Hi Guys !,
Please try this and post your answers with explanations
Advocates insist that health savings accounts are an efficient method to reduce medical expenses. However, widespread adoption of these accounts will soon undermine the publics health. One reason for this is that most people will be reluctant to deplete their accounts to pay for regular preventive examinations, so that in many cases a serious illness will go undetected until it is far advanced. Another reason is that poor people, who will not be able to afford health savings accounts, will no longer receive vaccinations against infectious diseases.
The statements above, if true, most support which of the following?
A Wealthy individuals will not be affected negatively by health savings accounts.
B Private health insurance will no longer be available.
C Most diseases are detected during regular preventive examinations.
D Some people without health savings accounts are likely to contract infectious diseases.
E The causal relationship between an individuals health and that persons medical care has been adequately documented.
Thanks Mukul
The passage states that health savings accounts will undermine the health of the public because people will not use them for preventive care. Furthermore, people who cannot afford them will not be able to receive even basic care such as vaccinations. The correct answer will be a conclusion that can be supported solely by the facts stated in the argument, without relying on outside information or additional assumptions.
(A) The argument does not provide enough information to conclude that wealthy individuals will not be affected negatively by health savings accounts. The argument never specifically mentions wealthy individuals, just people in general.
(B) The argument does not provide enough information to conclude that private health insurance will no longer be available. In fact, private health insurance is never mentioned.
(C) The author argues that people will not get regular preventive examinations, and will therefore not receive medical attention until diseases are advanced. This logic, even if true, does not allow us to conclude that most diseases are detected during regular preventive examinations.
(D) CORRECT. The argument states that "poor people, who will not be able to afford health savings accounts, will no longer receive vaccinations". Based on this statement, it is reasonable to conclude that some people without health savings are likely to contract infectious diseases.
(E) The argument does not provide enough information to conclude that the causal relationship between an individual's health and that persons medical care has been adequately documented. In fact, neither the link between medical care and health nor documentation of such a link is directly discussed.
It takes 4 weeks for 5 professional window washers working regular full-time hours to properly clean every window of the Empire State Building. The buildings owner demands that all the windows must always be clean. Yet even if the 5 washers work consistently throughout their regular work week, they will not be able to finish cleaning all the windows before some windows will again need cleaning.
It can be correctly inferred on the basis of the statements above that which of the following must be true?
A) If an Empire State Building window is to be kept clean, it must be cleaned by a professional window cleaner.
B) The owners demand for proper cleaning of all the windows will never be fulfilled.
C) If a team of 5 window washers cleans all the Empire State Buildings windows in less than 4 weeks, some of the windows will not be properly cleaned.
D) In order to ensure that all of the Empire State Buildings windows are clean, the owner must have his window washers work overtime.
E) Some Empire State Building windows must be cleaned more frequently than once every four weeks if they are to be kept clean.

In an attempt to reduce the crime rate, the governor is getting tough on criminals and making prison conditions harsher. Part of this effort has been to deny inmates the access they formerly had to college level courses. However this action is clearly counter to the governor's ultimate goal, since after being released from prison ,inmates who had taken such courses committed far fewer crimes overall than other inmates.
Which of the following is an assumption on which the argument depends ?
A Former inmates are no more likely to commit crimes than are members of the general population
B The group of inmates who chose to take college-level courses were not already less likely than other inmates to commit crime after being released.
C Taking high school level courses in prison has less effect on an inmate's subsequent behavior than taking college-level courses does.
D Not being able to take college-level courses while in prison is unlikely to deter anyone from a crime that he or she might otherwise might have committed.
E The governor's ultimate goal actually is to gain popularity by convincing people that something effective is being done about crime

"inmates who had taken such courses committed far fewer crimes overall than other inmates." Option A is out of context same with C as we did not discuss any thing bout high school courses option E contradicts fact stated in passage(to reduce crime rate) option D iswrong as governor thinks making prison conditions harder deters potential criminals

Option A cannot be infered from passage as nowhere it is mentioned in the passage ,that only professional window cleaners only can clean
option B is false, because if more window cleaners are employed ,his wih would be fulfilled
Option E cannot be inferred from the passage ,as no where in the passage it is mentioned that some windows are more prone to get dirty
between option C and D,option C is more apt because of the highlighted part, so i wouldgo with option C

IMO E.
A,B and C are easy to eliminate. Now between D and E i will eliminate D because we are not sure about the time after which the window catches dirt again.

Ernesto: Sales of VCR'svideocassetterecorders will decline in the next few years because the saturation level among U.S. households has virtually been reached.
Milton: Every year a greater number of popular feature films is released on cassette at least 6 per month. Clearly VCR sales will remain constant, if not rise.
Which of the following is the best logical evaluation of Milton's response to Ernesto's argument?
A. He cites evidence that, if true, disproves the evidence cited by Ernesto in drawing his conclusion. B. He points out a gap in the logic followed by Ernesto in drawing his conclusion. C. He cites an issue ignored by Ernesto and which outweighs the issues raised by Ernesto. D. He does not speak to Ernesto's point because he fails to raise the issue of whether VCR sales may be linked to sales of other leisure-related products. E. He fails to respond to Ernestos argument because he assumes that nothing will significantly retard the sale of VCRs, which was the issue that Ernesto raised.

IMO D
As the popular films are released it is not necessary people will watch them only on VCR.
Another one, this is from an old post. Please include explanations of ur answer also
Q6:Belukian waters began declining; in 1996, despite there being no reduction in the level of legal lobster fishing activity, the local catch was 9,000 tons below pre-1992 levels. It is therefore highly likely that the outlaw fishing boats harvested about 9,000 tons of lobster illegally that year. Which of the following is an assumption on which the argument depends?
A. The illegal lobster harvesting was not so extensive that the population of catchable lobsters in Belukias territorial waters had sharply declined by 1996.
B. The average annual lobster catch, in tons, of an outlaw fishing boat has increased steadily since 1992.
C. Outlaw fishing boats do not, as a group, harvest more lobsters than do licensed lobster-fishing boats.
D. The annual legal lobster harvest in Belukia in 1996 was not significantly less than 9,000 tons.
E. A significant proportion of Belukias operators of licensed lobster-fishing boats went out of business between 1992 and 1996.
IMO the answer is E. OA please. A -- > Milton's evidence doesn't clash with that of Ernesto's. B -- > Milton doesn't point out any gap in the logic. C -- > nowhere it's mentioned that issues raised by Milton outweighs those raised by Ernesto. D -- > 'linked to sales of other leisure-related products' is not very specific. E -- > Correct. Ernesto implied that as the saturation level has been reached, sales of VCRs will go down gradually in the next few years (maybe some other similar kind of products will replace it). As Milton 'fails to respond' to the issue by wrongly assuming that 'nothing will significantly retard the sale of VCRs' and brings in some unrelated evidence to prove his point.

IMO the answer is A.
A -- > Correct. The conclusion is based on the assumption that the catch population didn't decrease otherwise so as to cause sharp decline in '96. B -- > an increase (or decrease) in the average annual lobster catch by outlaw fishing boat is not enough an assumption to conclude that outlaw boats harvested 9000 tonnes illegally in '96. C -- > doesn't effect in the reduction. D -- > doesn't effect in the reduction. E -- > it's mentioned that there has been 'no reduction in the level of legal lobster fishing activity'. so this issue doesn't effect in the reduction of the local catch.

To my mind, He fails to respond to Ernestos argument because he assumes that nothing will significantly retard the sale of VCRs, which was the issue that Ernesto raised. since ...milton is not gist of the issue raised by eansto.Earnsto was speaking about saturation level of VCD player ....whose sale is nothing to do with popular cinema, but is related with customers without VCD player.
