Hai basu,

thank you , career shift is not on my mind and i will look for options in mid and senior level management. It is good to know about CAS probably we may get better guidance from tham regarding further career choices.

regards

mks

Hi Srinivas,
With a 10 years you would be a member of our Senior Executive club @ ISB. There are separate initiatives by Career Advancement Services dept (CAS) in highlighting the SEC members as they join the mid/senior level management cadre.

You can possible work for Consulting space in Energy or plan to opt for the industry. Regular consulting companies (Mckinsey, Booze, ATK, BCG) recruit for such roles. Among the industry roles in Strategic Planning, Senior Management have been historically offered.

Change in career is also possible - provided you take initiatives in learning / ELP / building a strong case for career switch but you might have to do certain trade offs.

Warm Regards,
Basu.

Hi Mr. Basu,

The information was indeed very valuable and implementable.
Will definitely help us in putting up our thoughts in the application.

Still, I have following queries:
1. U asked to submit the application on 15th August. As I will be writing my GMAT on 24th July; I want to know is there any benefit in submitting the application 1 month early. As in my case, then, I will get only 2 weeks for drafting my essays and everything.
Can u please tell that our referrers have to write about us after our complete application is submitted?

2. Can u please elaborate a little more on Video Resume? Will a normal clip taken with Mobile camera suffice or we need to get the help of a cameraman?

Regards,
Ravs

Hey Ravs,
There is no added advantage of applying early. Take time and frame your essays properly and submit before the Deadline.

And your referres ... they can send it any time after you have added them on the ISB app portal...

There video specifications on the portal....Please refer to them

Hi Ravs,

Yes there is no advantage of applying early as pointed correctly by navisangha. I said Aug 15 - just to have a 1 month buffer in case of any eventualities. Please put in time and effort behind essays - they are very imp.

Warm Regards,
Basu.

fantastic stuff, basu πŸ˜ƒ

While composing my essay, can I state incidents from personal life? Given that I had less than a previleged childhood and student life, can I mention these in my application? or is it strictly about professional accomplishments?

Hi Elbarto,
Yes you can mention these. Infact I did mention in my additional essay a personal tragedy and how I faced it. But context should be taken care of.

Warm Regards,
Basu.

I will be writing GMAT in next 15 days without preparation(had prepared for CAT)
Kindly suggest a minimum score I must target so that I have a fair chance to apply to ISB?

Hi Guys..

Great Insights across the medium which should help us in our quest for ISB 2014.

My concern is on the GMAT front. I had given it once with a score of 550.
My quant is good but verbal was a disaster.
Pretty much understood the reasons for this low score last time and they mainly pertained to lack of practice in Verbal

Plan to give it by 1st week of September , so basically have close to 70 days with me.

Would really appreciate if u guys could suggest the material that one needs to read for GMAT. Have been doing the OG latest edition and nothing else

Need to get my GMAT right this time , at the same time dont want to indulge in umpteen GMAT materials...need to get the right fit!!

Hi puys,

Can somebody suggest me some good agencies in the Delhi NCR region which can help me with the application process. I am confident of writing the essays, however I think it would be useful if somebody can review / critique them. Also, some 'expert' advise from an experienced professional would be useful.

I am planning to apply for the Asian colleges (HKUST, NUS, ISB etc.).

Thanks in advance.

Hi sugosh,
I wrote GMAT long time back - yes Manhattan did help me.Few things that helped me :

1. After you finish 2 rounds of the OG - switch from books to pc. You will see speed will reduce drastically - practice at this speed as this will be your close to real one on the D-Day. I never touched the book for the last 40 days.

2. Practice in numbers of real blocks - eg verbal always take blocks of 41 and practice and 37 for quants (if they are the same now). No doing 15 problems checking answer and doing again. This will help build endurance.

3. Download 1000 SC, 1000 RC , 1000 CR and 1000 quants and practice on pc.

4. keep a note of mistakes made in SC - they tend to ask the similar type of errors again and again eg among vs between, try and vs try to, such as vs like etc. Keep a note of all possible errors encountered.

5. while actually solving - eliminate inside your mind - convince yourself in finding why an options is wrong and zero in upon the correct one - rather than jumping on the correct one. ie be hell bent on telling why NO amd not why YES - this was helpful in verbal.

These are few things that helped me - please check if they suit you.

Warm Regards,
Basu.

Thanks for the reply, Mr basu.

Kaplan is good πŸ˜ƒ

Hi!
I have a question. While writing the essay "differentiate yourself, using professional/personal achievements" I feel 300 words is a little less if I want to write both one professional and one personal achievement.

Is it ok, if I describe one achievement only and describe it well?

thanks in advance πŸ˜ƒ
