ISB Class of 2014 aspirants.

Hi Guys,
I had written down my interview experience in the laptop which crashed a few days ago(i was interviewed on 6th Jan in Delhi, Radisson Blu, dwarka). Got it repaired last week.
Am adding the same here......

The interview experience
There were a total of 5 panels. 3 were sitting in the business lounge. Other 2 were sitting in rooms in the fourth and fifth floor. All the candidates were given a piece of paper and asked to write a 50-100 words essay on the word prolong. A lot of other candidates were sitting in the business lounge waiting for their turn. Most of them were allotted to panel 1 as me. In fact, there was an other guy with the interview time as me (5:10 PM). Anyways, i guess the concept of panels was not completely effective as we were called by different panels. I was asked to go to 5th floor. Room number 522.
As I entered, I saw a man and a girl sitting there. Both introduced themselves. Both were from the class of 2011. The gentleman was from the army background and was about 40-45 years old. The lady was quite young. I exactly dont remember, but i guess she was into consulting.
They asked me to introduce myself. This i did for the next 2-3 minutes. The next question was asked by the guy. Why MBA. To which i gave a well rehersed answer about how i am in building services design and would like to expand my profile to include the project management to it. The next salvo came from the lady. Why ISB? Where i made the biggest blunder. I said that i was particularly interested in the punj Lloyd institute of physical infrastructure management which was to open in mohali. To this answer i got a googly from the guy. That this institute will open only in the next year. Then i somehow managed the situation stating that i will anyway take operations as my major and can achieve my goals. Still it was a mess up.
Then the guy gave me a situation that you are leading a team of 5 ppl and there is a design report to be submitted tomorrow. However, one of your subordinates comes to you and says that the design you have done is all wrong. What would you do in such a situation. I started by saying that there is no way that this can happen as the report and calculations are based on the verified formulas. But then he insisted that i assume that it may be wrong. To which i answered that i would check his claim and if true, we shall take the calculations from where they have gone wrong and make the necessary changes.
The next question from the lady was why should we take you in ISB. To which i gave the usual diversity factor talk for the next 2-3 minutes. next question : your 3 strenghts and 3 weaknesses. My answer : strength : perseverance, quick learning skills and multi tasking. Weaknesses : i may get a bit pushy to get my job done, i take more work than i can do and so, sometimes miss the deadline.
Next question from the lady. What is ur plan B. Suppose no construction or EPC company comes to the campus. I said i can go back to L&T; as a project management guy or go into project consultancy.
Then they asked me if i had any questions. I asked them how the majors were allotted to students. To which the guy answered me something about the accruing of points which went over my head. But I kept a straight face and nodded a few times as if I understood.
Then they said thank you and i walked out....

Hahahahaha - great idea mustang. You are indeed a visionary ;)

Must warn you though, 4 years of drinking with the ISB crowd might lead to a situation where you will need a liver along with the admit :D

The end of term parties out there are insane with the booze flowing well into the morning hours!!

Good read on ISB...

Hi All,

Please can any one let me know the prospects for ISB applicants with substantial work experience (10+ years). How does the AdCom consider such applicants? And how are the placement prospects after pursuing the PGP course?

Thanks and regards,

I am on the same boat, given GMAT in Nov and got 680, trying to get 720+...

Hi, thanks for offering your help. I have 1 question. I applied for 2013 class, but got rejected. I got 680 in GMAT and have 6 years of work ex in audit (Big 4). I am CA and CS. I will try my luck again for 2014 class and will apply in R1. Do you suggest me to retake GMAT? Further, do I have to revamp my essays completely for the application or minor change is sufficient? Thanks in advance for your time and suggestion...

I would suggest that you wait for your feedback (you have to ask for one in April). Depending on the feedback, if they hint that you should score more on GMAT, give GMAT again. If they say that you thoughts were a lil bit disconnected or all over the place, revamp the essays completely.

Also if you feel that by giving GMAT again you can improve your score and cross 700, definitely give it. Its always better to be safe than be sorry.

Hi guys. I've never taken GMAT. Can someone suggest good coaching institutes in Mumbai? Also, it may sound too general a question, but can you give some tips how to go about the preparation. I just downloaded the GMATPrep software from the official site with 2 practice tests. I got 570 in my first practice test, 16 wrong in Quant and 17 wrong in Verbal (without any formal preparation for GMAT). I know it's far from what is required but just wondering how's the score for a beginner?

ISB is my dream college. Starting the journey towards my dream.

Do they actually say in the feedback that 'Improve your GMAT' ?

My 0.02$..
GMAT is more of a self study. Books you require are the Official Guide(OG)(Quant is covered pretty well in that). For Verbal, get Manhattan SC. Once you are done with the OG get a Kaplan 800 to tackle the difficult questions.
If you buy a Manhattan book, you get 10 or so tests free. Give those tests.
Scan this forum for posts by WhiteWNoise,anujnigam,MBA2012,soubhg among a lot others for some more tips on GMAT prep.
Hope it helps.. Cheers.

Visionary whose vision is scary
You have just given me two more reasons to try harder for ISB. Party and booze.

And bout the liver, as I said... Wish I had a liver more and heart less.. So that I could drink more and worry less.. Cheers.

If they feel that your GMAT score is on the lower side based on the competitiveness of your application pool and on your previous acad scores, they would let you know.

Feedback lene ke samay, dun be embarrassed to ask anything. Dun keep it inside. Let it out. Who knows, maybe they will provide an answer to your dilemma.

Dipz,

It is quite unlikely that your GMAT score could be the only hurdle. There is a long list of 670+ guys getting admits. Had it been 650 I would have definitely suggested you to retake the exam. I would say, wait for the feedback as White has said. Additionally you can review your essays (and go through your i/v memories if you appeared for one) for the time being and point out what loopholes remained. I will still recommend to stick to the matter that you presented last year and do not deviate too much from the main theme.

Hope this helps.
