ISB Class of 2014 aspirants.

MBA 2012 Says
Did you mean SGP? Singapore?

Yes, I heard there are few good options in Singapore
I'll ask you not to settle for it........iview de sakta hai, but don't accept any offer.........

One life. One shot. One school. ISB :)

I used to think the same but spoke to few people who got rejected twice from ISB. So I also introspected and thought realistically. Due to family issues i decided not to reapply and took the offer that came. My point: do think about the trade-off between reapplying and probability of making it and taking the offer you have.

Even half a dozen certi will not assure an i/v call..leave aside an admit...but what it will ensure is that ur co. starts believing in u, and offer u some meaningful project abroad...have a long stint abroad...develop client-side relations.....and then apply to ISB , take reco from this abroad client....

so carry on getting all the certifications.... to improve ur job..... just a thot...
(try going thru ISB 2013 profiles of people, even after every possible thing, many didnt make a cut for i/v and many cudnt win an admit)...

so work hard in ur job....thats ur best bet..hope that helped..and yes GMAT to de pehle... ATB

You started working in July 2011 and so for CO2014, you work exp considered would be 1 yr 9 months, less than the ISB preferred 2 yrs work exp.

CO2014 mean the graduating class and not the joining class. Basically for this, one will be joining in 2013 and graduating in 2014, hence the name.

For gmat prep, look in relevant PG GMAT thread for more information.

Personal opinion: You have a lot of time in your hands unless u really really want an mba asap. Sit back n build your profile bit by bit in 1 year and try to apply for CO2015 if you think your profile is good by then.

You want certifications for MBA or for work ???

How will a SCJP certification help for your MBA dreams? Think and you will know the answer.

There are so many ways to build a profile. Think, again, and you will know the answers. You should not do anything cos you want MBA. You should do things cos YOU want to do it.

A fellow CO2013 applicant mentioned "learnt welding" in his profile. It all depends how you project what you want to project.

Here is my profile:
1.GMAT : Still to give
2.12: 63% (UP Board)
4 yrs of GAP between 12 and BTECH. Due to fimally problem not able to join any college. Just 2 yrs of B.SC between.
3.BTECH: 74%
4.EC:Organising event for my project and company level. Innvolves with NGO.
At college level part of organising comitte for Computer and cultural fest.

5.Work Experience: 3.6 yrs in IT infrastructure management. Working as specialist , have some onsite experience.

Should i invest my time and money for ISB or try something else. As you can look my profile is not very encouraging.
Please suggest me what to do. I want to do executive MBA (1 year). But very doubtful whether i will get any call?

Kalim,

It will be your call totally to decide whether you should apply or not. For MBA you do not need an outstanding CV, you just need to show how your past and future lines up with your current ambition of doing an mba. And believe me my friend ISB guys are very good. If you give them a good reason why you took a break between your 12th and graduation. they will listen to you. I would say if financially it does not hugely affects you than you should definitely give it a shot. Otherwise it is your call mate.

Buddy, Believe me no one knows you better than you yourself. I believe you have many things to share and seek expert advice. So do one thing, contact the ISB adcom in April week 2 and get a counselling session arranged for yourself.

Why do you need that counselling session and what should you prepare for that session?

This will take time and effort on your part, the preparation part I mean. Some pages back, a fellow CO2013 applicant (MBA2012) has posted a brilliant debrief on the counselling session. You should definitely read that. That would be you homework. Do that until you approach ISB Adcom in April.

Post that you will have answers to almost all your questions and you can take a decision then
@WhiteWNNoise and @avasthi
I thought that would be something to put under achievements.:|
Anyway this is my profile and I am targeting ISB CO2014.
GMAT: yet to start prep.
10th: 80%
12th: 93.6
UG: 6.9/10
WE: 6 years, Major IT industry. Now a tech-lead.
EC: Nothing really.
I and 2 other friends started a company in 2010. It's a web based software product. It didn't go well and we had very few clients at that time (We still have that company running though). In the same year I got interview call from IIM-L and IIM-I but couldn't convert either of them because the questions asked by both of them where I couldn't defend myself was "you are currently employed to so n so company but you are working for another startup company, isn't this an integrity violation?" I didn't know how to defend myself, I still don't know. What I am really looking to learn in ISB is the internal mechanics of economy, market etc. I just want to understand it in and out and get a good experience with the expert minds.

Starting the company, even though it not doing great, is a great thing because there is immense takeaway from it.

What do you mean by Integrity Violation ??? You mean Working at two different places at the same time thing..... ?

Hmmm..... Does your company specifically say that you cannot be engaged at any other place ? If so, does that mean you cannot work anywhere in non-office hours. Maybe you running you company in non-office hours ;)

Hmmm...... Do you know about LIC insurance agents..... I am sure you must have heard about some colleagues of yours who also do insurance stuff.... I wonder if thats a violation... ;)

If you are playing hide and seek with your IT job and managing your company at that time, then it poses a lot of questions. I am sure no-one would ask you a time-sheet if you say that you handle it outside your normal working hours and your friend does a lil more hard work of managing it when you are busy with your normal job... ;)

Also in the worst case scenario, it would be an integrity violation if your startup company is a "direct" competitor to your presently working company. And by that I mean, the role in your present company is similar to the role in your startup company. Or you are privy to such information in your present company that you might unlawfully use it in your startup company to your benefit. That would be an integrity violation. Because if a call center guy is working for company A during the day on a project in, say, Pharma industry and working for company B as a Game tester during the night, there is absolutely no way in hell that somebody thinks its an integrity violation.

My startup company is no competitor to my current employer! In fact I am working in an IT service sector and my startup company is a product based company where we have developed a web-app product. You could say in probability terms that working at office and working for the startup are two mutually exclusive events!;) If you ask about my role I would say its more or less similar in both the companies. I am playing the technology lead role in both the place (was the architect for my application). Also officially that company is registered in my friends moms name to avoid legal issue.
If I get IV call, I hope I tackle them:)
Planning to give GMAT before Jun, before the pattern changes.
