I'm more interested in CB. We will have some methodology courses this semester. So, lets see...

@[83412:sb29]: that must be consumer behavior!

well bro work in nielsen, and apart from your knowledge of the subject, statistics is very important to support your desertion so its better to start of with tools like sas, spsss,r, etc etc !

that is why i liked the course in iimb, they offer all these before hand!

andyways best of luck again!

For all IIM A FPM aspirants....

I am more interested in qual so will take up stats as and when needed.

Ya knowledge of statistics is important but it also depends on what it is used for. Indian researchers are very good in mathematics and statistics. But somehow, their findings never get published in A journals. In my opinion, addressing an interesting research question is more important. Methodology comes later.

Also, methodology courses (statistics etc) is adequately covered in all IIMs before you start off with your research. The advantage of IIMB would be separate PhD focused coursework. Also, afaik, in IIMB, subject tests are held only for some areas and not all.

@[83412:sb29]: hi guy for this the research is primarily quali in nature! and then you have to do survey and all, and then if applicable apply quant technique!

india is laggard in terms of research papers, and we are not good in maths and stats, only bengalis seems to be good in stats, otherwise i havent seen lot of ppl inclined towards it!

but im just saying that in order to prove your dissrtion and all, you would need statistical funda, will give you an example, i was looking for a PHD @ lets say harvard and you know what was the they asking, eco, stats and finally fin! i was looking for financial engg!

FOr IIM A......

Admission Procedure

Application form for admission to FPM could be obtained by post, by sending a demand draft of Rs. 500 drawn in favour of Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, payable at Ahmedabad. The application form can be downloaded from the FPM website (www.iimahd.ernet.in/programmes/dfpm.htm). The admission process consists of the nationally administered COMMON ADMISSION TEST (CAT)/GMAT/GRE/GATE/UGC-JRF(varies for different areas), past academic performance, perfomance in the interviews. Faculty will then evaluate the applications that have been submitted, and invite a selected group of candidates for personal interviews with the faculty and members of the FPM Executive Committee, who recommend candidates for admission. The dead-line for submission of application material is November 30, 2012. Interviews will be held in March/April and admission decisions made by last week of April.

Note: The application form and brochure for 2013 admission will be available on the site from September 1, 2012

@[105207:vjjani] Hi. Last date for applying in IIMA is 30th Nov and by that date CAT result 2012 won't be published even. How will then someone apply?

Moreover, I am thinking either to appear for GRE or CAT. Can you throw some light on the kind of GRE score required for my profile for A,B and C?

I am interested in Public Policy and Systems, Economics and Social Sciences.

My profile.

10th 81%; 12th 81%; B.E (Electronics, Bangalore University) 66%;

Worked for Infosys Technologies for a brief period.

Presently serving as Deputy Collector, State Civil services for about five years now.

Similtaneously doing MA in Public Administration from IGNOU (Final year).

No research paper yet, but I may do one as part of my Final year project of MA.

@[599545:arghya1710] I wonder why nobody is replying this year!

I applied to IIMA last year and had got an interview call. Let me see if I can help you.

Scores: You need to apply giving your CAT reference number. Once your scores are out, they will automatically get the result. Secondly, different areas accept different scores apart from CAT. Do check if GRE is accepted by your area.

I would suggest you to take the GRE as it is widely accepted and you can even apply at other places India and abroad with a GRE score.

Profile: You will easily get into any place in India with your current profile.

One thing I want to know is why you would want to do a PhD? You have a great job. I would suggest that you do a PhD only if you want to become a researcher. If you just want to teach, any business school will take you if you gain few more years of experience and do a part-time/distance/executive PhD.

I hope this helps.

How to appear for RAT?

@[599545:arghya1710]

You need to mention your CAT application number in the application form and your results will be retrieved by the FPM office.
I can't comment about B and C, but for A, any score of 1450+ for your profile should be sufficient to get you a call. However, I must add one word of caution here: my guess is as good as anybody's guess. Calls for FPM are given on a combination of factors, and as students, we can only take a guess.
Explain your rationale for doing a PhD clearly in the application form (SOP).
Regards,

Research aptitude test is held only for IIMB. Based on your application, (SOP and your profile), candidates are called for RAT cum interviews in March timeframe. Some areas shortlist based on RAT and others interview all the candidates called for. This year interviews were held on the same day/next day as RAT. RAT questions are supposed to be similar to CAT (I don't know CAT pattern), but easier. We generally have verbal, quants, data interpretation etc in RAT. Hope this helps.

hi, I am sort of new to this thread and to PG anyways I am planning on applying for FPM at B. I was just wondering if giving the GMAT makes sense specially when B also allows you to apply without one and take the RAT?

Good chances, i believe.....only thing you need to worry about thinking of what you want to work upon during your tenure of FPM and career....if you are sure f it and able to convince interviewers then it's all set for you....

Hi Puys,

I am planning on giving the GMAT and I am focused on FPM because I want to get into academics the thing is my masters is from the UK and I have written to IIMB adcom asking if they accept it. Any idea or opinions about it from you would be of great help.

Candidates who have recently completed their PGPs/MBA from IIMs/other colleges are often asked the following few questions: Why Phd now? What about your pending loans? How are you going to cope with the stipend which will be much below your current salary levels?

These are few questions, which often become tricky for securing admissions.
Your profile looks good. However, be prepared to answer questions about your interest in Finance, especially when you are in a Sales job now.
