As per previous debriefs, this question is asked if you have not given any of your previous/current supervisors as recos. I can think of only 2 reasons why they asked this:
1. You served the longest in your 2nd job or had some significant achievements that you have written in your essays. They would have like somebody to corroborate that. OR they might be suspicious about what you did and the circumstances under which you left the organisation.
2. Chronologically 2nd and 3rd jobs are your latest jobs. So a recco from something closer would give them a better idea of your personality NOW. I mean it is possible that those 2 reccos did not give a consistent picture of you as a person, and there is some gap.
This is just what I think. Maybe others can pitch in their thought about this.
Thanks for clarifying. I think it was more of 1, as in I mentioned achievements during my stay at 2. But then again I gave them a clarification as to why I didn't take it from somebody at 2. Frankly I didn't give it so much of a thought. I just thought one from 3 should suffice. The other one can be from 1 or 2. Whoever is easier to get in touch and contact.

As long as they are satisfied with your clarification, you don't need to worry about it. ATB

I told them why I did what I did, which just trying to get one from 1 or 2, whichever was easier. I was anyway getting one from 3. Frankly, I don't have high hopes. Let see.how was your I/V btw? whats ur profile like?
Yeah. You never know what they look for. For me they seemed more concerned about what I would once I pass from ISB as Fin placements aren't great. Why ISB was a major part of my discussion.
That's right. I got both BM + HRM calls. But I am not keen on them since I have +7 years experience already and I don't think 2 year courses are made for me. I will definitely take the interviews very seriously, but I don't have a strong feeling imagining myself in a two year course with all 2-3 year experienced kids
Bro I (sincerely ) x 100000 request you to do your research again.
XL's BM or HR is as good as IIM A/B/C's 2 yr PGP.
I hope you know what u shall be giving up.
I assume ur GMAT is 740+, was told that was cut off for BM.
If I had a choice, I would ve had preferred BM over GMP
My interview was very strange. They only asked about my job and thats it. No why isb? why mba? questions. One lady asked me how I felt about the campus. The whole thing lasted for 20 minutes. Donno what to make of it. Sure thing it is a ding.

Hey - I have got the BM/HR/GMP calls via XAT as I got a 98%+. I know XL BM/HR courses are as good as IIMs' PGPs but have heard that there have not been many (I was told by a senior in another thread that there was only one guy in their senior batch of around 9 yrs exp and that's it) with experience as much as mine in XL BM/HR. I was also told that there is a work ex cap of the placements post-MBA for some companies. That put me off really. I was very interested till then, at least to convert and keep as an option...
One more thing - I did not know you can apply to BM via GMAT... My GMAT score is 710. My ISB i/v was done on 27 Jan.
Though we are coming to the end of the interview sessions, thought this would be helpful for those who are going for interview in next couple of days and those who go over this thread next year - I owe this much for all the help I got from PG family.
So finally done with my Skype Interview - with no video (there was some technical glitch) - How I wish I could see the interviewers to get slightest idea on their thinking process. Anyways - It was a two person Panel. Mr. Kannan and Mr.Vikram (Adcom) - I gathered this information towards the end of the call because the start wasn't smooth with technical issues.
Coming to interview experience, I wouldn't say it was grilling as they were asking about my profile, something I should know the best but I was tensed and I can confidently say, they sensed that too - so my answers were not even close to what I had prepared. The entire interview lasted for about 25 minutes.
Here are the questions. 1. You are currently into IT Finance, so do you deal with Journal enteries? 2. What are the challenges you face in your current role? 3. You are six sigma greenbelt - explain the project that helped you get this 4. What were the savings? Only resources? Did they get rid of those resources? 5. Explain another project where you used six sigma knowledge - Clearly they considered the original project was too little for savings. Didn't answer this well :( 6. Explain the project you are working on now - cost saving achieved. A lot of cross questioning here which was interesting - but I didn't take it that way when I was in the interview. 7. How did you manage the retrofit of the solution for the areas where it was working originally? Kind of change management question 8. Explain the situation where you demonstrated Situational leadership skills. 9. Why MBA for you now? 10. India or US? 11. Which industry are you targetting - again not a great answer here too as i said i want to join ISB with open mind and analyze before jumping into any conclusions and close out on other oppportunities. 12. Any questions for them - Had 2 both related to student's club. They said good luck and that was it.
As everyone says, know what you wrote in you application and be ready to give examples. Practice Practice Practice else you would stammer like I did. Right now I am in the state where I want to edit what I did 6 hours ago and have to keep reminding myself to get over this.
@dream1 Trust me you are better off now seing their facial expressions. I had my skype interview with Mr. Kannan + 1 Adcom on skype and Mr. Kannan seemed disintersted the whole time and I was getting more nervous for the same reason.
@King_Julian U cannot apply to BM via GMAT unless you are an NRI. BUt, I am surprised, with your experience, why you did not apply for the one year GMP?
Had my interview through Skype... lasted for 20 min... 3 member panel.. 2 alumni and Mr Vikram. 1. Tell us about yourself, what you do and How you are different 2. How you are better than somebody who has same number years of experience but no international exposure. 3.How your German skills helped you in your professional career. 4.Why MBA ? 5. With Obama administration coming there will be lot of pressure in IT sector. Why do you want to continue in IT? 6. Why a career move, what the driving factor, what are the expectations? 7.What all places you have visited in Europe? 8.Any questions for us?
Retrospectively, I think I could do a lot better specially with question 2 and 3. But that's always a case. Good luck to everyone and fingers crossed for Friday !
