hi, think of wat u r interested in man !!! if u r uinterested in technical then go for ISRO as only a few ppl get the chance of getting into ISRO.. if u join infy, u will definitely get the money but u will be one among 38000 employees in infy of which 70 % are SEs think abt it !! all the best...

First, congrats on joining the Infy club.
Regarding your preparation for Infy, check out the thread you've just posted on. This has been answered hundreds of times by people of your background themself. Regarding passport, if you've already applied, take your reciept while joining.
From what I've heard, food at DC is bad, as the caterers change very often. Regarding "on the bench", I do not know much as I'm also due to join Infy, but I'm sure you will get the answers if you browse through this thread.

Infosys will take care of all that they need from you. They will train you in the technology that they require. So, you need not be a gem in programming .. but a little familiarity will at least C (programming ) will help and that isn't a big deal. It isn't mandaratory that you should learn DBMS,OS ..... As someone had already said before ... carry that reciept of the passport. BENCH -- I dont; think that u need to worry right now regarding that word. But to explain , first u will be assigned to some department.. if that dept. doesn't have any projects at that moment then u will be kept on bench. That isn't a bad thing, that too at Infosys. It gives you oppurtunity to learn new tech's and get familiarized with the tools and all that. FRUSTATION, DISSATICFACTION, BOTHERATION -- please wipe away these words from ur diction. Try to look at the things on the lighter side.. All that matters is the availability of the project -- not fate, or other matters. Relax.. u r thinking too much in these matters. Do ur training well ....

When I joined I knew literally nothing abt a computer leave alone programming. The purpose of Infy training freshers is to get guys like us upto some level before setting us free to work on real client projects. Of course reading stuff in your free time wont hurt but it aint a necessity.

Infy guys arent very particular abt u having everything in place on Day 1. In case u dont yet have ur passport, u can always produce it later when u get it.
Regarding food at MyDC, it was bad (till 6 months ago), donno whats the scene now, but I can assure that it wont be very bad, just abt ok to survive for 4 months. U do have 3-4 options within the company like fast food, pizzas etc but if you are thinking of homely food forget it.

On the bench is when you arent working for any client as such i.e u are an unbilled resource who doesnt earn any moolah for the company. Its not something you have to fear, in fact being on the bench in Mysore DC is a privilige only a lucky few get. Take a look at the facilities in Mysore DC and you will understand what I am talking abt. Being on the bench for 1-2 months wud be "pleasurable" I wud say but anything more than that will get frustrating especially in the beginning of ur career. It is not something that you can control, so stop thinking abt it and get thru ur training first.

well talking about the words u used ..... they are more related to a Project than the Bench. U will realise that the 3 words materialize once u are in a project and not when u are on bench.... well .. that doesn't mean that Bench period is cool ... but over a long time ... i can say it is "Frustrating" and nothing else. It all depends on how u utilise that period.
U will be overloaded with work and the deadlines make u "Frustrated". U will see that ppl who do less work get better appraisals than u, and that brings in this factor called "Botheration". U will see that bcoz of chamchaagiri u'r pals, even though are less competent than u, get better bandings(@ Infy) which makes u "Dissatisfied".
So, my friend ..... just relax ... Come to Infy only for Learning and nothing else. This place is wonderful only when it comes to learning and the worst when it comes to Appraisals and Salary Increments. My two cents, to whosoever it may concern

The only time I had a decent appraisal in Infy was after I had put in my resig there, reason being, they woudnt need to give me any hike since I would be gone in 2 months and they could say "See if you had stayed we would have taken care of you very well".

Infact ... thatz true mate .... one of the arrows they throw at u, atleast to have a feel good factor for themselves.... If u are well acquainted with the PM u end up getting a good appraisal ... else ... u will get the Default grade ..... pure BS ... and these days the so called 'regional differences' are creeping in, which is the worst of all .....

Or are there any stay arrangements for parents ??(as one of my friends is going to join infy being aaccompanied by his father). What is the "carry-home -money" that a typical infoscion gets after 1 year? What is the package that one gets after 2-3 years?? Can I get some pictures of our hostel rooms (at Mysore DC)?? I've also heard that Infosys takes sudden and frequent tests during the 3.5 months training period.... What dop they asses from those tests??????? Does the test results have any effect on salary???

no arrangements for parent's stay..as far as i know..guess..urfren's father will have to stay in hotel!! well..strting in hand salary will b around 13 k at the max...after one year..chal yar ja ke dekhenge!! (same applicable for 2-3 years..if we stay there!! ) regarding pictures of hostel rooms..join yahoo group.." infosys_freshers"..u will see loadz of pictures!! test nd all..chillax man..nthin much to worry..nd ya TPI i guess depends on test..nd so will salary then!!
Everyone Joining Infy these days are with the idea that they learn for 2 years and use this knowledge elsewhere.... aint bad at all

And yeah .... Performance in training has a clear and a direct impact on the Salary. U get sumthing called Training Performance Index (TPI).:)
To what extent will the sal depend on the TPI?? Will it make a difference of atleast 1K to the sal after training?? In my training batch (when this TPI funda didnt exist) I was consistently one of the worst performers, had only 1 A grade throughout when the rest of the junta was cracking A's in every test and spending sleepless nights whenever they missed out. I always missed A grade by 2-3 marks throughout, whenever someone tried telling me to put in some hard work to get those 1-2 marks that cud propel me to an A grade, my standard answer would be "A grade leke chaatna hai kya?? I wud rather spend my time improving the consistency of my snooker breaks than spend the same in muggofying those darn champaks". Ab mere jaise logon ka kya hoga, now that the sal depends on the CPI??
PS: Ultimately it turned out, Infy guys decided to reward me for my training performances by putting me into a very good project (Oracle Apps ERP Implementation) and asked some of the toppers to warm their a**es on the bench for a good 3-4 months. Whoever said life was fair

To a great extent.... they divide as A, B and C. A gets around 2k ()more, B gets around 1.5k ( )more, and C gets around Rs.700 ( ) more...
Those cham-fu*ks are nothing better than waste papers ... Our batch Slogged a$$es over those damn books with 98% ending up getting B's.... the folks who got A's had prior experience ... No point !!! The Lesson: Undergo training only for learning sake and not for the sake of TPI
I hate to say it but the freshers need to know this...
I dunno why but there is this batch-breaking thing goingon at Infy these days, at least for the last 3-4 batches. In this people are asked to join there training location that is Mysore as if nothings gonna happen but they drop the bombshell on you as soon as you land there. They say there is gonna be a batch breaking and you will be given a posting straight away with no training no chumpaks, nothing at all.. ZILCH... And you are packed off to one of the nine DCs(they do give you a a chance to make known ur choice, but dont count on it). And what do u expect now? That if there was such an urgency and 'Business Requirement' (ull get to hear this crappy phrase a lot) then ull be immediately put into projects and start working night-outs right. NO BUDDIES NO!! People from the July11 batch and some from even before have been posted all over the place and most of them are still warming the benches. And so much that the benches are on fire these days. Some of the lucky ones do have projects but they are few and far in between. So better be prepared for such an eventuality and dont come too starry-eyed.
