Have u heard anything like only acads int. In Bombay i was asked about my 12th std acads for whole 25 min. And when i was telling them ki i was involved in so many extracurricular activities, he was ignorant to that point. When i told them about y MBA from NIRMA then also they were admant about my Physics electronics gyan. And above all the person seating in the middle was laughing continuously. They asked me to graw the atomic model of Nitrogen and SPDF orbital valencies. I coudlnt remember the damm thing in the int. bye see ya IIMI.

Had my 'ek lauta' IIM-I interview yesterday at Vashi, New Bombay at 2 pm.
My profile: BCom , MCom, CA ;26 months workex ;97.33 %ile in CAT
Candidates:23 candidates. 3 did not turn up.
The rest 20 (17 techies,1 Comm grad, 1 journalist and 1 CA (yours truly)) were divided in 3 groups of 7,7 & 6. I was in the 3rd.
6 of us were taken to a room for GD.
Panel:3 people on the panel. One baldie , another middle aged guy and one 30-something chap
GD: Was about Muthu the employee in a Bank where a robbery has taken place and he first hands over the money and then chases the robbers and gets shot in the leg but saves the money. The latter being against the bank policy , the Chief manager wants to penalize him. The PR director is concerned about the Media reaction and the HR director about the Trade Union's reaction to his suspension. Muthu's father also lost his life in a similar incident. Muthu has a family to take care of. The Chief Manager wants ton use this incident to press for his promotion.
What should the Chief Manager do??
It was decent. Had done the same before so was not a worry. Made 5-6 entries.

Quo Vadis SaysThat's exactly what I wondered too... Justifying "y one wants to go 4 a mgmt career" is quite a different ball game than the usual "why mba" question.... Though i still aint totally sure, I'm planning to stress on why a "management career" and add in a postscript about the need for an mba... Typical mba fence-sitter style.... When u aint sure, go for the median :huh:

My background- BSc(electronics) 63% , CAT- 97.75% Di- 99.22, Va- 93, Qnt- 88. Studying MBAin NIRMA
Hobbies- Photograhy and Trekking, lots of social actiites, and worked with NGOs.
Gd- The case was old one with CEO giving favour to the son of the CFO of sister company.
Our gd was cool with everyone comming with diff points, i started the gd with summering the case. I braught the gd on the right track two times. thats it.

had barely any time to fill up the long form! filled it out in half sleep.. and it showed in the form.
GD was a case study, about a guy called pitamber who starts a company past india, manufacturing plastic bags, thru a govt scheme encouraging unemployed youth to become entrepreneurs. he convinces village youth to sell their property and settle near the factory, where they work for him. he does well initially with a partner. later his partner moves out, starts out on his own..this guy's business profits and sales begin to fall. govt. comes out with new standards for plastic bags. also he cannot cut staff coz they will turn militant. banks will give loan only on a collateral.
i thought it was a good case, and our group came up with a lot of points.. although the other groups were a little grumpy that there were very few practical solutions to the problem.
Interview was in a word, horrible. grilled me on my weak point ( general awareness) and weaker points ( semester 1 physics)

P2: so, you are working for XXX.tell us about some company which started out as a single business and then diversified.
M : state the name of my co.

I didn't know they repeated the case studies. I had mine on Feb 21 and it was exactly the same case. Even my interview went on similar lines

and yeahh to all those who think they had a screwed up interview.. guys i had a horrible CAt perecentile in a certain section .. and the interview was jus abt average > i forgot to fill in my graduation marks.. they asked me vageu questions... but at the end of the day i converted da call
IIM-I has a different perspective .. dunno what it is . but generally we never take the oft taken path... for sure:) so u can be sure of some surprizes:)

they are testin you on more than jus ur answers.. believe me had it jus been acads last year and given the same panel .. a lot of us wud n't have bin here!
another thing it wud be better if u write ur background.. becomes kinda difficult otherwse..
wud also like to say that they are lookin at a particular batch profile.. as usual enggineers at an undue advantage :x .. neva mind.. they want some CA's .. some female participants.. some eco people.. some normal grads.. some top of the line amazin BBS like me . so on and so forth..
so ur inclusion or exclusion is more than jus bein a function of ur capabilities or the lack of them :D

Interviews generally go in Bangalore (IIMB), Delhi, Calcutta and Mumbai. I suspect interviews in some of these centres are already over.

Bkgrnd: 20 mths work ex in IT + btech iit + " indore" as permanent address
GD: Ex army man given some administrative resposibility of a college. I had seen it earlier on PG. Late start but came in 4-5 times. Average performance.
PI: lasted for only 20 mins. was the 5th one to be called. b4 me every1 had a PI of 35-40 mins. It was already 5pm when my pi began. So i think they rushed thru.
3 Panelists. Pretty cool panel.
some gen fart abt indore and mp. and tourist places.told them as i had been to most of the places.
q-what is indore famous for?
a- iim ( all started laughing)
q-whats ur fav subject in engg?
a- process calculation.
q-lots of ques on it
a- answered them givin examples
q-ne other subject u liked?
a- heat transfer

a- mass transfer

a- (now all were same as didnt even remembered the names) reaction engg, polymer science were also interesting.

a- no sir, but i have seen chemical plant during my summer training in HLL.

q- asked me captain of india waterpolo team and best swimmer from india.
a- i dont know. as none of them have significant achievement.
q- what are dimensions of waterpolo goal.
a- i dont know exact measurements but it shoud be around 3ft by 6ft.
q- whats the pole to pole length of pool in waterpolo.
a - 35 mtrs
q- who is world champion in waterpolo
a- greece
q- and in asia?
a - japan
q- who wins in national games?
a- kerala
q - so u have done courses in sociological perspective and accounting too....hmmm
a- yes sir. sociology course was very general and accounting was acc for manegerial accounting.
q- what are the components of financial statement of a company?
a- profit and loss a/c...
q- what ? r u sure
a- not very sure.
q- any thing else..?
a- hmmm...balance sheet...
q- what..r u sure?
a - not very sure as i did this course 3 yrs ago.
all three look at each other and decide to let me go.

gd was quite sad. it happened to be i think the only topic that hasnt appeared before... went as follows
buttercup and buttercup ltd (!!) is a milk cooperative (long description along the same lines as amul)
they have 2 new heads(ceo and another guy) ceo is come in from some place in europe
things going smoothly till one day health authorities say that worms/larvae have been found in the food products. they are rather sure that this claim is false.
but the authorities also blame them for printing the wrong date on the packages (which is found to be true).
ceo has to address media immediately.
what should he do?
one guy in our group was very good. the others were all sada... infact i was feeling very sleepy coz hadnt really slept well the night before so i was rather bored by the proceedings. (strange considering its my only call)
and there were so many pg's there and almost all of them remembered me as the unfortunate person with a B.Sc. in stats. got lots of sympathy there
for the pi they call the people in random order. but seemed like the best performers in each group were being called first (maybe a coincidence)..
my pi was pretty decent. lots of acads but surprisingly i could handle it ok. questions on gk, hobbies etc were ok... didnt know some stuff. the last thing they asked me (asian country giving incentives for people to have children) i very confidently said singapore (could've killed myself - its japan)
but all in all it was ok.. nothing great. like i said, i didnt really have time to be nervous (thankfully was fully awake by then) and that was a good thing coz i could be completely natural.. so that made it a good, fun experience 😃 though i really doubt if ill convert.

sorry... but...this BBL case was held for our batch on Feb 23rd..i'm shocked that IIM-Indore repeated a case which was held a whole month back...
but then..i'm also sooo very sorry fer not havin posted my IIM-I GD/PI experience at all...sorry yaar.... this clearly goes to show that IIM-I junta do not know the power of PG...and also dat i'm to blame for not using ze power of PG...
damn...jus imagine if i'd posted the entire details!!! a whole friggin month to contemplate on answers... sorry... Payne
