Congratulations, I am sure you have worked hard to earn the right to make the above choice. Well done.
I'd go with the consulting role, as it's likely to be closer to the objective more than the intelligence & analysis role. The consulting role will have an impact on implementation and results. It will also have more stakeholder interaction and client impact, thereby widening long term career opportunities post your TPP career. Pharma & Biotech companies are firmly in the policy lens of governments and institutions, and your experience servicing the industry will make a tangible addition to your profile for TPP and after.
I would recommend the consulting role.

Thanks for the buy-in. Really needed your advice on this. The firm operates in the space b/w business and market intelligence providers and management consultancy firms. I hope am doing the right thing here. Regards
Thanks Baccardisprite!! This is the most efficient and precise reply I ever had from someone. I would like to discuss 2 things. 1. MSc in logistic/transportation/infrastructure you discussed in very 1st post, Tu Deft Holland. would that be also irrelevant to do in my case? 2. 5 years is a long time for me, I may loose patience.
Thanks & Regards, Pabla
1. Interesting question. TU Delft is an outstanding mainland European University and amongst the finest technical institutions in the world. Judge relevance by a few things:
- is education offered in line with your goals? - is curriculum broader practically and academically, than what you do now? - do the strat consultants recruit straight out of that program?
One good advantage is that you may be forced 😃 to learn dutch, which is not such a bad thing.
Personally, I think you are in a good place career-wise. TU Delft's program above (and a similar program called M.Sc in Engineering & Policy Analysis) could be a tangible alternative to an MBA, but would still help you most only after you have those 4-5 years in a core job before such education.
2. 4-5 years is what it takes to build your first (& most permanent) bank of skills and applicable experience. It's where & when "you" the professional is shaped. You can go earlier, but you risk limited effectiveness as a professional , which you will take years to gain :-). Why not gain them early? Patience? 4-5 years is a minimum to lower end my friend, you can assume your peers in these programs will have worked longer than 5 years before joining you.
If you have decided to study, work and settle in Australia - then University of Melbourne is an excellent choice. Others - Victoria University (Melbourne), University of New South Wales (Sydney), University of Technology Sydney (Sydney), University of Western Australia (Perth), Queensland University of Technology (Brisbane), Monash University. A good Masters Degree in Finance & Accounting in one of these Universities should open some doors for you in Australia.

Hi,thanks a lot baccardisprite.... I sent u PM..please check and reply....thanks
Hi, First of all i thank bacardisprite for starting such a wonderful thread and congratulate him on his depth of knowledge as well as research he has put in. Also could you tell whether doing about MS in management or a similar course in countries like Canada or Singapore. Is something like a general MBA or MS in management available in these countries? What would be the probable cost of such a course. Thnx in advance.
Hi baccardisprite, I must salute u for the level of knowledge u are having and the way you are sharing the same. Just need a bit of guidance from you
I had done my PGDM from IMDR, Pune and now have more then 3 years of work experience in commercial Banking Space. Out of this 3 years, two years have been in consulting side (Corporate Finance Advisory) and Last one year with an MNC Bank. Got lot of knowledge of Banking per say, in terms of product and working. Want to move ahead in my career and want to shift towards consumer behavior, though I want to do it in FMCG industry but given the experience and Background I know can't go to it directly and hence won't mind to start with Consumer Behavior in Banking or some consultancy
Can you suggest me some course, may be a distance learning (since can't leave the job) that can help me in taking the necessary move in the career
Thanks a ton for that concise reply !!!! It provided much needed insight into courses and preparation. I am yet to see such an indepth and well researched reply.
> more question...your views on INSEAD, HKUST, NUS ( one yr courses & both having less tution fee-35-40 lacks.). Ross-michigan is a 20 months programme.
Will keep you updated about my progress during this journey to MBA
I got an admit to UNIVERSITY OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA(perth) MBA and i am trying for MDIS singapore bradford MBA, can someone help me judge the better part , i am in bit of fix for this one.

Plenty of courses available, quality (therefore cost) varies. Make sure it's in line with your career aspirations. It's actually quite easy to conduct your own research into this.

Mechanimal :D
I advised Ross-Michigan due to its operations focus.
INSEAD is the world's pre-eminent 1 year program. Alumni & graduates all over the world in pretty much any industry and company we can name off the top of our heads. Very strong consulting school, 30-40% of the class (i.e about 400-450 MBAs each year from both campuses & both promotions will go into some form of consulting). If you wish strongly to take your skills into the consulting field, I would strongly recommend INSEAD.
HKUST doesn't have as global a reach as INSEAD. If you speak Chinese, a strong network in East-Asia. NUS is a good school, but the careers office tends to get poor reviews from graduates and alumni (not known to be proactive). Good career offices are not just about placement, but also about training MBAs to conduct an effective search off-campus. Anecdotal evidence suggests neither NUS nor HKUST is known for its strengths in this area. In fact, in less than 10 years since establishing its Singapore campus, INSEAD has comfortably overtaken them both. CEIBS in Shanghai has also overtaken both NUS & HKUST. I would not recommend them for a profile as strong as yours and for the career you target going forward.
If you want to stay within Asia - IIMA PGPX, ISB, INSEAD... All you need to do is to get in, network hard and stay academically in the top quartile of your class, and most importantly apply & use the training that the careers offices in these schools will give you.
Hi baccardisprite, I came across this wonderful forum when googling about MBA. I am from Malaysia, and I am looking for part time/distance learning foreign MBA offered within Malaysia, since I have a family here and do not wish to give up my full time job.
My profile 1) Working experience: I am working in IT software development area for about 12 years, currently in HP, as a project lead/manager role, leading project development team (size 4 - 8 ), sometimes I worked as technical lead as well. I been in banking industry (local bank), logistics industry, software vendor industry (serving DHL as my customer), currently working for in-house global delivery.
2) Academic: Highest qualification Bachelor of Information Technology from University of Southern Queesland 2002 (GPA: 6.25/7.00, Dean commendation awarded) IELTS year 2002: band 7.0 Sun Java Certified Programmer 5.0 year 2005 Scrum certified Product Onwer year 2011
I am looking on my long term path whether to move over to management/business or with technical/architectural base. I thought that with MBA, it may give me more insights to decide where I should moved to.
My current survey on the available MBAs that meet my constraints (to stay in my country & flexible learning time and with good accreditation): 1) Manchester Business School - Global MBA (this is the highest rank from my list, and most expensive, is about 20K pound) 2) University Of Strathclyde- 2nd ranking in my list 3) Bradford Management School (distance learning) 4) University of Leicester (distance learning)
Please share your thoughts given consideration on my constraints & on what I was hoping to look for from MBA course. Some of my friends and superiors advised me to go for certification instead of MBA.
Hello baccardisprite, I am working in an IT company in India for the past two years. I am looking forward to do MS(ComputerSceince/IT) in abroad. I have two questions 1. Could you please suggest me few of the country universities which is comparatively less costly (Around 2500 USD) and with enough international reputation. 2. Also comments/suggestions on how bad the US debt crisis and the world economy slowdown is going to affect during study period with respect to scholarships and post study job opportunities.

Hi I made a mistake in the above question , the cost i am looking for is around 20000 - 25000 USD including the living expense.
I have heard that Sweden or Germany also do not provide free courses for MS now . Is it still available there or in any other country ?
Also pls throw some light on how I can get scholarship or funding for these.

British Universities in my opinion offer the best distance learning MBAs around due to the below reasons:
1. They take it pretty seriously, and deliver a proper academic experience with sessions on campus, exams that you have to prepare for, and very good access to the school & university library & databases online.
2. These are recognized MBAs delivered by Universities accorded the Royal Charter and whose MBA programs are at least AMBA recognized.
3. They have wide access through the British Council or Local Partnerships / Campuses specially in the Commonwealth.
The most well known of the Distance Learning MBAs, in addition to the Manchester MBA Worldwide you have mentioned are:
- Henley Business School Distance Learning MBA (International Stream) - Warwick MBA by Distance Learning - London University External MBA (Finance), CeFiMS - London University External MBA (Imperial College)
I would recommend, Manchester / Henley, then Warwick, then the London External programs in that order.
Would also recommend the full MBA qualification if you have the determination and the resources to study.

Currently I am Based in Mumbai, working with an MNC Bank
If in Mumbai, nothing better than doing a part-time MBA at one of the top Mumbai Institutes - JB, SPJ, NMIMS or similar; with a set of strong electives in marketing, services and strategy.
If not these, then one of the big British Distance Learning MBAs, refer a previous post on this thread (note - elective choices may be limited).

Hi thanks for the reply, but don't you think doing a MBA after an MBA is a rt choice???
Won't it be better to do somthing like MA economics that give much wider option

How would you connect an MA Economics to a Consumer / Marketing focused career in any industry? MA Economics is a wide degree, but what you want to do is rather specialized.
Does your MNC Bank have a strong retail banking arm? Can you move from your current role into a customer facing side of the retail banking operation?
The info you've shared is quite exhaustive..awesome...
Quick overview into my bio:
Qualification - B.E. (E&C;) - M.S. Ramaiah, MBA (Marketing) - PES School of Management (Both in Bangalore) Work Ex - 7 years GMAT - Not taken Role - Currently working in a marketing role in IBM India.
I'm confused and have been for quite some time. Two goals that I want to pursue are - 1) Work in Singapore (not looking at any other location), because I love the place and proximity from India and 2) Want to pursue an international degree abroad.
I completed MBA soon after graduation and therefore did the course without any work exp. Finished MBA, got placed through campus and have been working for the last years.
My dilemma - Whether it makes sense to pursue a one year international MBA from Singapore or any other place, which is also affordable (15 - 20 Lakhs) all over again or whether I should pursue a more specialised degree in Marketing or Consulting.
Since most of your thread was around doing degrees other than the traditional MBA, I thought I should post this note here.
I want to continue with my role in Marketing, but strongly feel that the lack of doing a degree from a reputed B-School is holding me back. This could just be a feeling, but I surely want to look at increasing my earning potential as well. I know that the whole growth story is now in India, but badly aspire to work and make a good career abroad as well. Initially was thinking of SP Jains GMBA programme, but not a lot of great reviews.
Also, do you think doing an executive education programme (1 -2 month) from a school like INSEAD would rather make sense?
Please let me know your thoughts. Others also kindly pour in your suggestions.
