance) for the past one semester at a B-school 'that happened to have mushroomed on the side of National Highway" in NCR region . I have 1 yr of work experience in Fixed Income Derivatives Trading at a proprietary trading firm prior to joining as a faculty. There I developed an interest in Fixed Income Analytics and intend to explore this area further. I have Btech Background with MBA in Finance from a state university. I have done undergraduate dissertations from CSIR and All India Institute of Medical Sciences and MBA dissertation from a NSE listed firm.I have been exploring faculty profiles at IIMs and IITs but I have not come across any faculty who are specifically working in Fixed Income Area, though a couple of them at IIM B come close but they are in allied areas . I appeared in CAT but quant section has been a royal screw up. Though I am pretty good in Calculus and Statistics stuff due to my Btech background but lack of 9th/10th level maths practice did me in during CAT. My Math score on Btech and MBA gradesheets are all 75%+. I have some specific queries.Q1. Can my Math scores offset the poor Quant section in CAT? Or should I avoid mentioning any CAT stuff and apply to IIM B without any score? Q2. My recommendation letters are not from my MBA faculty but from faculty who previously recommended me at AIIMS and CSIR, one of them took my interview (happened to be my father's friend ) Is it necessary to have recommendation letters from MBA faculty members? Q3. This is a diversion from this thread as it pertains only to Indian PhD/FPM discussions, but i have not found any help anywhere else. I have also explored the option of pursuing PhD from abroad, but after perusing a lot of info on the web I found that Math prerequisites for a Finance PhD abroad is killing. They won't even consider the application (GRE/GMAT score notwithstanding) unless there are some math courses on our gradesheets that are generally taught in Msc Maths/Stats/Econometrics courses under Indian education system. Has anyone who has tried to apply abroad in Finance/Econ area faced such problems and circumvented it? A friend of mine suggested GRE subject test in Mathematics to offset the disadvantage to some extent? How advantageous is that? Any pointers from seniors would be helpful.Sorry for the long post
Any pointers from the experienced junta??

@ankur_ibelieve Hi...i have just the certified copy of result of JRF and marksheet but not final hard copy of certificate. Even though i had sent the FPM form, and yet not received any notification on email from IIM for rejection of it...
Any idea to you????

@dd2013 said:@sayanddude how was ur written test/intervew exp at SJMSOM? mind sharing here for the benefit of everyone?
Hi,
The complete process at SJMSOM was smooth. The only glitches were the delay in declaring the written test results and the long wait before the interview

This time (i.e. for the spring semester) SJMSOM gave calls to around 204 candidates and the turnout was definitely 150+

The whole process comprised two steps- written test (Elimination round) and the interview.
The written test was a simple aptitude test comprising four sections viz. quant, verbal, di and lr. Each sections had 10 questions and the test was for 1 hr. Moreover, there was negative marking and sectional cut offs. It started at 9 am sharp.
After the test there was a presentation on the phd programme at SJMSOM taken by Mukundan sir. And then there was a lengthy procedure for travel reimbursement.
The written test results were declared at around 2 pm. And they shortlisted only 20 candidates
. Fortunately, I was one of them

But this left many candidates agitated and they demanded to know the cut offs. It seems the sectional cut offs were quite high.
Anyways, after that there was a long 4 hr wait for my turn 😞 since I was called last in my panel thanks to my application id (Actually, the 20 candidates were divided into 3 panels w.r.t their specializations and they were arranged serially w.r.t the application id). I applied for the 'operations' specialization and there were around 5 candidates in my panel.
The panel comprised of 4 faculty member. First, there were a few general questions, why phd?, why now i.e. after Btech?, Why leave corporate and a decent pay?, why you want to do research in analytics when u already are in that profile?,etc. I was able to answer all these to my satisfaction and I think they were convinced.
But then came the thunder, one faculty was not at all impressed with my research proposal and started questioning on it. I think this is where my inexperience in writing research papers was exposed. I tried to defend but in vain. And he clearly told me that I should have done my homework 😞 Then he changed the topic and started questioning on my work and the projects I have worked on. Then he asked a few technical questions related to my field, what is odds ratio, logistic regression and its applications, linear regression, logit, etc and I was able to answer all of it. And finally there was some positive comment from his side :)
Then another faculty asked me if I have read any research papers by one of SJMSOM`s faculty. Thankfully, I did and then there was a long discussion on that paper. Overall, my interview lasted 40 mins- in the first 20 mins I was badly screwed but the 2nd half was good.
Anyways, it was my first interview for phd/fpm and it was a good learning experience. I need to work on my research proposal so that this kinda thing don`t repeat esp. during the IIM interviews.
Hope this long post of mine would be of some use
. ATB!!!

Thanks a ton, that was very informative. I skipped IIT -B. Will apply for July session.
Any news on IIT-D guys? When will they wake up from their hibernation?
@sayanddude thanks for the informative post. it will be really helpful for people who would attend such interviews in the future.
do not be bothered by the incident of one faculty member not liking your research proposal. during your phd studies you will come across roadblocks where you will find that the route you had planned to follow is taking you to a deadend and you are not making nay progress in your research. then you have to figure out alternate routes/possibilities/directions in which you have to take your research. when you will write your dissertation, you will also need to do lots of iterations/edits before getting the final draft ready and getting it approved by your guide. the questioning (and the apparent negativity) by the faculty member was propably to test if you are mentally tough to face and overcome such challenges. it only shows his huge experience in the field and you should not be concerned about the validity of your proposal (it will, most probably, be modified when you start your research anyways 😁 ). believe me, many interviewees don't even get to this stage where his/her proposal is challenged by an interviewer and he/she gets to defend it. you are lucky and i hope you would convert this call.

Hello people,Need help on the foll topics:
1. I am considering a PhD from universities abroad. Is there any relevant forum on PG which discusses this, if yes could someone point me to it? Would be really helpful.
2. Also I saw somewhere in this thread a debate on how getting a PhD from abroad (from a good uni) is really difficult as compared to top institutes from India like IIMs and ISB. Could someone elaborate on the reason why.
Also wanted to thank all the seniors here for your time and feedback. Its invaluable information for someone starting off the thought process of getting a PhD.
Regards,
Abhishek

@the.oracle 1) You can post your query here or PM me
2) It is difficult because universities abroad look for a high GMAT score, a good masters degree is preferred and a good profile is mandatory. Also, the salaries for Asst Professors is very high abroad as compared to India. So, there is a huge competition for PhD programs.
Hi all!
I have applied for FPM at IIM-A.
Has any body got any acknowledgement from FPM office of IIM-A .
