this above arguments suggests that;
suggesting that exercise increases brain chemicals, i.e. Increased brain chemicals in mice..

connect both the arguments..
>> more brain chemicals = active mice

that(exercise that increases brain chemicals) makes them(mice) more resilient to cognitive deadline

does that help resolve the doubt.. ;)

I dont think "it" is referring to brain chemicals. if it was so, the sentence would read as :
exercise increases brain chemicals that makes brain chemicals more resilient...." Does it sound right? Chemicals cant be made resilient. Here, mice become more reslient and hence "it" is referring to mice.

Now the question is what is making mice more resilient: excercise/chemicals?
I think chemicals, but would like to wait for oa before giving further lecture :)

By adding comma in the sentence, one can make two clear distinctive sentences, which are joined by adding comma in between. As you can read option-B with full sentence:

Terrorist violence may represent some sub-national aspirations within a state system which, calls for a sympathetic understanding of the systematic indignity that terrorists have gone through.

Wheres in option-C:
In the case of other option, everything goes in one sentence, when you read it incorrect sentence formation one can notice without comma.

using the if-then funda that comes first to my mind.. I would have filled in the blank space with something that suits the "if-then" SC directives..

the only 2 options that stand out for me are:
option A - had he not been held in check by his superiors
option D - if he was not held in check by his superiors - INCORRECT use of 'was'.. the correct usage is 'were'

I would have marked option A as my answer..
