Listing out the discussion at Copenhagen :
1. Political accord and commitment by US and china for climate financing etc. US backing gave rise to speculations that US has gained support for this accord thru "threats-promises of aid" and US had lowest emission pledge under this accord.
2. $30bn were pledged to the developing world to help them to adapt to climate change.
3. Earlier proposals aimed to cut co2 emissions and limiting temperature were dropped.
4. "Reduced deforestation in return of cash" was proposed.
Again none of the agreements during Copenhagen were legally binding.
Hi puys,
Sorry i could not chip in today due to some issues and have to leave now. Can you please let me know if a topic is decided for tomorrow ?
Hi All...a suggestion........discussing here may increase the length of the thread and scatter the points here and there.....would it be fine to discuss and then post a gist at the end for the benefit of those not at FB.
As I am not from the commerce background, I am not too sure about it. But what I know for sure is that you can expect a lot of academic questions thrown at you. For example they can ask you about some accounting terms. I will ask one of my batchmate from commerce background to write about his interview experience to give you an idea.
It depends on the way you take forward your interview. They don't expect you to know everything, in fact they are there just to know you better. It's entirely upto you how you project your interests in front of them. If you tell them that I am interested in marketing, they are not going to ask you anything related to finance.
Quoting the above reply, can we expect the same for a commerce student but with 2 years workex..
It would be really helpful if 1-2 of ur batchmates with commerce+workex profile can reflect upon this!!! 😃
Hi Seniors,
Can we also expect serious questions from our Graduation subjects? that might need us to pay a visit to at least some of the basic subjects.
Thanks.
If you do not have any work-ex, then to be on the safe side, you should go through atleast 2-3 subjects which you liked during your graduation. What happened with me was that they asked me about my favorite subjects before putting up academic questions. So if you are comfortable with a few subjects, you can confidently tell those subjects to them.
hi....
2. also if the weight-age of the scores is so much for a person wid gud score gd/pi will just be a formality? :O
Thank you
If this was the case, they would have directly given a convert to the top 50 rankers. Please remember that there is still 35% evaluation left.
Can you please suggest some book or magazine where I can get an in-depth knowledge about the financial and monetary policy of INDIA.....how these two are different, how they operate in crisis....
Thanks,
Nishanth
I am attaching some pdf's related to India's overall economic outlook, its fiscal and monetary policies over the years, and a case study document related to depreciation of currency. It is possible that people with non-commerce background may not understand most part of these documents (even I wouldn't have understood them a year back :)). Don't worry, just try and get the gist of it.
We are having this discussion on the fB group page

Same here guys!
You are having a great discussion in FB but am able to check it only after I reach home(after 11pm) & FB is inaccessible in office, so unable to participate. :-(
Would request if we can have topics as well as parallel discussions on PG too (if not sharing the FB one here), not restricted to any time duration but a more general & open one in addition to the discussion going on in FB! I think we will have an increased contribution ?
Even if you want the discussions to be done on FB, the least you can do is accept the request of others to join the group.
Sincerely,
It-has-been-two-days
Hi Seniors,
I had silly thought. Generally, in GD, it is a good option that you define the keywords in the topic as in what they mean and then what they COULD mean in the context. then carry on the discussion with all possibilities. (at least what i was told).
Now, if the above holds good, is it applicable to essay also. Let me share the topic which led me to think about all this: (from last year's exp threads) Domestic Animals are Man's Best Friends
now in a GD i would have exaggerated on what friends are and how we define our friends to increase the scope of discussion but does that hold good in essay also (if the same topic comes in essay).
I hope i was able to put forward my doubt clearly.
Thanks.
fellow puys...your take on this?
Hi All i wanted to know if all TIME centers are good for GD PI or is Rajouri Garden better than others. Is the faculty same at each of the centers. Please reply as i want to get registered by tomorrow.
fellow puys...your take on this?
Hey Sanchit
Though not an expert, but IMO Essays follow a well defined Structure, starting with an Introduction in the 1st para, followed by different paras serving their own purposes like explaining different points, or comparing the differences or conclusion, based on the topic's requirement.Like you see in any Wiki Article.
Essays usually come with a word limit, hence unlike GD, it has to be to-the-point & exaggeration should be mostly avoided as with limited words available, you would like to rather cover your specific points in a presentable way.

Congratulations to all IIFT 2011 takers for making to the next round of selection process. You people have proved your speed and analytical skills by leaving behind other ~65000 aspirants. But the toughest is yet to come.
Hi, I am Chinar Gupta, batch of 2011-13, IIFT Delhi.
I am B.Com (Hons) graduate from University of Delhi and have 8 months of work experience in Business Research.
I will share my experience of Essay writing, Group discussion and Personal Interview. Here it goes :
16 Feb, 2011
0830 Hours - Reached IIFT Delhi campus well before the time mentioned, in Business Formals.
0915 Hours - Sit in a conference room in the Main Admin Block along with other people mostly covered by Black and Blue coats.
0930 Hours - Essay writing begins. Topic - E-governance can be used to fight corruption. That's cool. Made some justifiable and self explanatory points. Please focus on the words like fight --> corruption and do leave a conclusion. The basic idea of the essay writing is not only to judge your content, but to judge how well you can frame your ideas formatting in the best possible way.
1000 Hours - Call for a Group discussion. A group of ~13 people, all the groups simultaneously performing. There will be 2 persons examining you. One will be marking you on your content and the other on your soft skills and posture (including the way you sit and how you keep your legs, cant forget that). Your roll number plate will already be put there beforehand and most probably, a person will be asked to moderate with a Bell.
Topic - The recent Class X reforms by CBSE are beneficial to the students
Introduction time 90secs were given to everyone before the house was made open for discussion. Sufficiently registered ~5 entries, and I was the first one to be given the charge of the bell. Though really couldn't make much use of it, but as soon as I felt its use, it was passed on to some other guy.
1330 Hours - Standing 7th in queue for Personal interview. Finally my name was announced, and with a deep breath, I opened the door.
Me - Asked for the permission to enter the room.
(moved beside the chair while the faculty was evaluating my CV Form and greeted them)
M1 - Dr. Ram Singh, one of the best professors at IIFT for International Trade
M2 - Don't remember his name, but haven't seen him in past 6 months. Aged around 60, a happy guy with a smile on his face.
W1 - Don't remember her name, quite energetic and cunning.
M1 asked to take the chair.
M2 - Your name is unheard. Do you know its meaning ?
Me - Told that its a name of the tree typically found in Kashmir ..., and created some humor why my parents chose that name. (Sixer - they smiled)
W1 - What is its English name ? On which country's flag is it found ?
Me - No Idea... LBW
M1 - So you are from such a reputed college, why did you chose to go for MBA and not CA. Your father is also into Tax consulting business. You should have gone for CA.
Me - Gyan and stuff about how an MBA is different from CA... etc etc
M2 - So do you wish to join your father's business or you have some other plans ?
Me - Told how I can transform my father's business and the opportunities available to crack.
M1 - That means you wish to go for Finance as a specialisation ?
Me - (Bouncer, two thoughts. If yes, I could be questioned then why IIFT. No, that means I am not clear on what I want to do in my life.) Handled the situation diplomatically saying interested in finance but have not decided yet. Want to take hands on experience and then chose.
M2 - What other calls do you have?
Me - No other call, though had a decent percentile in CAT.
M1 - Ok, one last question. Do you think Inflation in India is a Demand side problem ? What are your views on this ?
Me - Gyan - Gyan - Gyan, explained what inflation is, how is it Demand side. What is the case in India, why it is not demand side, was asked to answer objectively at the end.
Was then asked to leave then.
@Prince - I know the interview was not as much related to commerce, because I feel the M2 and W1 faculty was not from to commerce.
@Others - You can always PM or post your queries here, I will revert back.
Best,
Chinar Gupta

Is India's growth story over?

I can understand your problem as I was in the same situation as you are I read 2 books during that 1.5 months- 'The monk who sold his ferrari' and 'The wings of fire'. It is preferred to write non-fictional books, but if you are an avid fan of any author, you can also write his fictional books if you want (and please no Chetan Bhagat). I am afraid there is no other way out. This column can become important in case some professor in panel has read the book that you have written and he decides to discuss it with you during the interview. Do not pick up any book now which is tough to comprehend as it can take up a lot of your precious time.
