ISB Class of 2014 aspirants.

dude, what exactly do you do....because what I stated above is basically market research..
I run a startup mate and being a startup the role played by each one of us in the company will be a bit more diverse. I take care of every non-technical aspect of the company.

I come up with new ideas, evaluate them, pitch them to mentors, investors and fellow entrepreneurs. Get feedback and then re-iterate. So I basically keep track of the plusses and minuses of an idea we work on.

And for any new idea the first phase is market research. My ideology is quite simple, "most product startups are formed to solve a problem faced by the founders in real life!" and I feel its true.

So whenever I find a problem in my life I start thinking about it a lot, I will come up with the craziest of the ideas and then start the standard process. How feasible is each idea to implement? How will the adaptability of that new technology be? What is the cost involved in developing? When can we break even? How do I push it to my customers? etc..

Once we have a solid product/prototype/concept in place I reach out to my customers and evaluate them from customer's point of view coz in the end they are my money makers!

So this is my activity right now mate.. In short I cover almost all non-technical aspects of my startup. I try to get most details from the contacts I make and try to get free help most of the times :D
@ammo44 Like the fake IPL player? This would be fun then! :)

Looking into rankings FT ranskings are based strictly on 3 criterion

1. Diversity at the School - Faculty and Students (25%)
2. Career Progression - (55%)
3. Faculty Research and Publication - (20%)

Since ISB is a fairly new college, it will be hindered in the career progression as even the first graduates from the school would have been working for 10 years.
Comparing ISB and IIM-A on these criterion -
Diversity - ISB has better diversity and
Research - IIM-A is next to 0, whereas ISB has the most papers published in India
Career - but IIM-A would have much better career progression - which results in a higher rank in FT.

ISB vs other top foreign schools
- Diversity - Not much diversity compared to top foreign schools. 98% Indians (incl PIO/OCI)
- Career Progression - Again hindered because its a new school
- Research - ISB, even though the bext in India is not up there compared to World Standards.

If ISB was to be given a while - another 10-20 years; its career progression and research stats should increase. Hopefully, ISB increases its diversity - At least 25% non-Indians (excl PIO/OCI). Then ISB should start ranking higher on a consistent basis.

But, what I cannot analyse is why was ISB's and IIM's ranking so high earlier and has now fallen?

@ammo44 Are you always so high

hey guys

I have an interview scheduled for the 31st of Jan.... Request for some tips/assistance. I have been through the last part of the thread and gained quite a bit of info but any additional info would be wonderful... Profile is 3 years work ex in Banking, 680 GMAT, average marks in graduation and school, mortal fear of interviews, morbid apprehension of being judged, chronic sufferer of foot-in-mouth disease, occupational hazard of eternal optimism.... Please help
@krsrevol You have a way with words my friend πŸ˜ƒ I am sure you have already browsed through all the material available and are well prepared. However given your less than average work ex, I would suggest that you prepare an air tight response to 'why MBA and why now' ( I don't know which profile you are targeting post MBA, perhaps you can elaborate) . They will most likely grill you on this point. They may try to tell you it is too early for you to do an MBA, etc

Also, be thorough with your application, prepare responses/description to all achievements/stories in SAR format ( situation-challenge, action, result ). And dress sharp πŸ˜ƒ

All the best !

Congrats and all the best for your interview. Where are you located? Where is your interview?

Please don't get stressed. You have been shortlisted for the interview, which means that ISB is impressed by you and wants to know more about you. They are convinced with your essays and reccos. Now you just need to prove that you are as good/better in person, as/than you appear on paper.

Your GMAT and acads don't matter for the interview (you have crossed that hurdle, for now), because the panel does not have your scores. What matters is your belief in yourself, your achievements, your goals and that you can make an excellent contribution to ISB class. You should know about your current and target industries. If you are make a shift, then what is required and how does ISB come in that picture.

The time is very less to make any drastic changes. Be thorough with your ENTIRE application, then go thru these 2 files:

http://fi.ge.pgstatic.net/attachments/29379_4869b637f1994e94ad0141147f1bba28.pdf

http://fi.ge.pgstatic.net/attachments/30129_20d11ffea8254434879fd6c707135688.pdf

The first file contains contains all the questions categorized under headings. You will see how they can ask you the same question in different ways. The 2nd guide contains detailed debriefs. I would advise you not to read thru the entire guide because you don't have enough time. Prepare responses to the standard questions. Work on your presentation as well as the content.

This is very important. You need to convince the panel that you are ready for the MBA and it fits your career plan. They will cross-question you to authenticate what you have written in your application. You need to support everything with examples. You will not get enough time to respond and might be interrupted in 60-90 sec, so prepare short, crisp responses.

You might want to get at least 1-2 mock interviews done to get some feedback on your responses. Work on it as much as you can but don't burn yourself out before the actual interview.

The panel is very cordial. They will do their best to calm you down before they begin with real questions. It is a conversation, which you should enjoy. They are there to learn about you. It's your chance to showcase yourself. So, have fun while doing it. You can take some time to think before you answer. Think about the entire response. How you will begin and how you will end. Lead the interview with your answers. What they ask you depends entirely on your response, so don't dig a hole for yourself. What you have written and what you say should be consistent.

All the Best

Nope mate, I am trying to calm people down over here but the fact is that I myself lost all hope of getting shortlisted for an interview. Luckily I could get back to my work with no loss of concentration ;)

I guess I should keep my farewell speech ready now πŸ˜ƒ Time to exit from this thread is approaching fast

@Mandar86 Does this mean that candidates who applied giving Hyd as i/v location only or candidates from other regions will be called to Hyd as well? Any insights?
