GMAT aspirants at Hyderabad - Study Group

Hi,

I am a s/w engg working in Hyderabad and in this profession for the past 2 years.

Just a month back I started studying for GMAT but unfortunately I am not being very regular (what with all the work  not able to study everyday!!) with the prep.

I have almost completed GMAT Kaplan book (w/o the diagnostic test)...wanted to know what other books should I do prac from?

Also i havent as yet booked a date for the test, should I book it from now only though I am not even vaguely sure when will I be prepared enough to give the test

Anyways this is my 1st post on the forum and have joined it for some guidance and motivation :p

Good thing you have finished Kaplan. You can move on to OG and Kaplan 800. Complete both not one of them. You should be good to go. As you are an engineer, do sharpen your Verbal skills. Princeton review is a good book. The Princeton Verbal review is not such a good book, so stay away.

Not that I need this book badly. I just read somewhere that this book is handy for preparing for application essays. Especially for those who have like 2 yrs work exp. So I needed a feedback regd is it good.

No offense meant..You have PG to know all about the best practices in MBA admissions. Why need a book?

Yikes dude!

That is a killer score !

Was wondering, for the 740 level of questions on the real thing, how much tougher are they than say the questions in OG11 ?

Thank in advance man
JK

That is a difficult question. See I practiced a lot on kaplan - CD and 800 (book) - all the questions and full length tests. if on the scale of 0-10 kaplan is like 10 and OG 11 - 0 then i would say the questions ranges
i. quant : 0-3
ii. Verbal : 0-5

With majority being 0-2 level. I felt that last 50 questions in OG 11 were the real deal. that type of questions you can surely expect. I used kaplan only for practice.

Sorry yaar, I cannot help you in this regard. I did not attend any coaching. I prepared on my own with help from Pagalguy and testmagic forums. For building the concepts - quant - i used cat prep material and for verbal i used manhattan SC and Sahil / Spidey notes. then it was all practice practice and practice

2.Regardin the study material how to kick off my preps.

study material that i used were - OG 11, OG 10, Kaplan 800, Kaplan online tests, GMAT prep tests and Sets (21-31), Score top tests

Well to kick off your prep i would suggest a diagnostic test (not from kaplan), identify your weak areas and then attack them systematically. keep giving tests from time to time to check your progress. I prepared for roughly 2-3 months, I think that would be enough for you also.

PM me your mail Id. i will send you my notes - hope they will be helpful.

plz help

Powerprep is the earlier version of GMAT prep. It contains old questions that have been asked in GMAT (older than the ones in GMAT Prep). GMAT prep closely corresponds to look and feel of GMAT (actually the test portion is exact in look and feel). Both are good to practice, however, you may find Prower Prep a bit easier that GMAT prep.

Sorry Dude, All my material was borrowed from friends so cant help you much. But as far the material is concerned - OG 11 / OG 10 / Kaplan 800 / Sets 21-31 / Kaplan Tests / Princeton (which you already have) / GMAT Perp will suffice. there is lot more material available but mostly repeat of questions given above.

try himalya bookstore at Banjanra hills or Walden (i took my Kaplan 800 there) for these books. You could also purchase them online. Try out the second hand market.

2. As u are based in Hyderabad,Could u please let any material which u have for me to get it photocopied....or any softcopies

Thanks in advance,
