@ankur_ibelieve ..I recently received rejection email from IIM A as my JRF letter has not come. But than i call to IIM L and IIM Indore they said they allow me if i get JRF Certificate before interview. Do you have any idea for this? Plz help me... Thanks
@Anisen I got rejection acknolodgement from IIM A as i have not attached JRF Certificate as its not issued by UGC...All the best to you...I have also applied to IIM Indore but i have not got the acknolodgement still...any idea to you about it?..IIM Indore???
@Anisen I received acknowledgment on 22 Nov, but my friend got his rejection letter much earlier. @Muneza Well, if they say it then you should apply. Their interview process starts late in March, so by then you should be able to get JRF award certificate.
Hi all!I have applied for FPM at IIM-A.Has any body got any acknowledgement from FPM office of IIM-A .Regards,Anirban Sengupta,Symbiosis School of Banking Management.
Yup got an acknowledgement letter from them on 5th nov....
btw IIMA is very stringent about its policies... I almost got a rejection letter... the thing is I sent them my GMAT retake scores with the unofficial copy (since I hadn`t got the official score card yet).. thankfully I dropped a mail to the fpm admission office regd. this and they clearly told me that they won`t accept gmat/gre scores without the official copy... so had to send the official score card of my prev attempt
Job experience: Total 3+ years of experience in Oil & Gas Industry. Presently I am working as a Drilling Fluid Engineer in ONGC, INDIA from May'2009. My job profile includes Oil Well Drilling Fluid related management (including chemicals and man power management/arrangement.) There was an approximately 2.5 years gap between my MSc degree and job from year 2006 to 2009 (since I was preparing for competitive exams)
I would like to enquire about:
·Is my profile suitable to be called for FPM programe from IIM's? ·If yes please suggest about the specializations I can opt for. ·If you can give me an idea whether FPM or regular PGP programe would be better for me?
@pandit21 The discussions about FPM on PG have been very active for the past few years. You should go through those threads first to have an overall idea of what the program is all about. The previous years' threads are available here:
About the suitability of your profile, you should check the eligibility criteria for application with the respective institutes (the criteria are readily available on the institutes' websites and are more or less similar). If your profile is suitable to be 'called' (for interviews, i guess) is a totally different issue. If you go through the previous threads, you will have an idea of the kinds of profiles who have been called for interviews and who have been offered admission in the past. People who participate on this forum are applicants/potential applicants/current FPM students and none of us can predict if anybody would be called for interviews since that decision depends on the institutes' intake capacity and associated policies. But as some seniors have repeatedly mentioned in previous threads, if you do not apply, you will never know. So, if you are serious about FPM, you should go ahead and apply.
Your specialization should depend on your background and interests and you should be able to justify this on your statement of purpose.
Your last question is a little confusing. It sounds like you are considering FPM as an alternative to PGP, which it is, in no way. FPM consists of at least 4 (sometimes 5,6 or even 7) years of thorough study and research and the objective is to prepare students for a career in academics and research (although historically, some students have taken up positions in the industry upon completion). You should be very clear about your future career interests since a misfit in your interests and your program could be catastrophic.
@pandit21 (this one is slightly off-topic from the theme of this thread but may be relevant for you)
In case you are considering to continue in the petroleum industry you may evaluate the programs offered by the School of Petroleum Management ( http://spm.pdpu.ac.in/index.asp ). A few of my engineering classmates who had joined companies in the petro industry are still continuing with those companies (for almost 8-9 yrs now) because of the attractiveness of the industry and growth prospects within the companies.
@pandit21 You should post this on the PGP threads here on PG. This thread is exclusively for FPM/PhD in Management. Besides, the participants of the PGP threads should be able to give you more accurate info on PGP requirements. I am not sure what the current CAT cutoffs of IIMs for PGP interview calls are, but I think you have to score substantially higher than 80 percentile.
Hi puys, I'm an aspiring FPMer: pretty passionate about research and teaching. I'm still in the final year of my B.Tech (Computer Science) degree, so zilch by way of job experience, though Obviously, this was my first time appearing for CAT. Here's my profile, in brief:
10th : 91.8% (ICSE 2007) 12th: 95.5% (ISC 2009) Average score so far in the degree: 8.63/10 (West Bengal University of Tech 2013)
I also have a self-authored research paper that I presented at a national conference, which could probably serve as a little testimonial to my research aptitude.
As such, a few questions: 1) How detrimental to my cause will the lack of experience be? (I do know that certain institutes don't allow freshers to join FPM at all)
2) Anybody with any interview experiences?
3) How much of a difference will research work at UG level make to my chances of getting in? I might still work on publishing a few more research papers in the coming months.
@sb29Thanks a bunch 😃 Feel a little dumb not having searched other interview threads beforehand. On forums where I'm a newbie, I generally search discussions inside out, before posting anything.
First of all, Thanks for such an informative thread on FPM/PhD. @@sb29 @sb29 Thanks a lot for the well-informed answers above. I am looking at options for a Part-time FPM / PhD for next year and most of the queries that I had got resolved after going through this thread. I just wanted to know, other than XLRI, IIM-I,MDI and AIMA-AMU, what could be the other options that I may consider?
Sorry, I forgot to give the details of my background. I think that will help you to give an informed response to my above query. I am an MSc (Applied Maths) from Jadavpur Univ followed by PGDM from Goa Institute of Mgmnt (GIM). I have worked in Market Research agencies (with ACNielsen and IMRB) for 13 years and in the last few years have been teaching Market Research as Visiting Prof in B-Schools like XLRI and GIM. To pursue my teaching / training interests, from 2011, I have moved out of my job and am doing Market Research Consulting and Corporate Training independently in Kolkata. Continuing with my B-School Visiting Prof stints and have also joined Praxis Business School as an Adjunct Professor this year. I am enjoying my B-School teaching experience a lot and I feel that a Part-time FPM / PhD can give me a lot of value-adds... may be I can move to full-time teaching later on. @sb29 - Wanted your opinion on what could be good options for me (being to Teaching from the Corporate side, am not too much sure of what should be the right way of moving to Academics, at this stage of my career).
Sorry for delayed response. Was out of campus for some time.
We do have a Finance faculty here at IIMA whose profile matches yours to quite an extent: CA/CS + FPM (in Finance from IIMA).
If you are interested in studying, researching, and teaching, go for PhD. But be aware that PhD takes time. So do your analysis/calculations beforehand. Try to get in touch with seniors/those who can guide you about this. Go through profiles of Professors/FPM students of various IIMs/other top management schools.
I have completed my BTECH from a C grade clg. Here goes my Acads
