The benefits of having many trees on one's property range from insulation and energy conservation in summer and winter , cleaning the air, and increases property value.

a..
b. cleaning the air, and increasing
c. cleaner air, and increases in
d. to cleaner air, to increases in
e. to cleaner air, and increases in

...range from X and Y to A and B

IMO...E

Although I think " ...and increase in..." is better than "...and increases in..."
I think this is pretty straight forward.. but with only on glitch, the use of "being" in the most appropriate option..

I would have marked option D
A mine exploded last August while the field was being cleared.

yep ...you are right Varun. Thanks.

I made the mistake of outright rejecting D ( didnot even bother to read the sentence carefully because of the existence of 'being')

Last August, while cleaning the field, a mine exploded.
a. Last August, while cleaning the field, a mine exploded.
->tense inconsistent( presence of both continuous and past tense )
b. While clearing the field, a mine exploded last August.
->here 'last object' is treated as a object. So,it comes like this:
While clearing the field,a mine exploded 'object'
c. Last August, a mine exploded while clearing the field.
-> same as A
d. A mine exploded last August while the field was being cleared.
-> this one is apt. ( I had eliminated on the pretext it was the longest & had being in it.
e. A mine was exploded by clearing the field last August.
->this one is as funny as the comment given by sud ( as character in radio mirchi )
...range from X and Y to A and B

Although I think " ...and increase in..." is better than "...and increases in..."

Absolutely Vikram...you got it right.

The benefits of having many trees on one's property range from insulation and energy conservation in summer and winter , cleaning the air, and increases property value.

a..
b. cleaning the air, and increasing
-> does not care to use the idiom 'range from x to y'
c. cleaner air, and increases in
-> same as B
d. to cleaner air, to increases in
-> 2 'to' when 1 should be used.
e. to cleaner air, and increases in
-> the best of the lot ...except that there are multiple benefits ..so should be plural. Therefore increase is apt.
PS : this question reminds me of Dil Chahta Hai ...there's a dialogue in this movie by Amir ... Hello hello mike testing .. check 1 2 4 ...
aray 3 kahan gaya .. " the same place where option A has gone".

Papa Ji,
My answers in bold. Also, please refrain from "not underlining" or "skipping choice A" or for that matter other choices. It just makes it too cumbersome. For example: in question 2 above, you did not underline the portion in question that needs correction, mentioned "same" for A, so I had to inspect other choices to identify which portion of the question are you talking about, and more over, you gracefully ignored D πŸ˜ƒ :nono:

IMO:
1. C
2. C
3. E

For 3, refer to Spidy's notes. it has an amazing explanation.

Hey Pagals, try these :

1.Distinguished architecture requires the expenditure of large sums of money, even if it is by no means certain that the expenditure of large sums of money produce distinguished architecture.
(A) even if it is by no means certain that the expenditure of large sums of money produce
"it" refers to architecture here. Architecture can not be certain about something!!
(B) even if it is by no means certain that the expenditure of large sums of money will produce
Same problem as A
(C) even though there is no certainty that the expenditure of money in large sums produces
(D) even though it is by no means certain that the expenditure of large sums of money produce
Same problem as A
(E) though there is no certainty as to the expenditure of money in large sums producing
This sentence a little better but its passiveness and "producing" at the end make it little awkward.

a) same
b) companies to allow their retiring employees who would otherwise lose group health care coverage that they can continue
"that they can continue". Mandate is not for employees even when "they" may refer to employees.

c) that a company allow its retiring emloyees who would otherwis lose group health care coverage to continue
d) .... ( πŸ˜› Dil Chahta hai )
e) companies to allow a retiring employee whose group health care covergae would otherwise be lost the coninuation of
"companies to allow.... the continuation of ..."-- this is wordy/awkward

Hey ...

do you happen to see the questions from Official Guide in the GMAT ??

I saw them comming up in the Powerprep Tests that i gave. And they were predominantly present there.

Suggest.

yes i have seen them on GMATPrep, not sure about powerprep.. Thats one drawback with tests from mba.com

I would suggest, if time permits you, take a break from OG and switch you some other book for sometime before taking further powerprep tests
But if you have strong memory power, this method will not work. lol

I was just kidding. yes your observation is right.
