hi puys, applied to ISB for the first time and got a reject, still coming to terms with it,not so easy when you get a reject with a 700+ class size and 740 on GMAT
If you did not get through with a 740.. don't know what I have to get in the GMAT to get in..
The feedback process will start in April as said by Mr. VK Menon in the ISB thread.
A first attempt CA, CWA and CMA .. 8 yrs of exp in Investment banking, M&A; and PE. worked on multi billion dollar deals... currently in a leadership role with a PE firm in Middle easr ..Loads of extra-curriculars.. worked in 24 countries ( 4 yrs Intl exp) .. GMAT 610.

All the best for your other Interviews.
Got a REJECT from ISB (first time applied) with GMAT score of 750 (QA 51 , VA 40). After GMAT I called up a friend who was ISB alumni. She told that "consider that you are in if you dont goof up the i/c". And in fact i/v was kool..far from goof up. Still got a REJECT. I am at my wit's end man!
Speculating on the decision I think: 1.R1 would have been a better chance. 2.For male applicants , competition is stiffer.

I personally think a 700+ plus is all u need if you have an IT profile more or less similar to mine. i have read at many places that adcoms world wide dont see a great distinction between a 700 and 740 or say even 760 its all about achievements @work,@play ,its about who you really are,a great GMAT score tells only so much about you. In conclusion i wud say a good GMAT score is a great confidence booster and a i/v call getter at good b-schools,there ends its role

Dude.. 750 and that too balanced scores in QA and VA.. Thats surely not the reason for reject. Looking forward: 1. You have the ISB feedback in April. 2. You have R1 2014 to apply. With the feedback, I think you can surely ace it. Its true that we(IIMs) can get sidelined for the diversity thing..but with a GMAT score like yours, thre has to be other reasons.

hope you are right dude.. 700+ should be good enough.. the fact that Interviewers do not have your GMAT or acads infront of them means that GMAT score is 'primarily' to get you an IV call. Thats my take..
Working in HPCL as Retail Engineer , Work exp-2.6 yrs( as of mar 2012 ) GMAT-620/4 Btech-8.1 CGPA XII-83 X-81.3 NTS Scholar, Karate Black Belt, Started Learning Guitar....
u shud ask this qn. to VK Menon (there is a thread whr he actively answers queries),- "Do u read the previous attempts' essays while assessing a candidate??"
Its a very valid and pressing point that u hav raised
and Whitenoise, just wanted to correct u, essays do change everyyear, though its always about "YOU"
bhai words ka moh maya hai, baaki sab to same emotions hai.... π
I think interviewers were also baffled with so many things just right...:wow: I would be interested to know what feedback do you get from the adcom..
me too part of the rejected list.. And I was really surprised at Biswarup and Soubhg not getting admits..
My profile: 11+ yrs in computer networking with two leaders good acads (10th - 87%, 12th - 90%, BE (NITT, CSE) - 72% GMAT 770(Q-50, V-44)/5 Avg ECs no community involvement
My interview didn't go well.. But I thought that my profile can still help me get in.. I was so wrong..
I am a core techie, work on Linux kernel and networking software.. I had earlier been a project leader with some managerial roles, but moved on to pure tech.. All of a sudden, last year August, I decided to give it a try (friends and wife have been telling me all along though) as I thought I can take care of the logistics now and don't have any immediate liabilities.. But I realized that ISB is the only place where I can apply for a 2012 admit.. Though my quick GMAT went well, I was surely underprepared for the application.. And then I was so under prepared for the interview (no mock, no practice, just impromptu).. They exposed my lack of research about the profile that I want to have post ISB and how ISB can help me achieve that..
So on the hindsight, I think I should have thought out about MBA better before I applied in ISB (should have known that it won't be a cake walk).. Can't help but think that my seniority was also a hinderance, especially when I don't do managerial activities now..
I would also try in few IIMs (A especially) this year.. Hope ISB application experience has made me wiser and also the feedback in April would be useful..
All the best to fellow puys.. Let's rock again this year.. π

Bro, to be honest with u I was surprised and shocked when I read last evening that u didn't get through. Having met you personally you are a wonderful and very jovial guy. :) My Girl friend also enquired about your result as we were certain that with 770 you are almost in. π You not making to ISB is a bigger loss to ISB than your loss.
ATVB to u for your future applications. Stay in touch with all of us.

In the case of re-applicants, the committee evaluates the application in the light of his previous views, ideologies and long term vision. They want to know what values you have added and how much you have improved from your last attempt. Although the way of asking questions changes but in a broader sense we will take it the same this year too. So considering that, it is safe to assume that you may change your achievements but this will be disastrous to change your long term vision. It will be difficult for you to explain how your ambitions changed altogether in such a short span of time(unless you rephrase your answer).
