Wow! 12 years is a lot! :)
Why don't you also look at Exec FPM or Off campus PhD at one of the IITs too?
In IITs, they have an option to finish off the coursework in one semester (campus stay mandatory) and then continue research at your own pace. Only catch is that they would want you to have a mentor at the organization where you are working. So mostly people get into academics and join this PhD program. VGSOM has a particularly strong OB/HR faculty pool. SJMSOM is good in strategy. You can explore this option because many bschools will be ready to take you as faculty even without a PhD owing to your experience.
For applying to the PhD Program of SJMSOM, what exam(s) does one have to appear? I looked into the work experience of the current students. Its huge! I am currently studying in the 1st year of a MBA program. I am participated extensively in extra-curricular activities and have held various PORs during my graduation. I passed out last year and have a work-ex of only 8 months. My acads are decent with 80+ always. Please guide!

Thanks!

@amartyadey The work experience may seem huge as many of the 'students' are actually enrolled in off campus PhD. Read my reply just above your post. It is pointless for these people to pursue a full time PhD/FPM. So, they enroll in the off campus PhD.

The entrace tests can be found in the admissions brochure of research programs at IIT Bombay. Also keep in mind that at SJMSOM, you will need to submit a proper research proposal while applying.

@sb29 Thank you for the information.

Need some more suggestions. In my B-school we can distribute credits across subjects and we have the liberty to take 44 credits in the second year. To specialize in a particular domain, one need to qualify in 14 credits minimum. I am considering distributing the credits across Finance, Operations and HR. Reasons are many! Would this be a bad idea?

Thanks in advance!
Hello Seniors -

My Profile:
X : 90.5 %
XII :93.33 %
UG : B.Tech (Chemical & Electrochemical engg)
CGPA : 8.7 / 10
Work exp : 58 months (as of now) in an IT major
Extra Currics : Convened Inter college technical symposium (Other than this, there is nothing worth mentioning)

My Query:
Am planning to apply for FPM in the IIMs through CAT.
a) What would be the CAT percentile cut off for my profile (if at all it is profile based) ?
b) Does my profile has what it takes to be considered for BP & Strategy area ? (I believe it is futile to try other areas)
c) What kind of recos would be required ? (academic, professional)

It would be helpful if any of you can answer these questions.

@amartyadey Generally 2 is a good idea, 3 isn't. I won't know of multiple specializations as I had only 1 in SP. But I have either heard of people taking 2 or not specializing at all and focusing on 'general management'.

However, from a perspective of doing a PhD I would suggest you keep the following in mind:

1. PhD would focus on depth of knowledge. In case you spread your knowledge too thin and across different (and sometimes unrelated) fields, you may not gain an understanding of the field you are interested in.

2. Try to take subjects which has a high weightage to a term paper or a term project. You can later convert this project into a paper or submit it in a conference. That would help your application.

Hey Guys,
My self Vikash. I have 52 months experience with a Leading Bank in Project financing department. I am 2007 B.Tech pass out. Now I feel that MBA in finance is must for me.Now shall I aim for 1 year or two year MBA or FPM? My Details are-
10th- 73.1%
12th- 57.8%
B.Tech-78.5%
Experience- 52 months with Leading bank as Credit Manager

I have also joined a CAT coaching institute where my Mock CAT Score are between 80to 85 %ile. I hope I can end up with 90%ile in CAT or XAT.

Please tell shall I go ahead for which MBA? and Can I really get into good- B Shools with this type of average acads.??

@Vikash_Tripathi I think you are getting a bit confused about the FPM. FPM is a PhD program for which you would have to spend 4 years and is more inclined towards research and academia. I feel (and this is only my personal opinion) that you should first decide on what you would like to do? The first few posts on this thread give a clear idea of what the FPM is all about.

Puys I have a question for all those interested in FPM. How many of you are actually inclined towards Academia and Research?

I am..provided i get a chance
@Adymos : research, as teaching is not my cup of tea!

My profile is below:

10th: 86.29 %
12th: 83.2%
B.Pharm: 70.1%

Currently doing MBA in Pharmaceutical Management from NMIMS, Mumbai.
I am highly inclined towards pursuing PhD.
I dont have any work ex.

My queries are as below:

1) Am I eligible for FPM program, since I am doing specialized MBA in Pharmaceuticals?
2) What score in CAT is required to get into any good IIM? (I dont know anything about CAT, since I was very sure to get into NMIMS MBA Pharma, so I had given only NMAT).

PLEASE HELP ME OUT.
@sb29 Please tell me if I am wrong.

But if I take subjects across these 3 specializations, won't this be considered as "General Management"? In our degree certificate, nothing would be mentioned. Just "PGDM".
@amartyadey What is written on your degree hardly matters. What matters is what you know. By the way, my reply was from a PhD perspective.

What is the meaning of "General Management" then?

I want to research in the field of Strategy and/or Organizational Behavior. Please brief me about them, and what subjects I could look at.

Thanks!
@mrudangthakor

Yes you are eligible. But the big question is your area of interest.
If you can justify your interest in SOP then that will fetch you a call.

There is no particular score to get a call . Try to get maximum. Few IIMs considers 85%ile + for there first screening round.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
@amartyadey I think we are talking about different things. From a corporate career point of view, your specialization may qualify as general management. However if you want in-depth knowledge of a particular specialization then specializing in 3 different things won't help.

OB itself is a vast field where people can work in Organization theory, macro/micro OB, HRM etc. I don't know much about the strategy area. Maybe @bzg2hg will be able to help. But from what I understand, you need to have a firm grasp over finance and economics.
@sb29 Thank you for replying!
