I ad my interview on 29th January, 2015 at UBI Staff College Kolkata. I was in the morning half and was 21st in the list out of a total 23 candidates appearing for panel VII.
Attempted 109 in Written with hopefully good accuracy.
Around 2 PM my chance came and I went into the room and greeted the Madam first and then followed it up by greeting the 4 male panelists.
The chairman asked me to sit with a smile and then started asking me some questions.
Chairman : So your name is Anirban ?
Me : Yes, Sir
Chairman : Do you know the meaning of your name ?
Me : With a pause of 3 to 4 seconds told the meaning.
Chairman : Who all are there in your family ?
Me : I have only my father in my family.
Chairman : What happened to your mom ?
Me : She expired in 2011 ?
Chairman : How did she expire ?
Me : She was suffering from Cancer
Chairman : What does your father do ?
Me : He retired as the CGM of NABARD.
Chairman : (with his brows raised and with a smile) He retired as CGM. Then he might have retired from Mumbai ?
Me : No Sir, he retired from Kolkata citing my mom's ill health.
Chairman : Oh yes! That is a facility given in banks
So, you did B. Sc in Computer Science. Why didn't you go for IT job ?
Me : Sir, I am pursuin my M.Sc
Chairman : Good. So when will your final semester end ?
Me : Around April end and May first week
Chairman : If you are asked to join in February then what will you do ?
Me : I will join.
Chairman : How ? You will have your college
Me : I will have a talk with the college authorities.
Chairman : But you will have your classes. How will the authorities help ?
Me : Sir as this is the final semester we have class once a week, that too can be managed as the stress is on project.
Chairman : But for project you have to visit companies.
Me : No sir, we have projects under the college authorities. I have to follow up with my project guide once a week on phone or meet up with him for an hour on weekends.
Chairman : Good. Then it is ok. Do you have a bank account ?
Me : Yes sir.
Chairman : In which bank.
Me : ICICI Bank, Netaji Nagar branch.
Chairman : Do you visit the branch often or do all banking activities online ?
Me : Mostly online sir, but I went to the branch 2 or 3 times to deposit my cheque.
Chairman : Did you ever notice the officer in your branch ?
Me : Yes sir.
Chairman : Did you see what he does ?
Me : Yes sir.
Chairman : Now suppose you are made an officer/branch manager in one such branch then what are the things you will do ?
Me : Sir as I have noticed in my branch which is a small one, the manager usually receives customers who are there to open new accounts. I will guide them and clarify their doubts and help them with all their difficulties and see to it that their experience with our bank is seamless.
Chairman : Very good. Good, good. Anything else ?
Me : As branch manager I will keep an eye over my colleagues and see to it that they handle the customer well and doesn't ruin the image of the bank.
Chairman : Good. Now how will you deal with an unruly employee ?
Me : I will wisely deal with the employee using all the powers vested in me by the bank and if needed I will take strict action within my limit.
Chairman : That is nice. But as you know there are unions in banks. They will protest if you take a strict action or any action. What about them ?
Me : Sir as an officer it is my duty to execute my responsibilities properly and see to it that the objective of the bank is protected and being an officer I should not be deterred by Union threats.
Chairman : Smiled and then asked, Being a master's student how are you dealing with bank exams ?
Me : Sir whatever is possible along with my studies, I am trying my best on my own. Moreover IBPS is an exam that requires the natural awareness and ability of a candidate and that helps me.
Chairman : Yes true. We all have limits and we must work out a way. So you have given IBPS PO and Clerk.
Me : No sir. I have given IBPS PO only.
Chairman : Did you give it last year ?
Me : Yes sir I gave it but I didn't clear the written.
Chairman smiled and passed the baton on to a young male panelist.
He asked me questions :
1. What is TCP - Answered
2. What is handshaking protocol - Answered
3. What is FTP - Answered
4. What is its port number - Not answered
5. Port number of HTTP - Answered
6. Port number of HTTPS - Not answered
The young panelist then smiled and said to me that I am doing my Masters in Computer Science and I should have known about HTTPS
I said sorry sir at the moment I am unable to recollect it.
Then the chairman smiled and said that I may leave.
I thanked them and left the room.
It was a mixed experience and I tried to speak as much as possible from my conviction and with all honesty.
I am sad that I was unable to answer 2 computer related questions and I think I will get very less marks in interview :/
Still it was a good experience.
What do you guys think. How did my interview go.
