Can we get our profile evaluated now by sending a mail to [email protected] ?

I think evaluations and feedback will be done from April onwards after the new batch starts classes.

Spot on!! But then if they say that your extra curricular wasn't upto the mark you should give up.otherwise I dont think you will need much time.career goals should remain almost the same. achievements- you can manipulate a little bit, score- you are already working on it.

so just be yourself and wait for the feedback.good luck

Yeah...I am also looking forward towards the feedback.
But valid question is :
Feedback April --> Next application August/Sept.
What tangible change can I bring in my profile? I am in dire straits after an immense personal loss...I am totally directionless.

For new puys in the thread: I am a reject from this year's application in R2.

I think score front is ok with 750 (QA: 51 , VA : 40).
It will be something else for sure...

Hey Puys,

I'm SV Santosh

New to Pagalguy.com and hoping for some help as i will give GMAT this year. I've completed my B.tech(EEE) in 2008 with 62%. I got into Mphasis An EDS company(Now HP) through Campus Placement Loc:- mumbai.

Left Mphasis after 4 months & was back to HYD.

After a lot of thinking i finally thought to get into HR field. So looked out for opportunities in HR and got a position as US-IT Recruiter(nyt shift) in this small startup company called Makro Technologies.

I've been with makro for almost 2yrs had good exposure of HR then i had this question in mind...How about an MBA Degree??

I thought that was the best time to get MBA, But i know i wont get into a B school for sure. So, i've made a short term goal i.e, get into some big company in the same HR field, Work for 2 more years and then go for MBA.

So, i've applied for few companies and most of them were looking for MBA candidates, And i've got into this big company.........Which has around 800+ professtionals only in HR.

Thats my longlasting & proudly felt story..........I'm in Deloitte ryt now, have solid 4yrs of experience in HR looking for help as i'm starting to prepare for GMAT.......Please feel free to give any sought of advice on GMAT!!!!

Thanks,
SV

Santosh, please refer back to the thread from starting. You will get immense information on the material that you can use for GMAT prep. Since this is an ISB thread, we generally do not discuss GMAT prep. You can join GMAT thread on PG for that.

As far as your MBA is concerned, feel free to post your queries and suggestions here. I am sure we all can benefit from advise given here....

My suggestion would be to get your essays looked at by as many people as you can and get their views. Do not take everything as the 'gospel'. It will only give you some insights to think about. If you feel that their insights hold water, then start looking at bettering that area.

Also, there is only another month to go, considering the classes start on 15th April and feedback will be sought right after that. Since your score is not an issue (awesome score by the way.... ) please do look if you need to have more ECs on ur profile or maybe a certification that you can do which can show strengthen your work profile.

all the best puys....

One more question, when someone is shortlisted for PI that means he has a decent profile. After the PI will there be any weightage given to the profile or is it just the performance in PI that matter to be part of final shortlist?

@IamSarvjna

Getting a call for PI shows that you have a strong profile. But even then all applicants who get the call are not at par. The final evaluation takes into account the whole application including interviews.

Puys who have their GMAT done, start on your application. The essays will not change much, so start jolting down points and research. An applicant should ideally give 1-2 months of time just on application (exceptions aside).

Hi All,
I am posting below another (reject) essay analysis for ISB. I have already covered some of the common mistakes in my previous analyses, so I will not focus on each essay individually; instead I will mention the critical mistakes this applicant made.
Another point to note is that our feedback is only for the essays, which are just one part of the application. There are other factors like recommendations, academics, test scores or career progression which can also be game-changers. This is our attempt to help you get the essay bit right.
Read on:
Applicant Profile:
Application for :ISB
GMAT: 690
Work experience : 4.5 years in automobile industry
Function: Supply chain management.
This applicant had based his first achievement story on over-coming some professional weaknesses. Now, this according to me is a tough nut to crack. You have to be very judicious about how much of your weakness you want to reveal to the adcom, so that it does not start to create a negative impact.
On the other hand, it should also show your maturity and commitment in dealing with a problem area and coming out on top. For most people, this balance is hard to achieve, and they start to falter by an extended moping of their weakness.
My suggestion is to attempt using the overcoming a weakness theme for showcasing achievements only if you have a great example to tell. Secondly, keep the tone of your message positive.
For example, the applicant writes, I could not perform (audits) initially, as this profile highlighted my weaknesses, such as embarrassment in pointing out other peoples mistakes.
You can avoid the this and write instead, I was excited because this project would give me an opportunity to work upon one of my struggle areas, giving difficult feedback objectively .
The other big gap I found in this applicants essays was a lack of strategy in selecting essay stories. The result was somewhat repetitive information occurring across essays. With just 900 words to fit in your lifes stories, this pitfall can definitely be avoided.
Beat this error by drawing outlines before you begin to write your essays so that you are not churning out similar information at different places.

If anyone else is interested in figuring out possibilities that could have led to a reject, please do send us your profile details as well as set of essays for one b-school (in word format please), and we will get back to you with our feedback.
Namita at MBA Decoder

Hi,
I am planning to apply to ISB for 2014. I have the following profile
GMAT: 710
10th: 88%
12th : 77%
Mech Engg : 77%
Total Exp : 7 yrs, IT telecom
International Exposure: None, if you dont count working for a foreign client for 2 yrs

ALthough I played games at college level, did some editing for our college magazine and have won few painting/cooking competitions, I am not sure all this counts as extra curricular when it comes to MBA applications. Could you please tell me, what kind of extra currcular activites do they look for in a candidate.

Hi guys,

I was rejected after an interview. If I need a feedback, should I write to them. Whats the avenue to get the feedback

Thanks,
Saai

Saai,

The admissions committee tries and gives feedback to everyone. However ever due to logistical constraints they may not be able to answer everyone due to the sheer volumes of applications.

Nevertheless you can mail the adcom directly requesting for feedback. I would also urge you to check the website for any new guidelines the ISB adcom may have posted in regards to feedback before mailing them.

Hope this helps.

Best,

Roshan

Neha,

There is no - one activity that the ISB admissions committee is looking for. While volunteering at an NGO happens to be the norm, the more diverse the activity you are involved in the better you will be able to differentiate yourself. The need for an extra curricular activity, at the end of the day, is to showcase that you can lead not just at work but outside as well.

It could be cooking, archery, hiking, poetry.....the list is numerous and really up to you. Introspect on the activities you have been involved in till date. Think about what they mean to you, what you have learned and what impact you have created doing those activities.

No point mentioning that you volunteered at an NGO and did nothing more than just volunteer. While there is technically nothing wrong with that, the competitive BSchool admissions process, unfortunately, mandates that you do something exceptional.

Hope this helps.

Best,

Roshan

a) You will not be asked to write 2 essays in the new format (as one of the essays is getting replaced).

b) The new section Integrated reasoning is not adaptive in nature (thus it will not become tougher as you do well on it). Hence a set of some very average maths questions will be thrown at you, involving Data Interpretation.

c) The new section will serve as a warm up to the Math Section that follows Integrated Reasoning.

I totally agree, also the DI question doesn't involve any complex calculations like CAT and they also provide calculator on the screen for those questions.

Soubhg,

While it is a must to work on the feedback given by ISB it is all the more important to work harder towards your goals. One of the key things i found out during my application process was that ISB doesn't really worry so much about your weaknesses. They test the depth of knowledge and the passion you have towards your goals. So my recommendation would to be continue work hard towards your goals/target industry/role or whatever it is that you consider your strengths. Do not fall into the trap of diversity factor. I see that a lot of folks do a number of unrelated things just to play the diversity card. Ultimately its your passion that will get you that coveted seat at ISB.

Cheers,
Rajath

Thanks.
