Thanks!
@amartyadey The work experience may seem huge as many of the 'students' are actually enrolled in off campus PhD. Read my reply just above your post. It is pointless for these people to pursue a full time PhD/FPM. So, they enroll in the off campus PhD.
The entrace tests can be found in the admissions brochure of research programs at IIT Bombay. Also keep in mind that at SJMSOM, you will need to submit a proper research proposal while applying.
Need some more suggestions. In my B-school we can distribute credits across subjects and we have the liberty to take 44 credits in the second year. To specialize in a particular domain, one need to qualify in 14 credits minimum. I am considering distributing the credits across Finance, Operations and HR. Reasons are many! Would this be a bad idea?
My Profile:
X : 90.5 %
XII :93.33 %
UG : B.Tech (Chemical & Electrochemical engg)
CGPA : 8.7 / 10
Work exp : 58 months (as of now) in an IT major
Extra Currics : Convened Inter college technical symposium (Other than this, there is nothing worth mentioning)
My Query:
Am planning to apply for FPM in the IIMs through CAT.
a) What would be the CAT percentile cut off for my profile (if at all it is profile based) ?
b) Does my profile has what it takes to be considered for BP & Strategy area ? (I believe it is futile to try other areas)
c) What kind of recos would be required ? (academic, professional)
It would be helpful if any of you can answer these questions.
@amartyadey Generally 2 is a good idea, 3 isn't. I won't know of multiple specializations as I had only 1 in SP. But I have either heard of people taking 2 or not specializing at all and focusing on 'general management'.
However, from a perspective of doing a PhD I would suggest you keep the following in mind:
1. PhD would focus on depth of knowledge. In case you spread your knowledge too thin and across different (and sometimes unrelated) fields, you may not gain an understanding of the field you are interested in.
2. Try to take subjects which has a high weightage to a term paper or a term project. You can later convert this project into a paper or submit it in a conference. That would help your application.
Hey Guys,
My self Vikash. I have 52 months experience with a Leading Bank in Project financing department. I am 2007 B.Tech pass out. Now I feel that MBA in finance is must for me.Now shall I aim for 1 year or two year MBA or FPM? My Details are-
10th- 73.1%
12th- 57.8%
B.Tech-78.5%
Experience- 52 months with Leading bank as Credit Manager
I have also joined a CAT coaching institute where my Mock CAT Score are between 80to 85 %ile. I hope I can end up with 90%ile in CAT or XAT.
Please tell shall I go ahead for which MBA? and Can I really get into good- B Shools with this type of average acads.??
Puys I have a question for all those interested in FPM. How many of you are actually inclined towards Academia and Research?
My profile is below:
What is the meaning of "General Management" then?
Yes you are eligible. But the big question is your area of interest.
If you can justify your interest in SOP then that will fetch you a call.
There is no particular score to get a call . Try to get maximum. Few IIMs considers 85%ile + for there first screening round.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
