ISB Class of 2014 aspirants.

@RN83

All the best for your interview.

My profile:700 gmat 49 quant and 36 verbal.
Undergrad: 65% in Civil Engineering
12th IB: 30 points
10th CBSE: 85%
Experience 2.5 years in Family Business
Age is 24 because I saved one year during my engineering

Still waiting for interview call. I am not taking a salary from my family business and I have instead of submitting salary slip/IT return have submitted an affidavit of sorts :D.. it would be most dreadful if my reason for rejection is that. Hopefully my misery will end soon with or without call πŸ˜ƒ
@KshitijBaldua good luck to you guys as well ! we may just meet each other there as i have read that the panels run late almost all the time!

@engineer.22

Did you get an email saying that your application has been found complete, check your login on ISB PGP app portal. If it says application found to be complete, then this will never be the reason for rejection.

Bro If your family business is of construction, I would sincerely advice you to work for another 2 years.
Work till you are deeply involved in estimation, costing of projects, payment recoveries etc etc etc. Then MBA shall do wonders to your learning.
And 1 - 2 yrs spent in best of the universities then shall help you grow your business multifold.

Just a suggestion though.

Cheers,
@RN83 go with makemytrip. I have booked a room there for 1500 bucks...

You are partially correct. I was reading the methodology used by FT to rank colleges. While you are correct they consider the salary after 3 years, that is not the only parameterThey consider the salary students get right after graduation, standardize that across industry sectors, countries, and currencies. They also take into consideration the purchasing power parity. So all these ( and maybe a few more) factors make one of the criterias that is Weighted Salary.Another factor they use is Salary Increase. And this is where they consider the salaries after 3 years of graduation and take an average and so on.With that said, 2013 rankings took into consideration the student who graduated in 2009, so as to take account of 3 year salaries. My feeling is- 2009 was pretty much peak of recession in the West. India and eastern countries were the less affected. Hence, US colleges should have dropped ranks and eastern colleges should have gained. That seems to be true for all Singapore Hong Kong colleges. But not for ISB. So I am not sure what has led the ISB ranking to fall so considerably.
As you correctly pointed out ,FT rankings calculates weighted salary on PPP basis rather than currency exchange which is generally used.In fact, this factor alone counts for 40% of the overall ranking points.Hence,A-PAC B-schools enjoys high ranking on FT rankings overall.Another very important factor is the international diversity. ISB scores very low on this and with batch size increasing last year,this factor has further diminished and resulted in ranking drop.Other A-PAC B-schools like CEIBS and HKUST score brownie points here.I have always believed rankings are just perspectives of different publishers and should be seen with right spirit. One should always use it as a tool, considering different factors used, to form their own perspective and should not get swayed by this.

Fellow puys,

I do not understand this discussion about the FT Rankings and ISB. The fact remains that inspite of the ranking, all of us here would give an arm and limb to be in ISB. And if you look at it from a pan-India perspective, ISB is still among the best in Indian B Schools.

The FT Rankings makes sense to me when I have to compare a US school (outside of top 15) with another in terms of position.

I think this is the last weekend for HYD(Mum) calls....

Fingers & body crossed!!!

@Kode_A Yeah bro I have been working in the different departments of the family business which you guessed is into construction. Although many times I am unsure about MBA I feel I can learn a lot considering how much I've been interacting with the partners and how I've been learning. But tbh I have never worked in the purchasing department or recovery department. Mostly into marketing and sales apart from a lot of odd jobs.

@ammo44 I took advice from the ISB counsellor only.. who suggested a declaration (not an affidavit per se) would be enough.
@tripamb Yes my application has been found complete.. So you don't think that I could be dinged for that reason.. that's a relief.. I would've really beaten myself up if that was a reason.
