however, I believe I would have marked option E as my answer..

I would have marked option E

correct idioms used -- 3 idioms in fact:
1) potential to ( it eliminates A, C)
2) determined by ( eliminates B)
3) so X as to Y ( eliminates D )

This is pretty neat.. it solved it using parallelism.. I hope my answer matches the OA..

of option C and option E, the option C is wordy and uses "to be" which is wrong... so I am left with option D alone..

of the remaining 3 options, option E is too wordy.. discard that also..

I am not sure about the difference between "awareness about" & "awareness of" usage in English.. they both sound valid to me..

I too am confused....but typically it is said that we use "due to" when we can replace it with caused by, here I dont think we can do so...also ...predicting is not subjunctive i guess...so even i would go with A

well.. I was pretty convinced that option D is the answer.. until I re-read option A.. see the funda is to choose the best option as per GMAT standards.. so though "predicting" and "will be" might not sound best, it is mostly true on GMAT.. so mark that option..

BTW.. wat are the 2 sources that you mentioned about above..

I got some old gmat papers...usmein i found the answer and also one more pdf were these were solved...both answers were not the same.....

I think ans should be "A" - "target be raised" in D seems more of a demand than a prediction.

The OA is B, and I had marked option C...I had thought that the phrase "in the 1880's" was a bit awkwardly placed and changed the meaning...
