hey KOOL...thanx for d thread...first of all

1)which 'specialization' is INDORE known for...as in...marketing,finance??

2)if u were to rate INDORE as compared to d oder IIMS...wat rank wud u give it...nt just in terms of placements...but an overall view...taking into consideration watever u think is relevant...am nt sure wat all is..

3)hw has ur experience been at INDORE...was it good, better or wurse than wat u expected from an IIM??

Disclaimer- d queries mite sound a bit childish...but i just wantd to know...feel free to correct any misconceptions i may have

thanx again
shashank

Well my first query : How diverse are GD topics or are they restricted to only a few areas? I read some mind blowing GD topics on some other threads ....hence the qn .

Also how do IIMs space out their interviews ...? What was the 'Minimum' Break between successive interviews last yr ?

Does IIM I ask for reference letters as in IIM B ???

How much weigtage is given to work ex at IIMI?

Hi Kool,

Thanks for the thread. I have got a call from IIMI. Congo to all the other Puys who have got the call.

I have a few queries.

What all does the I form include? Does it include a SOP like question like what B has?? Do we have to get reco letters like B??

And does I have any mentorship like what B and C have???

Hiiii..

I too got my first call "I"

Congrats to everyone with "I"..My questions list says:

1) How many guys r called for GD/PI in IIM-I? Indirectly, what will be the conversion ratio?
2) GD topics- R they usually Business related or any general topic?
3) Weightage to Work Ex- I heard IIM-I usually prefers pple with work ex.
4) Any specific prep for interview, as in, IIM-C asks Maths ques in its interview..

Thanks..

Hi siddhesh and shashank , first of all congrats to both of you!!

Siddhesh IIM Indore has history of giving cases during GD, due to simple fact that pedagogy here is intensively based on case studies, case given for GD will basically test your team dynamics, leadership skills, analytical skills, out of the box thinking and overall positive contribution in the group

also case will in some way or other will test your awareness and understanding of some concepts, last year my group had case based on bird flu as that was pervelant that time, so keep yourself aware of the happenings around you.

last year we had one of best interviews taken by IIM Indore among all the B-schools, each candidate was given ample amount of time to get judged, My interview lasted for around half an hour and questions were acad based and of general awareness.

So brush up your acads also.

Shashank, IIM Indore has very good faculty for both marketing and finance courses, also we have companies for all the specialization for placements. so it entirely depends on students what they want to opt for, at this stage i advice you to keep your options open even if you have inclination to a particular specialization.

2) this forum although never allows comparison but i can only say that IIM I is one of the best in the country and so give your best shot.

3) my experience - humm.... i can only say that i don't have any regret of joining IIMI, thr would always be ups and downs in any place you go, but this is most happening place i have ever been part of, and all of us are thoroughly enjoying our stay here, as far as expectations from IIM is considered, i don't think i felt let down ever for a single moment

just give watever you can to clear the second round...all the best 😃

While i was posting the answers for 1st two queries...we have more queries here

Last year we were not asked for reference letter, and i believe that this is generally the case..

IIM-I don't ask for SOP but the form will be one of the most exhaustive one, their would be questions on your achievements, your strength, weaknesses and situations which have influenced you, also questions like why MBA would also be their, forms carry quite a good weightage in final selection, so fill it very carefully.

Interview questions might or might not be related with your form, there were cases when entire interview was based on what you had written in form, and in my case they didn't even mentioned it just make sure that you don't make blunder while filling the form.

Weightage for work ex or any other factor depends upon the batch profile an institute is looking for, i got to know(from pg only 😃 ) that this year while issuing calls candidates with good amount of work ex are prefered...while our batch mostly consists of freshers or people around one year of work ex. our senior batch is work-ex heavy batch...so it depends on profile they wanted in batch

Regarding the number of people called for gd/pi... i still haven't checked the notice board...will update you people very soon about it... 😃

I have and I call and I want to make the most of it.
Here is my profile.

Experience will never turn out to be a disadvantage. Dont worry about that.

Since you have a good amount of work-ex, your interview would be expected to be majorly on your experience but they can also ask about acads and extra-currics.
I hvae 18 months work-ex and wasnt asked a bit about my work-ex. My intvw was mostly on acads and some extra-currics, with a little general knowledge in the end.

They are not there to rate you on how much you remember of your 4 years in engg. or general knowledge. They look the way you respond and maintain your cool in the intvw.

In my intvw, they started asking me on a weird elective I took in my 3rd semester of engg. and started asking in depth. I didnt know a bit of it and told so.

Stay calm. You ll be asked mainly about your profile only. And its not only for IIM-Indore but all other instis. All the best, crack the interviews.

Moi got an I call...

Yeah the forms will come along with the Call letters and will have to be submitted alongwith other documents only on the day of the GD /PI

No we dont have a formal internship program in place but at PG many of us are always there.
Plus you can also ask any of ur friends to come to PG and post their queries we will try and answer

This makes it B, I & L.

All the best to everyone with a call from Indore

Kool and Pranav are already doing a good job in answering the queries..but in case any of you have any specific queries you are welcome to post here and we'll answer as best as we can.

About the Work ex bit..traditionally Indore has a habit of going for a work ex heavy batch..Atleast I can confirm it for our batch (of 2007) as well as most of our senior batches but as kool has already pointed out batch of 2008 was heavily tilted towards freshers.

Traditional GD has always been a Case Study analysis....For interviews it's been a mix of acads and work ex in the case of people with work exp. Go through the previous years GD/PI threads to get a better feel of the entire process :)

Cheers,

Wayne
